Older systems will always be superior because the limitations force devs to get the most of out them, when today's stuff is just diminishing returns with graphics and other bloat.Games like the Guardian Legend and Mr Gimmick are very related.
>>11506967>Guardian Legendrecca is a better pick if you're gonna nominate a shooter game
>>11506967Deep Duck Trouble looks genuinely 16-Bit, it took the Master System and Game Gear to their limits.
>>11508440I forgot the screenshot because I'm retarded.
>>11507080The Guardian Legend (Guardic Gaiden) actually breaks on Sharp Twin Famicom consoles because they are not 1:1 reproductions of Nintendo's hardware. It does actually utilize hardware to the fullest.
I fucking loved this game. Frame rate was no problem
>>11506967Are we counting games that use extra hardware such as special chips and RAM expansions, or just the vanilla hardware?
>>11508442>the state of that screenshotYour self-assessment of being a retard is spot-on.
>>11508442filterfags have gone insane
>>11508615>>11508621What's wrong with it? I think it looks great.
>>11506967Miria my beloved...
>>11506967>Games that take full advantage of the hardwareRanger X on the Sega Genesis is this. It's Run / Fly and Gun Mech Shooter that looks so good and has so much action on screen it feels like you could stick it in an early 90's arcade cabinet and no one would guess it was running on home hardware. The devs threw every hardware trick in the book to make this work, the lighting effects in stage 3 are especially cool. It doesn't come without drawbacks though, there is some flicker when lots of stuff is happening on screen and like Metal Slug, it runs at 30fps. Looking at the sprites and backgrounds, what is most amazing is that they stuffed it all in an 8 megabit cartridge.
>>11506967One instance where the western art mogs the fuck out of the japanese. The generic redhead anime babe portraits are so unappealing. Her PLAYABLE sprite has black hair so she should have fucking black hair.>muh palette limitationsDon't care, it's the experience that matters. It made her unique and interesting, making her yet another dumb smiling pretty girl destroys that. Art is an emergent experience, it can surpass the artist.
>>11510624>you could stick it in an early 90's arcade cabinet and no one would guess it was running on home hardwareThe sound gives it away though, you'd have to bet on the cacophony of an arcade not for people to notice
>>11507080It flickers out the ass though.
>>11508594Based framesage.
>>11511504Anon, it was all drawn by Japanese staff.
>>11510502Can't see anything beneath the filter.
>>11508615>>11508621He's been posting these for a while now. Pretty sure he's just baiting for reactionsPic related is how he says he plays GBA games
>>11511504I prefer the anime girl to HR Giger.
How they did shit like the multi-layered and -directional parallax scrolling at breakneck speed is still beyond me.
>>11506967Batman & Robin on the Genesis is pretty much straight up demoscene craziness.
>>11511586If you're referring to the painted image in >>11511504, that's art by Naoyuki Katou.
>>11511504nah
>>11506967>TGLAre there any hybrid genre games like this on the SMS/Genesis?
>>11511931Don't insult the grate game like this please. Demoscene is all about graphics effects, but this game is genius as game design is concerned. Democrap people can't do games. Taking your words it's Amiga that's full of demoscene crap all graphics no game.
>>11512042>Democrap people can't do games. Shut up.
>>11511586Why is she so fat
>>11511504I don't understand your post. The painting you posted IS the Japanese box art.
>>11506967Didn't Sony get shitty with the Vibribbon guys for bypassing hardware blocks to make the game work?
>>11511541One thing I've noticed is that my screenshots look too dark, especially on my smartphone's screen, but when playing on my tablet it looks perfectly fine even on lower brightness... odd.>>11511546I'm not baiting, I genuinely don't get what's so wrong with my shaders, I like them. Here's how I'm playing GBA now by the way, I've updated my shaders a bit.
>>11511536more games should've used flickera lot of the best looking pc engine games look as good as they do because they weren't afraid to have some flicker
>>11511931Wow, thanks for the rec. Ive just been assuming it was the same game / a port of the SNES one. Intro goes hard as fuck, ost goes hard as fuck.
>>11511641Blast processing.
>>11506967It's also a mixture of oversaturation of games and no new ideas being implemented in an unexplored sea. How many fucking 2d platformers can there be before it gets old? Reinventing the wheel is difficult and not many people have the capacity to create a new rose bud without it being too much like the last million blooms. Pacman was revolutionary and now it's considered one of the most over cloned and generic games that programmers learn as a first exercise in game design. There was a decline in quality with all media in the last decade and a half or so, but things seem to be turning around a bit as if late. I think it's a good thing to be hopeful and positive as to what the new year brings.
