I just beat pic related and I think it's the only Saturn game I ever finished. Been wanting to play this for 20 years. There's a few tedious sloggy parts in Disc 2-3 like any JRPG but I thought it was great and would say it lives up to the hype.

It was good, played exactly like Wonder Boy In Monster World. The translation was absolutely retarded though, even by Working Designs "standards". Probably in the top 5 best games on Sega CD, but is that really saying much?

Terminator 2: Judgement Day (Game Boy).

It was decent. It only gives you 1 life, no continues... but it's a 15 minute run, so it can be forgiven, it reminds me of the Virgin titles based on the 1st film for SEGA consoles. I loved the 1st level, the highlight of the run for me, and it isn't even on the film I think... you infiltrate Skynet to reprogram the T-800 and then make it go back in time, after this you get a puzzle to reprogram him that I found annoying at first, but grew to appreciate, then you get a level on the motorcycle, nothing special, but decent, then a level where you find the remains of the T-800 from the 1st film, and at last the fight with the T-1000, these final levels are alright, but not as fun to play as the 1st. I recommend fans of the film, and/or of short titles that can be beaten quick, to check this one out.

Sonic 3D Blast's still the best title on the Saturn though, let's be fair.

Beat Splatterhouse 2 the other day.
Now trying to beat Alisia Dragoon.

Rondo of Blood
I've spent most of this winter sick, so I've not played a lot.

Kind of jank, but by the time I was done with it I had grown quite fond of it actually. Might do another playthrough on expert mode.

wolfenstein 3d on the jaguar. the graphics were fantastic and the game played really well with the jag controller. good performance too even on enemy-heavy levels. I think this is the best version of the game because it removes the bloat. is that an unpopular opinion?

I beat this. Its on a CD, voice acted, has cute cutscenes, and combat screens look good for 1989. Thats all I have positive to say about it.

I remember this one from childhood so I thought I would give it a shot. Started off hating everything about it but couldn't put it down. By the end I was able to get through each level on my final playthrough without dying.

I started it a few days ago as well. Love the early 3D cinematics and low poly.

I've been trying arcade games, played through King of Dragons today. Very simple beat'em up with a lot of levels and beautiful graphics. Would replay.

Shit looks absolutely mindblowing for a 1989 game (picrel animates too).

Im surprised this game got translated considering how many random NPCs there are that want to talk to you. I think there might be over 1000.

I've been on a Mana binge, playing through Legend of Mana now. I'll probably take a break at the end of the week when a specific game that isn't retro is being released.

Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai: Another Road
Pretty fun and took a good turnaround for the usual DBZ plotline, but the gameplay was just too repetitive lol
>Get into new chapter
>Fight clones of Z Fighters or old villains
>Defend cities before they are destroyed
>Rinse and repeat

Now I went ahead to the NES title, also published by LJN and developed by Bits Studios, and managed to finish it, though it took a lot longer. It was way harder thanks to the 2nd level and the 5th level, since they love instant deaths and it's easy to go and lose all of your lives in the blink of an eye, even the continue found in the 2nd level doesn't help that much, though it's the reason I even managed to beat it, on my last life, on my last continue. The last level is just a pain, too much steel that takes all your HP in seconds, too much instant death and, when your punishment for missing these jumps you have to do at the edge of a platform isn't losing a life, it's falling and having to do a bunch of stuff over again, which in a few ways it's even worse. Still, it's not a bad title and I like it just as much, if not more than the Game Boy one, both are good in different way, bad in others, it's still cool we had a couple of completely different titles. I'm thinking of playing the SNES/Genesis title next, though I hear a lot of awful things about it, so I might just try out Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines on GBA next.

It was probably WARIO WORLD a month or so ago. Currently working on harry potter chamber of secrets for xbox. I think I'll try Jade Empire next but we'll see. I want to make a cool mod for the game while I play it but I need to adapt a tool for it, so that might delay me.
>>
>>11508507
In my experience with the MM games, you gotta save scum till everything sorta "clicks". For me that was around MM4 or 5 when I just started to get the reaction times and platforming down, then I could go back to older entries and just breeze through them.
>>
this but it was a speedrun, I skipped 2/3rds of it
I haven't played the full game casually in quite a while

Twilight Princess. Breddy gud was looking for an easy game to sink into and usually don't play Zelda.

Also beat Viewtiful Joe 2 recently but that game can be hard as fuck on the harder difficulties.

R Racing Evolution was also cool but on Hard can also be pretty challenging.

Just beat this as I'm working my way through the series but took a little break to gather most of the retro games I want as now the big companies are really trying to do away with /vr/. (Still can't believe one of the big publishers outright admitted the reason they wanna do away with old vidya is because people are opting to play those instead of the worthless propaganda pieces they are producing now)

>game gets a lot better when you realize it's all about typing and backing out of dungeons if you survive a battle you're poorly optimized for
>story is still solid but there are only a couple characters that are really interesting
>still maintaining that melancholy fantasy atmosphere and ost
>less annoying enemy types than infection

Still, I'd be hard pressed to recommend this game series to anyone at this point.
>>
>>11510494
that's kind of what I expected. I'll probably come back to 1 and whatever other early games I save scum after I play enough of them and "git gud"
>>
>>11510567
Yeah, don't feel bad at all with MM titles. I savescummed like crazy (almost every stage in the level) but eventually it did click. You'll just sort of get how levels unfold, the distancing in the platforming works, and the reaction times to deal with the enemies that spawn in. MM1 is the most unbalanced of the lot though, but when you go back to it it'll be the most fun to break. Once you hit 3 and on its a lot more fine tuned so you'll probably find yourself using savestates a lot less.

I'm confused, old video games being free is why modern games are so desperate with f2p shit. Of course gamers want games for free, but then we'll never get good new games.
It's also kind of why simpsons went bad. Why make good new stuff when your fanbase would rather watch the old shit over and over again?
>>
>>11508507
>not sure if it really counts
I'd say that you did beat it, but with an asterisk, I wouldn't go as far as to say you didn't beat it at all, you beat it with external tools, with makes it less legit, but you still experienced the video game and played all of the levels, so you did get something out of it, even if not the full experience.
>>
>>11510617
>Why make good new stuff when your fanbase would rather watch the old shit over and over again?

That's what they were arguing, but they were completely self aware as to why they wanted to go after retro gaming sites. Can't remember which publisher said it, but they outright made the case that they are doing so badly because people have access to retro games and opt to play those over what they are releasing now... and they aren't wrong, but they also aren't looking to make better games, just take away access to better game so people have to settle for slop.
>>
>>11500484
The last game I beat was Metaph-wait not retro, the last retro game I beat was Rockman & Forte on Wonderswan.
>>
>>11510514
I just finished my replay of Infection over Christmas vacation. I need to start up Mutation soon. I never finished Outbreak in my first playthrough so I am hoping to at least get that far. I really enjoy the series and think people are a little to harsh on it these days. I still think the og story is better than GU.
>>
>>11510705
I'll have to hold my opinion on how it stacks up to GU for now as that series isn't fresh enough in my head, I think the biggest gripes I have for IMOQ so far are:
>a lot of the side characters aren't interesting and don't have much to them
>the dungeon loop is very, VERY repetitive
>the grind to get cores and certain tradable items can be mind numbing (best to periodically data drain and break breakables throughout the game or your going to be hurting later)
>the grind to get character affections up to get their emails and what not

Still, it's a game that really does have a unique and beautiful art direction, atmosphere, and ost. Plus, it's oddly satisfying when you and another member of the party has a type advantage attack and you get a big Elemental weakness on an enemy by spamming the two spells or attacks... so highs and lows. I think most people would get burnt out on it though and the only reason I'm completing it is because I thought of some of the things I'd regret not doing if I were to die and this series came up.
>>
>>11510723
Fair points. The character affection system is kinda terrible in it, in that you can kill an email chain without it being obvious. My cope for some of the lack luster side characters is that since it is an MMO not every one will be super involved with the plot or be very interesting as a person.

The style is really what has endeared the game series to me all the years. It is unfortunate that IMOQ will probably never be touched again but it may not be a totally bad thing these days.

>My cope for some of the lack luster side characters is that since it is an MMO not every one will be super involved with the plot or be very interesting as a person.

Yup, thats exactly how I deal with it too.

>It is unfortunate that IMOQ will probably never be touched again but it may not be a totally bad thing these days.

Double yup, at this point the good things are best left in the past and forgotten. Just imagine if //sign got popular again and the kind of audience that would bring in due to Tsukasa. Nah, I'm glad .hack had it's time, it was good, and now it's left in the past for people like us to enjoy with all it's jankey glory.
>>
>>11510659
Nice dude, I finished that recently too. Much better than I was expecting.

Last retro game I finished was Snatcher on Sega CD over the Christmas break. Before that was probably Mega Man and Bass for Wonderswan or Mega Man EXE WS. I can't remember which I finished last.
>>
>>11510494
Idk why you think that way. I played all Mega Man games without save states and was able to complete them just fine. I would have to continue once per level maybe. By my second go through the level, I would have learned the layout, the boss pattern (well enough to win, anyway), and would be able to make it to the boss with a spare life or two.

Some levels might take more continues than others, like Dust Man's level in MMIV GB

SNES version of Captain Commando. It's okay I guess...
