Because what it does it does it very well (artstyle, graphics, story, gameplay, level design & gimmicks, etc..), and even if its dark it still goofy and humorous, just not as cartoony as 1 or wacky as 3.>Compared to 1 and 31 is way too difficult and having to get all cages to fight the final boss sucks, 2 is very easy yes but the game is so fun the easy difficulty isn't that much of an issue.3 is a mixed bag, it has great graphics, music and combat but everything else is hit or miss like the comedy or the platforming, the score system also isn't very intuitive and the rewards aren't worth getting 100% score on each level and the gimmick levels aren't that fun besides funkyboard and snowboarding.What I'm saying is that 2 is very well balanced in general and that's why it receives the most praise in the series.

Also, I don't care what anyone thinks, shooting energy balls was 10x cooler than reverting to muh fists with shitty powerups. Even Rayman Arena is better than 1 and 3. Rayman 2 is fucking awesome.

This game is one of those "rented it and got stuck, and it's lived rent free in my mind ever since" games for me. I was 8 so I'm sure I just missed some obvious telegraphed way to proceed, but I wondered for years what the rest of the game was like. Maybe it's time to settle the score and unearth some repressed memories about being molested in the process

I don't hate the first game or anything but it's highly flawed and very easily could have ended up like hundreds of other platformers of the time that were one off then forgotten about. you're tripping if you honestly think 2 isn't a massive improvement over it and just a much more polished game overall.
