>requires you to take your GBA out into the sun to play the game properly
>can't see shit because the GBA screen isn't backlit
How did this get four games?

You can only see the OG GBA's screen fully in sunlight lmao.
Guessing you only had a SP or aftermarket modded system.

nah we just have mods to change the sun levels with the press of a button.

massively improves the game. fuck going outside
>>
>>11511038
Changing the sun levels with the press of a button defeats the whole point of the game. If you played it like this you didn't beat the game pastie.

>can't see shit because the GBA screen isn't backlit
I love when underage zoomers try to larp as oldfags. The GBC and GBA have reflective LCD screens literally designed to be viewed in direct sunlight. You'd know that if you ever actually owned one and took it outside.
>>
high IQ bait
>>
>>11510839
Well, the fourth game was on a backlit system and didn't require you to take it out into the sun.
So there's that.
>>
>>11511046
You can look out a window or check a weather site and gauge what the sunlight might be for yourself.
Actually, I think someone was looking into hooking the game up to use a weather service to auto-adjust the meter. I wonder how that worked out.
>>
>>11511139
I don't even get the appeal of the gimmick, it makes the game easier based on how much sun you have? So the only benefit of playing it in the sun is you get an easier game. By that logic since playing it in the sun is cheating anyway, what's the downside to using a mod to change the sun levels.
>>
>>11511012
Hook it up to a sunlight censor, and put it on your windowsill
>>
>>11510860
Yeah the original GBA was designed to be played in full sunlight.
>>
>>11511262
The sun charges your solar gun, but also makes it overheat faster. It's basically ammunition. You can't even play the game in the dark, sections of it are impassible because you need to be able to shoot sometimes. You could charge up your gun and then try to conserve the charge whilst playing in the dark, but that's not really how the game is meant to be played.
>>
>>11513053
there is a solar charge station where you can dump solar units that can be used while youre playing in the dark
>>
>>11511046
>If you played it like this you didn't beat the game pastie

life is too short

Other anons have already mentioned it but this post is extremely wrong. I'll reiterate for anyone who doesn't have experience with old screen technology.
The GBA looked best under the most extreme sunlight, in fact I had a special bench that I liked playing Castlevania Circle of The Moon on, right at around midday, it was the one way the screen would look perfect. If you tried to do it with artificial light it just didn't work, it had to be the most intense perfect sun.
It was later on when I got a Nokia phone with frontlit that was impossible to see in full daylight. If I wanted to read a text I had to cover the screen with my hand.

unironically the only kojima game I truly enjoy. some of the nicest looking sprite work ever. gameplay is really fun. solar gimmick is pretty meh but these days I just emulate it anyway. are the sequels any good?

Lucky I still have my original GBA sitting around in a drawer nearby because it's been years but I swear I remember it always being hard to see shit on that screen and it was only after they started doing lighted screens that I could finally actually start seeing video games on handhelds. It's 3 in the morning right now but when the sun is up I'll go out and test it. Just need to find some AA batteries now. If I'm wrong I'll come back and admit it but I genuinely don't remember enjoying GBA games until I started emulating them and didn't have to worry about the screen being lit.

Why? Sounds like a valid strategy on paper

>>
>>11513986
Alright. I've verified it with my own GBA. In the face of actual proof, it seems I must concede that my memory was wrong and the screen really is easier to see in the sun. That said, the screen is dim even when playing in the light, so it really looks like shit no matter what you do. Perhaps that is what I was remembering.
I can't believe I used to be able to put up with an unlit screen. Generally I'm pretty stubborn about technological advancements, but I'll admit the lit screen was one of the crucial ones.

Sunlight issue solved.
>>
>>11514157
Because you can't store enough to actually complete dungeons, some of the puzzles require you shoot stuff.
>>
>>11516653
It sounds like the solution is just to play on emulator with the patch, then every so often awkwardly holding my cell phone up to the sky to simulate the experience of pointing a GBA to the sun in an attempt to charge it.
>>
>>11516782
Yes the hacked rom with button combination to change the sensor value is superior to even the original hardware/cart experience because the original GBA was dogshit and the cartridge slot on the SP was not in a good place for the sensor to work either.
>>
>>11510839
>it’s another “We can’t decide how and when you could see the GBA’s screen” thread
>>
>>11511050
they're going to if they keep playing their game in the sun like that.
>>
>>11517084
Have you ever tried, you know... sunscreen?
>>
>>11517087
sunscreen also gives you cancer from chemicals and has been shown to barely be effective at preventing cancer caused by UV. it's a scam.
>>
>>11517084
>>11517087
>>11517091
Skin cancer rates are negatively correlated with sun exposure time and positively correlated with the use of sunscreeen. Sunlight is good for you, sunscreen is bad for you.
>>
>>11517113
NTA but to add to this

Sunlight is only bad for those who get literal white scales on their skin instead of tanning. But you can tell who that is because they do not tan and go red from sun burns.
>>
>>11517113
Insanely based post.
I don’t remember the numbers, but skin cancer deaths are vastly inflated and most cancer cells are easily removed by a derm when caught during a generous window of time.

>>11517146
Okay you know what I'm just going to cut out the middleman and never go outside. The bonus is that it ensures I never have any chance of meeting any of you.
>>
>>11517146
Also vitamin D from sun exposure helps prevent a lot of other cancers and illnesses, as well as improving mood and reducing anxiety and depression
>>
>snatchers itt
>>
>>11513982
The sequels are better but how much you'll like them depends on what you like the most from the first game. The series gradually becomes less stealth and more RPG. The gun loses importance and you fight with melee weapons in the sequels.
>>
>>11510839
three games
the fourth didn't need solar
>>
>>11517220
I disagree
the first game is the only strtaight up MGS game, the rest are Isometric action games
>>
>>11517087
i carry a parasol when i can't entirely avoid sunlight. sunscreen is much less effective
>>
>>11517374
Does it look like that one?
>>
>>11517252
I prefer action than stealth so I like the other ones more.
>>
>>11517578
The first game allows you to do both, the second and on forces you to fight
