I'm a big fan of the NES game despite its shortcomings but the SNES game is just so bland. The physics feel too weighty, the controls are bad (how am I supposed to do a running jump punch when running is Y, B is jump and A is punch? There was NOTHING wrong with having punch and run on the same button like on NES, you don't need to get cute just because the controller has more buttons). The camera is so bad that you constantly have to re-adjust it with the L-R button, in some cases I even keep the button held just to see what's coming aheadThe musics and SFX are super bland, getting hit has no sound, the invicibililty power up has no musicEnemies are also super bland, at least in the NES version it felt like half of the enemies were romans or at least humans, here it's like "hedgehog, bats and birds galore", and of course the oh so classic euro platformer "drops of water hurt you" (to be fair the NES had a couple of those but here they're everywhere in the caves) and other shit you can't see coming like spikes appearing randomly from the floorThe level progression makes the game feel drawn out as well, it's usually something like "level theme (forest, ice, etc)-> cave -> level theme again -> cave again". Having the thematic levels grouped together would have made it feel betterI wouldn't be so disappointed if I didn't like the NES game so much, despite being a super short game with basically only 2 (lame) bosses it's such a fun game
Thank you for saying this
>>11515952I've beaten it now and I have even more complains nowI hope Astérix & Obélix fares better but I'm not ready to play it just yet in case it's not
>>11513912I had both as a kid, yeah the NES game was good but you have to keep in mind it's basically just a port of a GB game which itself was just a Mario Land clone. The SNES game is peak Infogrames platformer slop. I suggest you pick up the Smurfs after that.
>>11515965Astérix & Obélix is alright, though I haven't played the first SNES one to compare. If you're on an Astérix spree, be sure to check the Master System games, at least the first one.
>>11513912Haven't played Astérix & Obélix, but both this game and The Great Rescue were more fun on 8-bits. Astérix didn't get along with 16-bits consoles for some reason.
