These two were the peak. A perfect one-two to wrap up one generation and start the next one.
>>11495714Tekken 2 should be a honorable mention for making 3D fighters mainstream.
Tekken 4 has always been my favourite
for me its tekken 5
>>11495818A flawed step into an interesting direction. I wish Namco ironed out its problems for the sequel instead of playing it safe.>>11495824A start of modern Tekken and 20 years of stagnation. Great game in vacuum. Gameplay wise is a bit better than T3 and TTT but lacks their cool personality and presentation.
>>11495714nobody cares about soulless TTT except for sweatsnormal people enjoyed TK3
>>11495818thats when it jumped the shark
>>11497105I bet you were born in 1997
>>11495818Based, a rare individual of outstanding taste.>>11495842>playing it safeIn what way did T4 play it safe?It bucked trends by pairing back the then already ridiculous and bloated cast and rewrote the Tekken gameplay formula. It was a daring game that dimwits can't seem to grasp.
All Tekkens up to and including Dark Resurrection are soul as fuck if you are a casual, I don't know about what FGC autists think about all this though
>>11495842>A start of modern Tekken and 20 years of stagnation.Don't worry VF6 has been announced I'm sure Tekken 9 will have plenty to copy from it.
>wrap up the generationTekken 3 was 97/98. The 5th gen was rocking for another two years at least
>>11497286>In what way did T4 play it safe?I said sequel which implies T5. Didn't read the rest because it's irrelevant
>>11497105Actually TTT has a ton of soul it's just a different, grittier vibe from T3 and a more experimental soundtrack. I will always love T3 more but TTT is a perfect remix, like DR is for T5.
I have way more nostalgia for Tekken Tag because it brought back my main man thus played it much more. T3 I dabbled with, but I hated Jin so much for being a lame ass, so I spent a lot more time with shit like Marvel and Rival Schools at that time.
>>11497592Dude, I've seen your Jin-hating ass numerous times here but I never once saw an explanation how anyone could find Jin lame during T3 era. He was Kazuya 2.0 and objectively better that T1-T2 Kazuya and had an electric. It is just as ridiculous as hating on T3 King because he is not the same guy as T2 King.It was T4 where Jin was made into lame karate emo dude in a hoodie.
>>11497643Jin might have been good gameplay wise but character wise I hated him. Whole reason I loved Kazuya was cause how cool it was for a fighting game to have a legit anti-hero type as the focal character, compared to the milquetoest Ryus and Akiras. Then they introduce Jin, a softie mama's boy victim who they gave some fire pants to to make him seem as edgy as Kaz but never was.I don't hate Tekken 3 as a game, and if you like Jin more power to you, but I hate Jin for being ever the more cliche of a main character. That's why in Tekken 3 I played Jin begrudgingly but became more a fan of Bryan.
>>11497651I was burned by Jin replacing Kazuya, but I got over it when he was playable in later games. The only thing I don't like about Kazuya these days is that Bamco won't do a separate Devil Kazuya like Devil Jin. At least his devil spirit is toast now so he will most likely stay in human form (unless he manages to absorb Reina's devil spirit).
>>11497651Okay you might've been invested into the lore or idk. For me and my friends around that time both were just cool karate dudes with sick moves. The only difference was that one was a high schooler and the other was some kind of CEO. For actual bad guy character people chose Bryan indeed.
>>11497667>>11497673That's another thing. Kazuya is a straight Devilman parody and is pure edge on top of it, Jins devil form is "le dark angel, hes a dark soul so misunderstood he has beauuuuutiful bird wings not le evil bat wings" I spit upon it
>>11497681Okay, never cared for this kind of thing. For me the lack of Armor King was the biggest T3 flaw but King II had some of his moves and p2 costume was partially inspired by him. Jin was just a straight up upgrade over T2 Kazuya looks and moveset wise.
>>11497115no trhats 5
>>11497910Nta but T4 having issues and being unpopular was one of the reasons they made T5 the way it was.
all my favorite characters are in tag 1.
>>11497681Talk like a sensible adult.
>>11498182Adults don't play Tekken, they pay bills and have many kids they're busy feeding.
>>11497681>That's another thing. Kazuya is a straight Devilman parody and is pure edge on top of itAll culture is derivative.
>>11495818that's the tekken I grew up ontekken 4, virtua fighter 4: evo, and dead or alive 3 and 2 ultimate
TTT1 is fucking creepy it's like a PS1 game wearing a PS2 skinsuit there's all these weirdo schizo voices in the songs you've got basically no spoken dialogue outside of the announcer and all the victory cutscenes feel like they were made in a single afternoon.
>>11497651Who is the most honest Tekken character?
>>11499684Baek Doo San, my nigga.
>>11497651>how cool it was for a fighting game to have a legit anti-hero type as the focal character, compared to the milquetoest Ryus and AkirasI like getting insight into retro gaming like this
>>11499685I don't know much about Tekken and this is the first time I've ever heard of him, but looking at his gameplay he does not look honest
why was hwoarang so damn smug? he was my favorite back in the day, his kicks were so fun. also his cheeky relationship with jin was cool in 4 even if you fags don't like my le walls
>>11497918the "issues" were literally competetive fags not being able to deal with walls and some characters being genuinely broken but the single player was just as soulful as the other games
>>11497286play a few matches against a good Steve Fox and you'll know why a lot of people hate it. I loved it when it came out though because i only played single player
>>11499697yeah bryan's laugh is awesome but king is GOAT in 3. I don't remember his story arc though
