I'm on a RE binge, is this worth playing? Heard it's very easy to run out of ammo and boss rooms don't have any ammo drops. I'll be playing the X version on the PS2 emulator.

The only RE game worth playing is RE4.
>>
>>11498741
Skip this one. Old RE games are people who pretend to be cultured as some sort of TruGamers but in fact they are unplayable jank hiding behind a big name.

The RE Engine REmakes are amazing however.

Thank me later
>>
>>11498741
Yes. I don't particularly care for RE but Code Veronica is among the last traditional fixed camera RE games and therefore you should not skip it. What's the point of binging if you don't sample everything?

capcom is too cowardly to remake this one despite benefiting the most and will move onto RE5 instead
>>
>>11498741
Play it, but don't feel you have to finish it.
>>
>>11498741
>Heard it's very easy to run out of ammo and boss rooms don't have any ammo drops.
In my first play I had to restart the whole game because first tyrant boss was unbeateable I didn't have ammo. Just play it on easy and take care of your ammo.
>>
>>11498741
It's not bad, another tank control resident evil game with wacky villains which was the style at the time. The fixed angles make it hard to see that there are enemies in front of you per usual and the end boss battle isa bit annoying.
>>
>>11498741
It's a huge step backwards in design.
It's as if they took everything that worked in Resident Evil 1 and erased it then acted as if they didn't learn anything from RE2 & 3.

It's awful. Only contrarians will tell you it's any good
>>
>>11498850
>Just play it on easy
Nah, I don't want to feel like a little bitch for playing a survival horror game on easy, give me some actual tips. Should I prioritize dodging? Just do the usual "shoot once to stagger, then run past"?

>>11498996
Huh? I thought it was comparable to the 2002 REmake gameplay wise?
>>
>>11499018
run past or knife as many of the early enemies you can until you beat the tyrant in the plane so you don't end up like >>11498850
>>11498996
RE3 was developed before and by a different team than CV, I think CV was contracted out as well. anyways its worse than the previous games and has worse mechanics than 3 despite being on better hardware but you should still play it at least once

It's worth playing if you're an RE fan. I played and beat it for the first time a couple years ago and enjoyed it. It's very dark and you should avoid wasting ammo, like anon says >>11498850
the bosses are very hard and you need to bring a lot of ammo.

I'll give you a genuine tip, at some point you're going to put a fire extinguisher in this metal storage box. This particular box is not connected to any other storage boxes, make sure you go back and grab the fire extinguisher out of this box when you end up in this area a second time. If you don't you can't get the Magnum waaaay later in the game.
>>
>>11498741
Every fixed camera RE is worth playing, but this is by far the worst one, I mean legitimately terrible. Still strongly recommended because it has such a unique and timely feeling and it's one of the only games that dares to match RE1's cheesiness, arguably even surpasses it.
>Heard it's very easy to run out of ammo and boss rooms don't have any ammo drops
Doesn't matter because the knife is the best weapon anyways.
>PS2
The Gamecube version has better resolution and lighting, and Dolphin performs way better than PCSX2. The PS2 version only has higher-res FMV.
>>
>>11498741
Its worth playing once, just dont expect the same tone of the original trilogy nor the improved mechanics of Nemesis.

Its best to appreciate it as a quirky Dreamcast spinoff that has its own charm. If you enjoy base RE experience (exploring maps, hunting items and keys and figuring your way around), it's possibly the biggest classic RE game in temrs of scope and length.
>>
>>11500249
>Dreamcast spinoff
its not a spinoff, its not numbered but is pretty much a main entry.
>>
>>11500509
its story is never mentioned again and it didn't even get a remake
>>
I've been playing RE since release and consider myself an avid fan of the series.

I have never played Code Veronica, and I never finished Zero. Capcom ignores them anyway except for little references.
>>
>>11500509
It was supposed to be a main entry but the reception to it made them try to reinvent the series first by going back to its roots (REmake) and then making it something new entirely (RE4).

imo the story is an embarrassing attempt to make a movie-like presentation MGS1 and later MGS2 put it to total shame.

>what is RE5 and the continuation of Chris and Super Wesker as seen in code veronica.
>>
>>11500520
Not true, it’s mentioned in RE5. It is a mainline entry and a direct sequel to RE2. Not a spinoff.

Yeah it's awesome. Ignore the fags.
>>
>>11498741
Yeah you should play it at least once. It's not as tightly designed as the mainline games but it has a cool 3D engine and nice graphics. The story is kind of whatever and it feels like it's never going to end by the start of disc 2 but it's worth at least a playthrough.
>>
>>11498752
>Old RE games are people
No, they're games, stupid.
>>
>>11500645
>it’s mentioned in RE5
in some little library entry or in the actual story?
>>
>>11500697
NTA but I think it's in some of Tricell's documents/computer logs. Their whole shtick is they collect and catalogue viruses, so they mention the Veronica virus as well. And it's also revealed that it's a strain of the progenitor virus (from those red flowers shown in 5).
>>
>>11498741
Just know that it's low effort outsourced trash and adjust your expectations accordingly.

Just save to different slots so that you don't run into a softlock without ammo. Although the game is completely beatable with a knife only
>>
>>11498752
all games older than 5 years are unplayable jank
>>
>>11501780
you are on the wrong board.
>>
>>11498741
It's worth playing if you like classic style RE games. If you just keep multiple rolling saves you don't need to worry about the soft lock everyone complains about which is more just a noob trap for people unfamiliar with the series.

It's also the only classic RE where the knife is good & fun to use, a single slash to the legs will often knock a zombie on the ground & you can just go to town on them after that. There's a lot of questionable design choices in the second half of the game, but the first half is great.

I think its one of the weaker entries in the series, but a decent number of people really like it so its worth a playthrough.
>>
>>11498741
>Heard it's very easy to run out of ammo
When I played it for the first time, I had plenty of ammo just like any other RE. Its probably only an issue if you're not used to running past stuff at all.
>>
>>11498741
>is this worth playing?
If you like classic RE then yes.
>>
I tried a playthrough once. Sped through it very easily and then ran out of ammo at a critical moment, which made it hard to go further. Not a hard game at all, much easier than one and two imo, yet more of a pain to beat because you're fucked the second you run out of ammo.
>>
>>11504027
2 is the easiest classic RE Game
>>
>>11504047
id even go as far as saying its the easiest of the main entry.
>>
>>11498741
It's fine. I did similar where I played all the RE games in a marathon and though this one was pretty low on the final list, it wasn't THAT bad.
>>
>>11498741
is the 360 version of this on series x good?
>>
>>11498747
third world take
>>
>>11504293
Don't play the HD versions (PS3/360), the assets are the same quality, but they basically put a cheap Reshade filter over everything (much darker, higher contrast), it looks pretty awful. Here's a comparison:

i got x in a humble bundle for ps4. i tried playing it but gave up pretty early. it definitely has not aged well gameplay-wise
>>
>>11504425
But there's Claire, Wesker and some naked mutant girl, it's gotta be worth it?
>>
>>11504408
damn dude. i kinda like the ps3 one. the darker atmosphere seems cool
>>
>>11504429
im just giving you my personal experience. its worth trying at least once. it is canon afterall
>>
>>11498747
Only gays (with a boner for Leon) play RE4. Real RE fans play the classic RE games.
>>
>>11504449
^truth!
>>
>>11504449
But Leon is in re2
>>
>>11504669
I don't see any of the gays bragging about how great RE2 is. Only RE4.
>>
don't waste bullets on zombies, knife them in the legs, this is the only classic RE in which the knife is useful

and yeah the game is great, contrarian faggots in this board hate it for some reason but don't trust them
>>
>>11504682
Ok...
>>
>>11504293
They are OKish. I played the ps2 version on pcsx2 in a 2010 PC in 2011.
>>
>>11504449
What if you played it on release?
>>
>>11504381
Hey, before the RE 'renaissance' that made every normalfag, thirdie or not, play exclusively REmakes, RE7 and RE8, classic RE had been WAY more popular than RE4 here. At least the original PS1 trilogy were like meme games here, as in everyone played and loved them, like OoT and SM64 in America. RE4 was more like Code Veronica and RE0 in terms of popularity. To top that off, like 70% of people who did play RE4 had that shitty Sourcenext port of it for PC, I was one of those. Ranting because bored
>>
>>11498741
It's one of the best RE entries imo. It was meant to be a mainline numbered entry but due to contractual obligations it was spun off in favour of RE3 for Sony. Why that is important is that it's not merely a spin off, it has a lot of content, is a direct sequel to part 2 and is canon.

It also has great looking zombies, a super long campaign and really is just peak fixed camera angle survival horror.
>>
>>11505105
Depends. Have you posted memes involving the RE4 version of Leon?
>>
>>11498741
>Heard it's very easy to run out of ammo
The game gives you a ton of ammo early on, it's health items you'll be lacking most of the time.
