The ultimate emulation pc under like 300 dollars Kek
>>11509293Simple as.
>>11509293>enable modern shaders>fans start blaring, gameplay drops to 3fps, bursts into flames and the resulting housefire destroys your childhood video game collectionoh no
>>11509293Could it handle fightcade and slippi?
>>11509375>get a VGA CRT monitorsolved
why would you want 1080p with black bars, are you retarded?
>>11509293>4TBThe SSD alone is 300 dollars.
>>11509332>>11509293Your ass gonna need more than 8GB RAM if you want to 'play everything'.
>>11509293The 4TB SSD alone would be 300.
I literally emulate on a 2010 office piece of shit PC, it emulates everything up to and including 5th gen + Gamecube perfectly. For 6th gen I'm using actual consoles though
>>11509495>>11509537no, not really.Except burgerland prices for SSDs are somehow wrecked.
>>11509332>ebay for used pc componentswell meme'd
>>11509293>>11509537Using SSD for emulation is retarded. HDD is totally fine. The fastest 6th gen DVD drive is slower than the slowest C64 era HDD.
>>11509614If you want to properly emulate 6th gen you're not doing it under $300 regardless
>>11509293But I need at least 8k to have accurate shadow mask shaders...
>>11509293I got one of these for $80 back in like 2017, try harder.
>>11509615Nah that's wrong. I emulated PS2 with a 3400G at unlocked fps. It wasn't a stable 60 fps, but it was way faster than a PS2. The other day I saw a 3400GE PC on ebay being sold for $80. You could also find an i5 6500 PC for literally 30-40 bucks on FB marketplace or ebay. Combine that with a $5 512MB display card if you want to maximize CPU cache utilization for better performance. PS2 emulation is cheap as fuck because PCSX2 is so well optimized. For the rest of the 6th gen though, as well as 7th gen, you need this at minimum to have a good experience in some demanding games >>11509332
>>11509683No, it's right. Proper emulation, not shitty speedhacks in hardware rendering mode. Play a game like Ratchet & Clank 3 with your 3400G and watch it crawl.
>>11509683I'm playing PS2 on an 8th gen Intel laptop CPU and I can push it to 2x upscale at full speed. GCN is harder to emulate.
>>11509332Good morning Sir!
>>11509687I've upgraded my PC and gave it to someone else, but I assure you it would've been possible. I played Black at 50-60 fps.>>11509761Back then it was the opposite. PCSX2 got some huge optimization upgrade in 2023, now it's running smoothly on low end hardware.
>>11509767>I assure you it would've been possibleNah. R&C3 is still one of the more demanding games to emulate, running it without more dramatic slowdowns than on real hardware requires a better CPU than that for sure.
>>11509784Well it's not a very good CPU, but ryzen 2600, 3600, and 5600 are cheap, and 12th gen intel is probably overkill.
>>11509293>>11509332>>11509765Not bad. But I went the extra mile and spent $2000 to build my gaming PC, so not only can I emulate retro consoles, but I can play modern games as well.>>11509398>MiSTerWhat a waste of money.
>>11509647What’s the model number? I want a wee machine like that exclusively for under my tv
>>11509293>4TB SSDnice. I have two of those, plus a 8TB enterprise model I could get for the same price.still need to find a way to build a low power box for my movies though. the odroid h4 plus would be perfect if it had more drive connections (and if you could mount it in a standard case for noise absorption, enterprise drives are fucking loud even when kept in another room).
Surely a PS2 slim and playing games over Ethernet is cheaper than all of this?
>>11509402There's no vga output on that card.
>>11510215DP to VGA works fine.
>>11510080You realize you can emulate more then just the PS2 on a PC... right?
>>11510350You get some lag. Also if you're emulating console games you would actually want composite/svideo/whatever out to your crt since crt monitors have a bit of a different look than regular crt tvs and you wont get the same sort of pixel blurring effect.
>>11510389For good non-scaling adapters it's negligible. Yeah composite would be nice but that requires some pretty heavy compromises.
>>11509293i'm not that much of a nigger faggoti render software mode for proper accuracy emulation no upscaling faggotryi want it like the real thing
>>11509293Unironicly, a Steam Deck is some of the best bang for the buck you can get.
>>11509402>wait, why can I see the pixels?! why isn't everything smooth and bloomy like in the memes where they photographed consumer televisions being fed rf signals!?
>>11509375just don'temulators have good enough filters
>>11510074there are a million headless mini-pcs like that on amazon
>>11510443unless it's $50 now it's not
>>11510596You can get them used for under $300, and they've been on sell new for $300.$300 was the price the OP stated.
>>11509375You don't need crt royale or mega bezel to get a passable effect when you sit more than 6 inches from the screen.inb4 zoomed-in screenshot of individual pixels
>>11509402>>11510468a PC CRT isn't going to have the same phosphor geometry as a tv. PC monitors have a finer dot pitch, and mostly stuck with round dots until the end. You probably haven't seen a TV with dots instead of slots.
>>11509293I'd say that, for this price, the ultimate setup would actually be an used flagship tablet, like a Galaxy Tab S6 or S7, something like that, since you can plug them through HDMI to act as a home console, on a monitor to act as a PC, or use a telescopic controller to turn it into a Steam Deck like handheld. You get the best of both worlds, just like Hannah Montana did, it just works I guess.
>>11510618>an used
You can also get one of those minipcs for under $400 and it'll do emulation just fine for almost everything. The iGPU will be around a 1050-1060 in performance.
>>11509398post hand
>>11509398>can't afford a $90 used 1050 ti>but can afford a $180 fpgaanon, i...
>>11511128>$90 for a 1050 tiYou're scammed.
>>11511128>$90 used 1050 tiTry $30-$50 depending on shipping method and location in the united states.
>>11510069It is pretty good for its portability to bring retro games over to my friends' place. The analog outputs work for old fashioned CRTs and it digitally outputs to HDMI as well. I specifically worked extra hard on that weekend for some cash to pay someone to do at least 1 mod but they were all too busy, so getting it was just a consolation prize. They even threw in a SNES SNAC adapter, which made batch 2 more worthwhile than 3, so there was good value to me since I really had my heart set out on cleaner RGB from SNES or Genesis.>>11510823I always end out with junk, everyone always raises the pot too high such that it is never worthwhile to bluff with pure junk.>>11511128I guess I was a bit disingenuous as I really wanted to get a 1080ti for the last few years as I'm more into pure raster without any AI assistance. For a card nearing 8 years old, they've maintained their value, even increased recently. I missed out hard not having the money for the 10 series. How was I to know things would so drastically change afterwards?
>>11509293>not the 1080ti
>>11511465>portabilityI don't find myself doing that these days. Most of my friends are working and any time I do get time off, it's either spent with the wife or on my gaming PC.
>>11510646It's just a small error, my point still stands though.
>>11510069>>MiSTer>What a waste of money. You know this is /vr/, right?
>>11512630>br /vr/fag>purchase Analog NT>purchase frame meister>plug in to 200+ hz OLED monitor>purchase $500 physical copy of game to play on physical clone hardware and upscale cleanly to a modern display>for a visually identical experience to some asshole downloading the ROM and firing up RetroArch for freeI can't understand /vr/'s obsession with physical hardware. I sometimes feel like the only guy here who prioritizes just playing the fucking games. The only case I can see merit to is getting a PS2 and CRT because of how dogshit the input lag is in PCSX2 still, but even then it's not like the physical hardware's lag free either. Really it only makes sense if emulation is still dogshit, but outside of the PS2 that's relegated to "the kid who ate Parmesan out of a bag" tier weirdo niche consoles like the CD-i, 3DO, and SG-1000 era shit.
>>11512630>>11512668MiSTer's can't be re-sold on eBay. Consoles and physical copies of games can. Thus putting more value in Consoles and physical games than a MiSTer. Luckily I bought my physical games and consoles long before the prices got ridiculously high (after covid). I actually still use emulation for some games and consoles, but overall there's still value in the consoles and games I own. So if there ever was a day I needed to sell this shit, I'll be super wealthy.
>>11512668>be schizo>make up people that don't exist
>>11509614SSD properly emulates the total lack of hard-disk whine from my SNES
>>11509615The steam deck can emulate switch lol and it’s 300 dollars lol.
I'm on a 1060 3GB that I've been running at 80% fan speed for 7 years on a rig that only cost $600 then. Emulates anything at 4k, plays new games at 1080p/60. You could definitely emulate 6th gen for $300.Heck phones from 5-6 years ago can emulate 6th gen.
Or you could buy a used business laptop to use as an emulation box. Picrel cost me 140 EUR and has a GTX 960m equivalent inside:https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gtx-960m.c2635https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/quadro-m2000m.c2740>>11509332That graphics card is shit and will struggle with PS2 and GameCube. You're better off downgrading the CPU and spending that money on something like GT 1030 GDDR5.
>>11513898Fuck.
>>11512608Which you summarized with Hannah Montana
>>11513898>That graphics card is shit and will struggle with PS2 and GameCubeApparently PCSX2 and GC Dolphin indeed use the GPU to render a few graphical elements, but they're still mostly CPU driven. Unlike RPCS3 that does everything in software and the GPU is only purely for image display.>You're better off downgrading the CPU and spending that money on something like GT 1030 GDDR5.No need. Quadro K620 is enough for 2x resolution and could be found for literal 10 bucks. RX 550 and GTX 950 are $20ish and are much better than a GT 1030. RX 470 is $30 something (or less than 30 for a display-less mining one, could use the motherboard connectors for display instead) and will let you play in 4K.
Not retro. Why is this shit not deleted
>>115139592x resolution is only really enough for 1280x720 with widescreen patches because it's 1280 horizontal pixels. And there's also blend accuracy, anti-aliasing, textures replacements, etc.
>>115140682X resolution is crisp enough for PS2 games. Not bad for a $10 GPU.
>>11514005>Thread about hardware used explicitly to play retro games is not retro relatedhuh
>>11509293I bought GMKtec K8 plus. It's about 300 barebones, and now I can run anything from PS3/Xbox 360 and under. Not retro, but it runs Sekiro 60 fps at high settings. Shit is Gucci.
Would a Xbox Series S be a decent emulation machine?
>>11514426yeah but I wouldn't buy one just for that
>>11514068>>11514159Your all being silly, Just buy one of those tiny ex office PC's like a Lenovo M93 tiny or Dell optiplex USFF. Just make sure it has an intel 6th gen core i5 or better. I got mine for £55 (about $70 USD?) and it came with 16gb RAM, I stuck in a 500gb SSD, put on a batocera install and the Intel HD graphics are good enough for me to upscale everything up to the PS2/Gamecube level. I can use 2x upscaling on PS2 and can get 3x on Gamecube games depending on the title.
>>11514068>>11514159Actually, scratch what I said earlier. If this GPU can't reliably do 2x, there is no way that something with the same microarchitecture and much fewer CUDA like K620 cores can. Every time these kinds of threads pop up I see someone claim that PS2 emulation has been solved and then I run something and get reminded of reality.
>>11514601>Intel HD graphics are good enough for me to upscale everything up to the PS2/Gamecube level. I can use 2x upscaling on PS2 and can get 3x on Gamecube games depending on the title.Really? Though this one at least does relatively better with OpenGL, Nvidia did worse.
>>11515243You could turn off things that use the GPU like bilinear filtering and get better results.
>>11515320That's just making the game look worse but in different ways.
>>11515251Yes intel HD graphics are good enough but you want Skylake or later Intel CPu's and it has to be an I5 or I7 as those chips got beefier integrated graphics with more cores. Skylake are the 6000 series chips so like an Intel core i5 6500t is what's in mine I think. Any intel chips newer than this will have better HD graphics again so if you can get a 7000 series or 8000 series chip it will be even better. Here check out this guys video showing a very similar PC with an I5 7500T in it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XONKVZf0m6oBut that video was 3 years ago so you can get that little PC second hand on ebay for under 100 bucks now and the emulators and Batocera have only gotten better since then and run even better on the chip now.
Has anyone gotten their hand on those new arc graphics cards? How's emulation on them? What about post vr conosles?
>>11515384That is a 6th gen i7 with its integrated graphics in that WEBM. It has the best iGPU out of the entire mobile Skylake lineup except for the Xeons and models with Iris Plus. The Intel HD 630 that later CPUs come with is barely any better:https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/88970/intel-core-i76820hq-processor-8m-cache-up-to-3-60-ghz/specifications.htmlhttps://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/97121/intel-core-i57500t-processor-6m-cache-up-to-3-30-ghz/specifications.htmlhttps://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Intel+HD+530&id=3281https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Intel+HD+630&id=3540i5-7500T wouldn't be able to run that game either, not even at native res. Additionally, Intel iGPUs stagnated hard after Kaby Lake and they still put (U)HD 630 in CPUs as recent as 10th gen, I think. Certain PS2 games STILL don't run well and STILL aren't easy to emulate, especially if you care about input latency (which you should with that particular one).
>>11516150Dude I literally have a Lenovo M93 tiny with a skylake 6600T (just checked the model number to make sure), it has the HD530 graphics but clocked higher thath the lower i5 chips. I have a batocera install on that machine and it plays gamecube games perfectly at 2x or 3x resolution depending on the title and it plays PS2 games at 2x resolution no problem, the only PS2 games I have issues with are ones that are problematic on PCSX2 regardless of the hardware. These emulators really don't need much GPU grunt, most of their work is done by the CPU and the i5 6600t is more than up to the task.
>>11516304>it plays PS2 games at 2x resolution no problemThen show me that particular one with decent latency settings (optimal frame pacing) running at 2x and stable 60 FPS.>the only PS2 games I have issues with are ones that are problematic on PCSX2 regardless of the hardware>problematic on PCSX2 regardless of the hardwareIf they are problematic regardless of hardware, then why does using a better GPU give me better results?
>>11513959>Unlike RPCS3 that does everything in software and the GPU is only purely for image displayWhere do you people get these ideas? There are many games that are heavy on the GPU in RPCS3, especially once you bring enhancements into the equation. Go try playing the original MotorStorm with the 60fps patch at 2x resolution scaling on your 1050 Ti and let me know how you get on.
