Theres something about the games on this system that makes them feel other worldly and comfy. NES games have the same feel but on Gameboy it is amplified. Any psychological or scientific explanations for this? Also, post your favorite original Gameboy games.
>>
Probably just nostalgia anon. I never had a Gameboy so the roms have no magic for me. NES though I did have and it takes me back
>>
It's not exclusive to the original Game Boy, but I appreciate the space between the glass and the screen that nothing seems to have anymore.
Tons of great games, but I'm going to throw out Bomberman GB. I love the scope and pacing of the levels in particular.

I want to play super Game Boy on amber CRT, but I can't find one.
Monochrome CRT + Game Boy makes me cum.
>>
If you aren't using headphones when you play original GameBoy games, you're doing it wrong.
>>
Low res + lot's of black (duh) + design principles are similar to NES

Something about Game Boy games on an original DMG display are still unique. Very few emulators or after-market devices can come close to the look and feel of that display. I wish there was a way to properly mod a DMG unit with a backlight without having to remove the entire screen, because that's what gives Game Boy games their unique feel.

Retroarch has a really good dmg simulation shader.
Analogue Pocket also has a very good one.

>Retroarch has a really good dmg simulation shader.
Yeah the Retroarch DMG shader is the best I've seen. The Analogue Pocket is close but the Retroarch shader does a better job of simulating the dot matrix display slightly "raised" over the screen.

Absolutely, but for a handheld device the analogue pocket version is the best for that form factor.

It’s crazy that open source emulators can offer consumers this functionality and Nintendo officially doesn’t.
>>
>>11513685
I grew up with neither.
>>
>>11513846
>>11513849
Yeah it's the other way for me. DMG screen shaders are ridiculously good. They get the shadow the forms from the LED on the back of the panel and everything.
But GBC shaders/filters don't look even close to what a real GBC screen looks like, the washed colors, the reds that aren't really red, just a reflection of light trying to mimick some kind of pinkish shade, etc. Ever since the DMG filter came out I've been waiting for a good GBC one but it hasn't happened yet, and it's been years.

Somethi g about it feels more real and tactile than just light on things like modern phones. I get a similar feeling when I replay those old Digimon tamagotchi toys. (They used to sell them at gamestop a few years back)
>>
>>11514057
Holy shit, I don't care if that's accurate or not but the colors are awesome and it looks how I remember the GB looking even if it didn't actually look like that

Is there a consolised gameboy that has av output. Want to do something like OPs pic with my black and white PVM but dont want to have the gay borders on SNES.
>>
>>11514428
can your pvm sync to 144 tvlines @ 59.7hz?
>>
You really don't need more than four colors. Limitations breed creativity. This is the recipe for soul.

>>11514057
damn bitch, you live like this?
>>
>>11513685
It isn't, and dumbasses like you aren't worth having a conversation with.
>>
you couldn't actually see the pixels on the original gameboy
>>
>>11513652
Too bad that most of the GameBoy games suck dick. The only good one is Donkey Kong.

They literally advertise the pixels grid on the front of the console itself....
>>
Is it better to play you mono games on DMG or SGB (with a clock fix)?
>>
>>11515576
>SGB
Pixel aspect ratio will be off unless you reduce the horizontal size of the video until the pixels are square, assuming your TV has a setting for that
>>
>>11514428
You could just use a Gamecube with Gameboy Player since that lets you zoom to fullscreen.
>>
it's literally criminal that they didn't go with a 256x240 display on the gameboy wtf were they even thinking didn't ANYBODY bring up that people might want to emulate the thing on their TVs decades in the future?
>>
It's not an official Game Boy game but here is some homebrew that I appreciated recently.

GB Bionic Commando is the best Bionic Commando game / port. Great soundtrack, great late-80's mech anime art style, tightest bionic grappling controls, great stuff.

Hold my beer. Opening Substance Designer right now, I'll show you what the Game Boy REALLY looked like.

When you have less to work with it, it boosts your creativity. Close to limitless resources lets you be sloppy/lazy.
