Surreal retro vidya thread? RIP David Lynch
Sweet dreams, prince.
Not the biggest fan but video games that he inspired were always top notch
welcome to screaming mad george surrear world
>>11514723>that spoilerWait, WHAT!?>look it upNOOOOO!!!Twin Peaks was legit the last TV show I genuinely enjoyed through and through. That bites. Maybe I'll finally start Mizzurna Falls tonight... I'll probably watch rabbits too... damn, the last legit artist in Hollywood.
>>11514723Maybe I’ll finally give this a shot now.>>11514978Yeah, I found out on RT of all places, it’s in their breaking news banner. Someone there is a fan.I am too. I met the love of my life over a conversation about David Lynch. We lost a true auteur.I hope John Carpenter lives to be 120.deadly premonition is still the closest vidya has got to a David Lynch simulator but there is a lot of David Lynch influence in video games all over the place. The Dune dos games are directly based on his movie too and have fmv clips of the movie. David Lynch unknowingly contributed massively to the creation of the modern RTS game.
Played this some years ago and there's nothing else quite like it in my experienceessentially you're given a fuckhuge map to explore with no pointers whatsoever on where to go and what to do, can be a bit frustrating at first but the game gets easier as you build up your tribes' stats over time and find out what the tattoos do
>>11515004For sure, I'd play that again but I just played it last year, and I wanna give it a break after getting half way through the abysmal sequel. That's neet how you met your wife though.
>>11515004>Yeah, I found out on RT of all places, it’s in their breaking news banner. Someone there is a fan.I randomly opened instagram for the first time in months and the post from his account announcing it was the first thing I saw.
>>11514723I was just thinking about this game and Twin Peaks last night, fuck. RIP
I'll miss u Davido
>>11514749>>11514964What games would these be from, by the way?
>>11516396The Silver Case and Paranoiascape
>>11515034some of the endings for this are really fucked up and unsettling
>>11514723What kind of surreal we're talking? More on the aesthetic side or the absurd?
>>11516512You're the best. Thank you.
>>11515242 we pretend that doesn’t exist. It’s so bad that they were selling it for 4 dollars during the Steam Christmas sale lol >>11515343That’s rough. I rarely care when celebrity trash dies but Lynch did things differently and never went the Hollywood hack route or gave me a lecture about how his movies are commentary on racism. He just made extremely unique and entertaining art.Is Mizzurna Falls actually close to Twin Peaks or is it a meme?
>>11516926>Is Mizzurna Falls actually close to Twin Peaks or is it a meme? It's basically a rip-off in a lot of ways, but there's no real otherworldly paranormal element like there is in Twin Peaks, at least as far as I've played. The cast of characters is similar, the vibes of the town are similar, the music is very similar, there's a side story that's basically just Blue Velvet, etc. It's not the same thing, but the influence is clear enough that Lynch probably could have sued and won if he had wanted to.
>>11516948>the influence is clear enough that Lynch probably could have sued and won if he had wanted toWell, you sold me, I’m definitely gonna try this now.
>>11516948In terms of the setting and how all the places look it's 100% a ripoff. The main story's pretty unique and I think how it develops is ultimately even more interesting to me, just because in the end it keeps the supernatural element ambiguous in a way David Lynch never would've cared to.
>>11516926>Taichi Ishizuka: I am very surprised that you are so familiar with Japanese games history! Yes, Mizzurna Falls is also my title. I was the director, planner and scenario writer. Actually, this title is one of the most impressive and memorable games in my career. I got some ideas from Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet, which are both my favourites by director David Lynch.
LSD Dream Emulator was great before people discovered how it worked and ruined the charm and "randomness."
Looks like archive.org has an Mizz Falls already patched translated copy ready to go. It booted right up, now I just need recommendations on a cheap controller for pc. My pc isn’t recognizing my 360 w usb controller.
>>11516971I mean, it was only a matter of time but yeah. I wanna say it was around 2012-2014 when that game became a huge phenomenon. The game is definitely absurdist but it’s not necessarily Lynchian.
>>11516956Make sure you get the Owl translation
>>11516979>My pc isn’t recognizing my 360 w usb controller. It absolutely should since the 360 controller is the xinput standard. Try troubleshooting first before spending money and waiting. Also, by asking that question you will turn this entire thread into a worthless shit-flinging flamewar. I will recommend this anyways:https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Joysticks-Controller-PC-Remappable-vibration/dp/B0D6BJHXGF/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?crid=1OOG5PNRPRU0M&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.w8AxPwDtw_IgpLKq1lkGArTKjgkd4kdeX3j9D4hx064XgOyM4bz1K6OSLC_QlvIOWsQOl078nDSnCo58ovOEl7k9-m9fRBIuLvyK2z3Ou1ojrrR-z7Fw64XqTojVRoaDMtA8UYXKGmIUfGEm9n-iTA3vUyk8-JvDPzxuD_4Nt74opxxMDHcqAZdHsZBqi3WxRX6mlnssvG3Z9-ip3irOzg.amYT62bCGohakBD3pL8EQ6gycelGJPDMkRTUjb1SWbU&dib_tag=se&keywords=ultimate%2Bc%2Bcontroller%2Bwired&qid=1737146583&sprefix=ultimate%2Bc%2Bcontroller%2Bwired%2Caps%2C117&sr=8-8&th=1&psc=1I bought an Ultimate 2C for my gf for 20 bucks on sale and liked it so much I got one for myself. In my opinion this is the best bang for your buck for new controllers. Hall effect sticks, clicky d-pad, great trigger with play. I don’t think you’ll find something better for cheaper, you just gotta put up with them being pastel colors for the wired kind.
>>11516981>The game is definitely absurdistIt's not. "Absurdist" doesn't just mean weird. It's surreal, just not in a Lynchian way.
>>11517027I actually meant to say surreal but we agree it isn’t lynchian.
>>11517003I want to throw the first curveball turd nugget and say that I do not get how anyone can stand asymmetrical sticks for anything retro.
>>11517038He asked for cheap, not authentic. That controller has Hall effect sticks and triggers, super low latency, clicky buttons and clicky dpad. Ultimately he can get whatever he wants, but he asked for cheap, and it’s impossible to do better than that for 20 bucks for an xinput, plug and play controller for his pc which he is implying he wants.
>>11514723first hours in resident evil amnsion on psx 1996 are really David lynch stuff, OST helped a lot.
