does anyone have inspo for retro gaming setups that dont look like an autistic redditors rgb lightstrip funko pop goon cave?
You don't need to go big.
>>11501541>stretched aspect ratioevery fucking time
>>11501581trending in the right direction but ideally something that looks a bit less unemployed
>>11501581What's your rig for laptop out to CRT? That looks like a USB cable.
>>11501541plug your toy into the tv and get off the internet
>>11501541imagine how fucked that guy's pineal gland is
>>11502045Its an old laptop from the 2000s that has a built in S-video jack.
>>11501541Basically just match a 1980s living room as hard as you can. Go for elegance over pure consumerism.
>>11501541I like these minimalist shmup setups. It would be cool to have like a small desk with a mini pc and all the wires hidden, so all you see is your conrols, a screen and a chair.
>>11502258This, just skim through old Ikea catalogues for inspiration
>>11502779Also a small table built out of 80/20 black aluminum would be awesome. Its one of those things that I want to make, but probably wouldn't play enough to justify it.
>>11501541Just get a regular TV stand that holds multiple components.
>>11501541>posters are cheap>cube shelves are cheap\freemaking your own will turn out the besti dont have time\space\tools for such things though>autismo leddithide all games, cords, psu, controllers, etc UNDER THE BED rubbermaid tubs with air-tight lidsuse lighting that is nice (lamps, hanging lamps)>funko poopsnothing i can do about thati keep coomlection items closeted >>11502779i like the idea of it but i kinda wanted to build a small glass cocktail cab doubles as a little bar table when not in use
>>11501541How can these assholes even enjoy what they're watching/playing with all that LED vomit constantly in your face? Nice glare too.
While it is true that the RGB lights on the console nooks looks kinda gay, having lights on top of your consoles is not a bad idea. I'd use a warmer amber-ish light instead of making it look like an 80's miami coke den.If you're going full retro with no HDMI you'll probably want a Scart switcher reachable next to the TV. My setup is vertical on the left of the TV but they're CD based consoles on their side. If you use top-loader cartridge consoles keep in mind you'll need space above them to comfortable put in and take out carts, plus the nook to the side where to rest the controller. You might also want to make like Sakurai and have an opaque cabinet door to hide the consoles when not in use. Good for dust, great for judgemental cunts.
>>11501541The key to good gaming decoration is to not make the gaming consoles the center focus. They shouldn't be on display in big cubby holes. You are not running a museum. They should be hidden behind doors and only opened when needed. OR minimized as much as possible. Make something else stand out more than the consoles. Like the TV or speakers. Like this:>>11504205 And NOT these:>>11501541>>11504320Why you ask? Because even if YOU like the design of plastic consoles, most people do not. Many think it's plastic clutter that stands out. It's why gaming consoles have struggled for decades to look modern and fit in (and usually failing).Lastly, do not get ultra tall shelves that almost reach the ceiling and out them next to your TV. Tall shelves make the room feel smaller and suffocating. Like you are in a jail cell or stuffy library. Medium sized shelves only. The shelves should not be taller than you.And for goodness sake, get some freaking plants or flowers! Even one plant helps. Greenery and trees helps tremendously to make people feel better. There are actually scientific studies on this that prove it.
Let me guess - you need more?
I like this one
>>11504419I think the real key is to go half and half: do show off your stuff (consoles, games, etc) but ONLY the ones you like the most. No need to show your Dreamcast if you're never gonna use it, and everyone knows what a PS2 look like, but that one limited edition you got? Now that's worth showing.
>>11505047This is what I did, but only because I'm too cheap to drop $300 on a gcomp because I think that's a rip off.
>>11504910This is perfect, anon.
Just fucking set it up bitch. What's stopping you from just putting a CRT on a entertainment center and hooking a retro console up to it. No need for book shelves with LED lighting or fancy set up stations. What's difficult about grasping this simple notion?
The same images on rotation forever.
Personally, I don't even have a "set-up" per se. Whenever I want to play a game, I take the respective console out of a drawer, place it on the filing cabinet next to my desk, move my PC monitor and keyboard out of the way, place a small CRT atop my desk, plug everything in, and just play games at my desk. It only takes about 3 minutes to set up each time, its space efficient, and it keeps equipment out of the sunlight which slows down yellowing. I find sitting in an office chair far more conducive to gaming than a couch, especially if that couch is across the room from the TV.
>>11505864I'll post mine in a moment. It's not very exciting though
>>11504419You are fucking autistic and your pic looks like cluttered, inaccessible shit.
>>11501541Let me guess, you need more?
>>11506782All of them can be accessed just fine.
Other than actual retro ones from old photography, your best bet is Japan.
>>11506810Best one so far. I'd elevate the TV a bit for comfort and put a chair in front of it, and also put that brown pizza in the dumpster before its odor of greasy cinders spreads through too much of my living space, but the game setup is just what it ought to be. 1 TV 1 console no extra crap all about. The game you want to play is running, the games you aren't playing are in the closet waiting like civilized appliances.
>>11504419this is good shit anon
>>11506810Yea anything but Pokémon coliseum
>>11504419The only time any of that shit ever gets turned on is for pics.
>>11501541>picwhen you want the whole world to know you're an eternal manchild.>>11501581It's got that poverty charme/understatement
>>11504419nice plant. It keeps the room from becoming depressive.
>>11506782>like cluttered, inaccessible shit. What is inaccessible? All of them are accessible.
Turned the extra bedroom into my man child room. I would love to have a few retro computers setup but I don't have the room. When I move I'm gonna make sure I get a big basement to turn into a game room.
>>11504419last paragraph ruined the otherwise good post
Nice thread. I've been thinking about this too since I'll be moving into an apartment with my gf soon. I want to have all my retro consoles but have it look nice, and with limited space.>>11504205Best one so far
>>11501541The key to a good looking setup is not filling it with shitty zoomer consoles. Picrel and a 14-20" PVM is literally all you need. Maybe a SNES and Dreamcast if you must.
>>11507835Once more I am astounded by Australians and their technology. Good job Aussie.
>>11501541Mine is shit at the moment. Need to get a new TV or fix this one. I think I need more shelves or some shit.
>>11507831maybe if i was like 46 and divorced this would rock>>11507682This is a decent one. if it was me I would try to tidy up a little bit and back off the chair. it makes the space feel closed off
>>11508395I do need to clean up, got 3 kids and they are a mess. As far as the chair goes the room isn't that big, it's not as close as it seems but what's nice is it's centered to both the flat screen and CRT from the 1 pivot point
>>11501541not realy retro yet but i have a good collection of ps3 gamesim getting ready for that ps6 release in 10 years
>>11501541I don't think mine is too bad, would swap out the [not retro] PS3 for a PS1, but this is what I am working with right now. Use it fairly (all) regularly and keep most of my games in the cupboard next to it.It's definitely about making it look nice, but it also has to be functional too. If it's a pain to setup each time then you're not going to use it.My biggest gripe is the power cable management at the rear, should probably do something about it.
if you have a room for divertissement that cool. But understand that cover the wall of physical videogame is kind gay. People who have that, use that to show off. there is no shame to play on emulator and at some point it is better. You should use that money and space for something more social like a babyfoot table that will give you more fun with your friends. Your friends will actually want to go to your home for that more than just look at your collection
>>11509346Good advice and bad advice. Ultimately it comes down to who you are and what circles you run in.My friends don't come over to see my collection (though some do come over and play my old games), they come over to see me, and I'm not going to shove my interests down their throat. What I am getting at is, this is my hobby; they have theirs, and it's not something to be ashamed of, nor something to be proud of, it's just something to enjoy doing. If you like games play them, if you don't, don't. Simple as that.
>>11509346what a gay name for foosball
>>11501581Good luck poverty bro. I'm rooting for a better future for you.
>90% of pics here don't even have controllers plugged in/vr/ really doesn't play video games, huh.
>>11509337all of that artwork on the records/boxart/labels/etc is going to fade in no time with the sun shining on it like that
>>11501586I'd hate to have been you during the NES and SNES eras.
>>11507682Thoughts on unfinished basements?
>>11509346bubble hockey*
>>11510018Water your lawn bro
>>11510007Has it's charms but bare concrete walls and mechanicals in view is kinda a vibe I'm not into when I'm trying to be a man child and pretend it's 1995 again
>>11510035thats not my pic but if i was that guys neighbour i would piss on his grass for you
>>11502045You could easily get an HDMI to RCA adapter. Adapter will show up as an HDMI monitor to your computer and then it will take care of the rest.
>>11504320>Put all the fire hazards UNDER THE BED!
>>11504419You sound like a woman.Plants piss me off when inside a house, all I can think about is spilling dirt or bugs trying to live in the pot.And yes, the consoles should be displayed, just emulate if you don’t want to see the hardware.
>>11510187>Plants piss me off when inside a house, all I can think about is spilling dirt or bugs trying to live in the pot.cool man well for those of us that arent paranoid schizos plants are the cheat code to making any room look nicer
>>11510187You can get plastic/artificial plants if bugs and dirt annoy you (and rightfully so, they're awful)
>>11501541get the stuff you need to play the games and then play the gamesyou don't need to take photos for internet "people", and it's not like (You) are going to have anyone over to see iteven just having a receiver and speakers makes you a wizard by today's standards
>>11510187Most house plants don't have bugs inside them. That's the benefit of indoor plants. They aren't affected by outdoor conditions. And if you don't want real plants, then buy artificial plants.
>>11510569no plants is better than artificial plants. if i see that gross old people shit, i'm soft ghosting you
>>11504419Don't watch porn on me or my son ever again.
>>11510619unless we're talking that Lego succulent set. that's hot.
>>11510508its not about taking photos to impress a bunch of retards, i just want to setup a retro game room that doesnt look like the OP
>>11509789> Oh no, not my artwork.Nah I already know, I have them on rotation anyhow based on what I'm playing/listening to, off to the sides I have a few hundred vinyls and in the cupboards quite a number of games.Besides, I'd rather have a bright room with natural light than a dark "man cave"
>>11509780>He doesn't put things away after using themThank you for not sharing your nest

Some guys grew up with a girl that was the neighborhood bike. What about those that grew up with a girl that was the neighborhood ladder?
>>11504419yo anon, is that a xbox 360 disc drive/dvd player?I saw one of those for the first time on marketplace but I was confused on why? so you can keep a game in the console then a movie in the drive? or am i confused
>>11506810be careful with your gear next to that gas heater anon. (if that is what i think it is)Had one of those in my old apartment and it would rock your fucking dick off with heat.
>>11511039The external drive for an xbox 360 is HD-DVD. A dead format. I have a panasonic HD-DVD player. I bought a few movies for it, but I stopped collecting. There isn't a format in existence that's plagued with disc rot more than that one. They must have got the cheapest manufacturer in china to make their discs.
>>11510375are the paranoid schizos in the room with us right now?
>>11511064cheap discs was kind of the HD-DVD's reason to exist. The original plan was to use existing pressing plants and modern compression to fit HD movies on modified DVDs to save costs. But then with bluray and its 25/50gb discs they got worried and moved to a blue laser too, negating all their proposed cost savings. So finding a cheap way to manufacture discs was the last avenue open to them to outdo sony on price.

I just keep a handheld on my desk, currently a Game Boy Advance. Great system, though I'm fond of >>11505921 and >>11501581.

Just put a crt in the living room and keep your games/consoles in a plastic tub.
>>11514528Why do you cover your couch?!
>>11514970NTA, but I'm sure it has something to do with what's on the couch.
>>11514528Really niggerish looking living room. I wouldn't listen to a damn thing you have to say.

The problem with many of these video game setups is that you just want to make your own "little nerd corner" and you pay no mind to presentation or if someone else would be there with you. . You buy the cheapest possible shelves and use the ugliest looking colors. This is an issue with another hobby in involved with. I build plastic models. Airplane models, tank models, train models, gunpla models, etc. My fellow modelers spent days and even weeks putting together fantastic looking models. But then shove those models on some cheap bookshelf. Or ontop of their TV. It's half-hearted.

>>11516958Squishmallows are as manly as it gets anyway. Anybody who disagrees isn't secure in their masculinity. Comfy as fuck setup.
>>11516958Golden n64… my nigga!
>>11517186>>11517192thanks anons. If the room wasn't a mess I'd get an updated pic.The CRT is slightly more left. The speakers were causing distortion. Lava lamp between them now.I need to integrate an OG Xbox and a 360 I recently acquired.I have the PC in the top left cube out for maintenance. Had retroarch on it but I'm gonna scrap that and just have it be a couch PCMight park the Coleco as it doesn't get played much and takes up a fuckload of space, and the PS1 because the PS2 does its job and my switcher is out of ports.N64 is on S video to the CRT only right now. Might either passively split the S video, or just go composite so I can switch it. I got a few options here.I got the gold N64 at a garage sale for 35 bucks in like 2006 with the expansion pack even.Only consoles I have a reasonable desire for are SNES and a Saturn. Others would be nice but those two I'd consider as "completing" the lineage.Picrel is the guts of the PC scrounged together from mostly old parts.
>>11516958Legit getting nerves seeing that television sitting so close to a speaker that's probably not shielded.
>>11514970well technically it's a futon
>>11517471It got moved. It was indeed causing some distortion. Bit of pink in the corner. The lava lamp is on the other side of the TV now and the TV is as far left as it can go.Id actually like to wall mount the speakers where the Pikmin poster and the PS1 games are but I don't know if they have a way to wall mount or I would have to do a shelf of some sort.
>>11517186>gay thing is actually TOUGH and MANLY!! AARUGHHHtyping this is ironically the most "please look guys I'm secure in my masculinity I swear" shit ever. no one cares if you like plushies bro

>>11516958Fuck ME, I love that TV. Does the missus have big tits?
>>11518649>no one cares if you like plushies broThat's exactly what I'm saying. Nobody gives a shit except faggots who think everything other than huge trucks and sweaty, naked hypermasculine bara beat em up protags are gay, e.g. (You) judging by your wound up reply.
>>11517186>Anybody who disagrees isn't secure in their masculinityt. someone not secure in their masculinityLet me teach you how to be a man. The correct response is, "I don't give a fuck, I think they're great." Masculinity is about doing what you want and not giving a shit. You telling me that to be masculine is to be more like you is just an alarm bell that a greater-spotted faggot is squawking his mating call.
>>11518732>You telling me that to be masculineGood thing I didn't. Your seething reply tells me you're extremely upset right now though. I wonder why that could be.

>>11516268Those cubby shelves are too big. There's wasted too much wasted space. That Famicom is tiny inside it. Same with the modern consoles. Buy cubby shelves that are half the size. You also should not stack shelves to be almost as tall as your TV. It's a big imbalance.
>>11509858Majority of developers accounted for the stretching
