Is Monster Hunter "arcadey"?

No

Been meaning to ask, are any of the older Monster Hunter games worth playing? I've mostly played 4U, Rise, and World (4U being my favorite), so is there any point to going back or is it one of those series that just built on itself making the older entries sort of asinine?
Slow, tedious, no scoring...filled with grindan and fetch quests...pretty much the opposite of arcadey

>>11510527None of the retro ones. The PSP and 3DS entries are all varying degrees of solid, but everything before that is very obviously not quite there yet.
>>11510527To play the old ones you have to not be a casual.
>>11510959Gotcha, I just didn't know if maybe 1 or 2 had some reason as to why they'd be worth revisiting. Sometimes there's something good left behind in the older entries that's just left behind as a series goes on, but like I said, MH feels like it just kept building upon itself with the biggest departure being Rise.
>>115109742 has some good moments, and is referenced a lot, but if you don't mind missing out on refrences don't worry. The entire G rank area from 4U is from 2, by the by.There's a mod that fixes 2 so that its not analog stick for combat but buttons, but it's a bit finnky.
>>11510527Unite is still the best MH ever, but if you started with World you are going to get filtered hard with it.
>>11510527Dos and FU are definitely worth play. However Dos isn't really for casual MH players. I had a blast playing it a year ago when the private server launched. You would be surprised at how the combat has been almost the same since the beginning.
>>11513194>>11513234>>11513293I might get 2 and freedom Unite a go, but 2 sounds like they both might be sort of asinine as I played a ton of 4U. Sucks cuz I like Rise, but I've heard 4U was peak so I'm hoping it's not all just 4U again but less... still, Monster Hunter is Monster Hunter so at the very least I'll still have fun. I'll be skipping the new one so I'll need something to scratch the itch.
>>11513307Yeesh, sorry for the messy, stream of concious post. I think I got the vid so I'm pretty out of it at the moment.
>>11513307Be warned that the small monster in Dos are assassins hired to kill you. They are actually a threat in the game, they are strong, have a lot of health, are on your ass, and respawn quickly. They become easier to deal with as you get stronger in the game, and you get better at dodging/ignoring them.
>>11510527Tri has a great atmosphere but the best version of it is on wii U
>>11513332That'll be a weird and maybe cool change of pace. I appreciate the heads up. >>11513348I actually had it for the Wii U back in the day, but it was long before I understood what made MH good. The usual reasons that filter people filtered me and I got rid of it.
Grabbing 2 with the original controlsFreedom UnitePortable 3rd (hd)Figure I'll play them in that order
>>11509649>is PSO arcadey?
How long until Crapcom remakes it?
>Worse grinding than a JRPG>Different attacks are done with the right analog stick>Fun areentirely secondary to le big numbers going upWhat a waste
>>11513514You will not enjoy 2 with the original controls.
>>11513554That bad eh? Guess I'll grab the rom that's patched with the eng+psp controls.
>>11510214Because you directly correlate with board quality being so low.
>>11513554>>11513572The original controls work surprisingly well. They aren't perfect though, but they aren't bad. The slower weapons like GS are fun with it.
