What "genre" would you call the soundtrack to Contra III: The Alien Wars? Besides just "Video game music". It's kind of weird to think about, can you even pick up an album of music like this that isn't a game OST? It's sort of like a movie score, but not really. It's got this intense, almost malevolent current to a lot of the tracks. Certainly it leans a bit towards "electronic" in places a la Kraftwerk or whomever (stages 2 and 3 have definite strains of YMO), but it's not really just that either. There are a lot of orchestral hits but you wouldn't call it classical. It just feels so unique, even among other game scores.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylQJ_B-CEsghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Plo3YL1CATMhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXvvV1pbNWMalso unique/interesting game soundtracks I guess
>>11511514oops I meant stages 2 and 4 above, the topdown and the bike stage
>what genreThe "Konami kickass SNES soundtrack" genre
>>11511514Imo it's just an attempt at orchestral cinematic score of 80s action movies but with poor sound samples. The only weird thing about it is that it sounds western for a jap game. Reminds me of Lucasarts MT-32 DOS scores.
>>11511514It's one of the best soudtracks on the SNES. It's quality is amazing, as is Dracula X. Some of the best on the SNES for quality and fidelity.
>>11513556That's the entire Konami SNES input, their soundtracks were some of the best in the console.
>>11511514very rockin’ 80s music
>also unique/interesting game soundtracks I guessNothing else on SNES quite sounds like Claymates: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhylX-C-npYThis one stands out to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldecKBeinCs
