Rare should've waited until the Gamecube to do character switching on the fly because this game's design is headache inducing even just on a casual playthrough.I can't believe I got suckered into giving this game a chance despite all the outcries of tedium and monotony. I'm never listening to /vr/ again.
>>11503750Try it with these QoL patches instead, OP. It makes the game a lot more tolerablehttps://dk64randomizer.com/#overviewhttps://www.romhacking.net/hacks/4961/>That's not how the devs intended it! Yeah yeah, whatever. Don't care. It's clear this is how it was meant to be played if given more dev time.
If you don't have the attention span to play the game normally, then just say so.
>>11503750You didn’t even pay for it. I did when it came out and was stuck collecting stupid shit for fucking ever. This was the death knell for the collectathon. At least this expensive ass game came with a based as hell expansion pak though.I still like the atmosphere and graphics of the game though and had fun with it, so even though I don’t like it I also do like it.Nobody thinks DK64 is a truly great game, and nobody ever did.
>>11503761>It's clear this is how it was meant to be playedif they intended you to be able to tag anywhere there would be no reason to have items only certain kongs can collect. Dont pretend to be a game dev just say youd rather play some romhack because you like it.
>>11503750>Rare should've waited until the Gamecube to do character switching on the flyWhy? Games have been doing character switching on the fly since little samson and uforia on the nes
2025 and this game is still filtering adhd kids and grandpas, based game.
>>11503750>Rare should've waited until the Gamecube to do character switching on the fly No, they were just incompetent devs.
>should've waited until the Gamecube to do character switching on the fly
>>11503750What makes you think tag barrels were a hardware limitation and not a design choice?
>>11503770It's definitely one of those weird in the middle ones that could've been genuinely great
>>11503750>Rare should've waited until the Gamecube to do character switching on the fly
>>11503761>qol>randomizerenough
>>11504071it has an option to have no randomizations, just apply the quality of life improvements.I don't recommend it though because it breaks some shit. just use the tag anywhere mod instead.
>>11504054For sure. As a kid I loved the expanse of it because huge open maps like that were still kind of a rarity. The platforming and different abilities and weapons of all the kongs was great. I also loved the music and sound design and that it was actually something you could get lost in for hours and hours....but man collecting that much shit is just fucking boring after a while and makes you want to stop playing what is otherwise a really solid game.Close to being truly spectacular but tripling down on collecting stupid shit was the wrong move.
>>11503750>Each level has 200 banans total, collectable by any kong (instead of the 100 each/500 total per level)>2 gold bananas each per level, and 5 "standard" collectable by anyone for 15 total per level (standard would be collecting the Kong letters, DK coin, 3x bonus games)>The jack-in-the-box' speed is 10% slower because fuck that wall>Keep in DK and jetpack arcade games>More animal segments in bonus gamesThat's the game's problems solved imo. As >>11503771 said quickswap tagging defeats the purpose of using specific Kongs for specific challenges and trivialises some parts.
>>11503750Your assumption that "on the fly" chatacter switching was not possible on the n64 is false.Apart from that mistake your post is just repeating a sentiment that we have heard do many times it's sickening. I don't even feel like I'm talking to a person. OP might as well be a youtube thumb nail. Bots have more original andcwell constructed thoughts.
>>11503750The concept of swapping isn’t bad. The problem is that you basically have 5 characters that control slightly better than Tooie’s Mumbo to lug around basic platforming levels. The back and forth *could* be fun if the level design / character movement was fun, but DK64 fails in that regard.
>>11503885Counterpoint
>>11503761>Casual of LifeNo way fag.
>>11503750> I'm never listening to /vr/ again. It’s your own fault for listening to the tendie cope squad.
The change everywhere hack is retarded and ruins the game. You very rarely actually have to switch kings every time you see a colored item. Just pick it up later when you play the game the next day as a different kong.
I have a project64 save state of a Donkey Kong 64 (U) rom that I was 100% up to fungi forest but I always get a timed error message after 30 sec even if I exit to main menu "SP DMA READ Could not fit copy in memory segment" it's supposed to be able to use the in-game save to store an .eep file in the emulator's save directory to get around this (because save states are unreliable) but my rom sucks and the .eep file that it makes isn't doing that intended behavior. I tried changing plugins and GLideN64 LLE mode. what is the best way to continue my progress? this shit took me like 10 hours at least and I was having a good time even without the change everywhere hack
