Double CRt edition
>>
To all CRT users: how do you afford your electric bill? Those TVs were made for a time where the economy wasn't shit
>>
>>11502640
Even a big CRT is gonna consume less then half what a new gaming PC is gonna consume
Its a weird misconception I think it just comes from LCD marketing, crts never consumed alot of power (since the 70s atleast)
>>
>>11502640
it costs less than 1/100 of what heating or air conditioning cost. Once you pay your own bills you'll see it's no big deal. Like a couple dollars a month maybe.
>>
>>11502640
The manual for my 21 inch Trinitron says the power consumption is up to 60W. How is that a problem
>>
>>11502640
If you are living in such poverty that the power draw of a CRT is a serious issue then gaming should be the least of your concern. Maybe worry about freezing to death this winter.
>>
>>11502628
Didn't know CRTs were plants all this time, how can I grow a 14inch Toshiba CRT?
>>
>>11502689
this. most of a utility bill is going to be your HVAC.
>>
I’m retarded, but do Euro tvs just work in the US and with NTSC consoles? I’m in Switzerland and someone is giving away a B&O MX4000 and I might be retarded enough to crate it back since you can’t really find these in the US.
>>
I'm hearing mixed opinions, can PC CRTs play lightgun games via MiSTer?
>>
My Sony KV-27F300 uses 220 watts but it's just me and my wife so our power bill is typically low except for really hot summers here in NC.

This right here is your typical rebranded TV sold in europe. This set was sold under who knows how many brands to name a few KENDO, TEAC, Black Diamond, Goodmans the list goes on
Zoomers might think oh its chinese shit but nope. Chinese televsions were not really a thing in europe. The cheapest sets had either Vestel(Turkey) or Daewoo(Korea) chassi.
What's interesting is the russian roulette you play when getting your hands on these sets.
There are endless combinations of tubes, speakers, chassi that supports multi region and there is no way to tell what you end up with since they have the exact same manufacturer model.
For example this TV was sold as 21" inside on the other hand we have a Orion A48JLL80X01 with a vestel11ak19 chassi(support for RGB but not NTSC color) and insanely huge stereo speakers something that would be more fitting in a 28" TV.
This was a scam that even major manufacturers partook in , where instead of fitting a 51 cm tube which is a proper 21" you get a 48cm 20". There is a review where another guy inspects his specimen and he ended up with a 51cm Philips tube, tiny mono speaker, 11ak19 chassi equiped for multiregion use.

The good and the bad with these sets
Extremely basic chassi so you are guaranteed not to have any digital processing potentially causing issues with lightguns etc
It's one of those televisions where you have to have the remote to access A/V mode
RGB fast switching works but causes the image to go into 16:9 mode so you either set it to 4:3(sometimes you have to enable this feature in the service) through the menus or modify the cable
Typical of vestel confusing service menu even with the relevant manual
Russian roulette is fun

Better picture of the image.
Oh and I forgot another positive thing about these sets is that finding a replacement "original" remote is not a problem whatsoever.

Assuming you play 8 hours a day a CRT will cost $10-$15 per year to run. Not exactly prohibitive.

Anyone here familiar with hvc d seriers tvs? Someone locally is selling a 32d305. It seems to be in good condition and its not far from me. Should I go for it?

I've heard they're good and have deeper blacks than other TVs. You should get it if you have a plan for lifting it, it's like 120 pounds or so if Im remembering right.
>>
>>11502640
I have a tv that runs on vacuum tubes and it pulls 400 watts, 50 watts just plugged in
>>
>havent had a CRT in a few years
>nice Trinitron with component pops up on Marketplace
>grab it
>plug it in and start playing
>see very distracting picture breathing even with "correct" brightness/contrast
>suddenly remember why I sold my last CRT
Am I being too picky? I think I've been spoiled by OLEDs...
>>
>>11508203
It’s either failing voltage regulation or your ‘nice trinitron’ is not so nice. Either way, just embrace the sovl. Most of the charm in a crt is the analog nature of it
>>

Is there a good way to natively watch just straight video files on a normal 15khz CRT TV?
I tried Movian on a PS3 via component but it's a piece of junk that can't even handle basic x265 480p DVD rips.
I was considering getting an RPi4 and using its composite out mode, but setting that up is a gigantic hassle and from reading around it's equally shit as a media player.
Do I have to build a home server and learn how to set up transcoding or something to do this? I thought this was going to be way easier. I don't want to resort to the usual method of the chinesium HDMI->composite converters...
>>
>>11509309
Universal media server streaming to the ps3 is my go to. If I really want the best quality I use handbrake to convert the video to a nice mp4 file that the ps3 likes, but usually streaming had more than enough quality when the ps3 is connected to Ethernet

i'll post a picture of the geometry later. The service menu is such a piece of shit god.
If anyone comes across one of these sets, a remote that looks like this will give you full compatibility brand doesn't matter.
>>
What are some TV models in euroland with an uncommon feature set? Pretty much all non bottom of the barrel models made in the 90s seem similar. One/two SCART plugs with RGB and composite inputs, tubes of similar quality, some adjustment options etc. Was there anything notably different released?

>>11509854
Probably B&O

Philips had plenty of features.and inputs. on their FL matchline chassis.
>>
>>11509878
Also if you see a Philips matchline 4:3 set with FL chassis on the back .
Pick that set up asap very good tubes in those. Just make sure it isn't 100hz configured.
>>
>>11508876
Reminder, according to one anon here, if you see scanlines, your TV is badly configured. Scanlines aren't real according to him.
>>
>>11509887
It depends on the set.
>>
>>11509887
You can increase focus to make them more visible but as a rule of thumb it should be configured according to the service manual
>>
Any decent hdmi to svideo/composite converters out there? I mostly just want to watch stuff.
>>
>>11509947
But he said even 1000 TVL PVMs shouldn't display scanlines if well configured...

on the back with the with the model number and voltage
>>
>>11514283
That won't be next to the voltage, mains frequency for 100Hz sets is still 50Hz. Maybe on a separate sticker, but many TVs don't advertise this, or sometimes have some dumb marketing terms like "True Motion" etc
>>
>>
>>11509309
xbox 360 so far seems to be the way to go
the annoying thing of having to take an mp4 out of an mkv is the only real drawback so you have to do SOME converting at least
unless what you want to watch is an mp4 and isn't the latest TYPE of .mp4 then its probably already compatible. console's powerful enough for 1080p60 at a reasonable bitrate even.
>>
>>11515169

Probably not. x265 is relatively new and I doubt the hardware is capable of it.
The wii can play mkv files but it can't play anything that was encoded in too modern a fashion.

My wii hooks up great to this POS. Currently trying to use a pi4 and using a 3.5mm to composite cord. I got the visual ok (still not properly set up to use 480i or 240p).
Next is just going through all the settings to get the audio to function which I haven't figured out yet.

newer tvs had digital tilt adjust, older tvs you usually need to re-seat the yoke which is a pain

>hook up the ps3 to watch initial d

apparently the app doesn't work but i haven't checked because it won't let me launch it at my TV's resolution anyway
you can still use plex by enabling the DLNA setting and then searching for media servers, which is what i was attempting
