1 > 2 > 3
But they're all good. 1 is just the best. 2 and 3 fucked up the level design and added too many dumb minigames / forced backtracking. 2's homeworlds are kino though.
>>
Yeah I agree, that applies to Crash too
>>
>>11514801
Crash 2 is better than Crash 1 though
more level variety, better moveset, and fun secrets / secret levels
3 is just inexcusably bad in comparison though; the dip in quality was far more significant compared to spyro 3
>>
>>11514963
Yeah, Crash 1 is fine but man is it bare bones as fuck. People go on about the environment, but it’s all the same jungle shit that Donkey Kong did better anyways. Crash 2’s snow levels with the polar bear was packed with soul. Fun too
>>
>>11514963
It's actually the other way around for me personally, Crash 3 is still relatively good but trying to 100% Spyro 3 after 2 feels like pure unadulterated cancer. I mean
>the dip in quality was far more significant compared to spyro 3
Just try to remember how fucking ''''good''' the kangaroo levels or some shit like that were and say that again
>>
>>11514794
>fucked up the level design
Absolutely 100% false. Why do people keep parroting this bullshit?

>added too many dumb minigames
The worst minigame already existed since Spyro 1.

>forced backtracking
Literally nothing wrong with that.

Yeah that's the problem with Spyro 3's alternate characters. With the exception of Agent 9, they're all just slow and awkward and less fun to play/control than Spyro. The devs admitted they were running out of ideas and it really shows. Hell, Bentley's control scheme/playstyle is literally just Spyro but slower and without jumping/gliding.

At least the remaster made Sheila into a sex bomb and fixed Agent 9's controls to use both analog sticks.

As bad as the alternate characters are, they're still not as cancerous as the motorcycle levels in crash 3, fuck those irradiated waste dumpster fires and whoever designed them

>Literally nothing wrong with that.
Not OP but this is the shit I hate the most in collectathons
>>
>>11515040
>Absolutely 100% false. Why do people keep parroting this bullshit?
What's false about it? Spyro 2 and 3 had mostly linear levels. The focus on exploring large open areas and nonlinearity from Spyro 1 was gone. Now every level has a clear direct path to the end that the game intends you to take, with not much deviation from it. Yeah, Spyro 1 DOES have some linear levels, but it's like 80% nonlinear and 20% linear. Whereas Spyro 2 and 3 are 80% linear and 20% nonlinear.
They're also a lot more enclosed and the focus on gliding / platforming is greatly diminished.

>Literally nothing wrong with that.
Yes, there is literally everything wrong with the game dangling things in front of your face but telling you that you can't get them until some unspecified point later because fuck you.
>>
Mostly agree. I'd put 2 roughly on par with 1 despite downgraded level designs because it improved Spyro's controls, and I did like most of its missions, but 3 is a tier below the others any way you slice it.
It's just 2 with less charm, more bloat, worse minigames, and worse levels. Only thing it has above the other two games is the story, but that's a tiny part of the game.

I hate everything about those levels, from the visual design and characters to the god forsake engine noises of that shitty boat like bike.

I'm one of those people who actually enjoy playing the Coco levels in Crash 3 but not the bike and plane ones
>>
>>11514794
Pretty much agreed. Spyro 2 has some really comfy levels but I do prefer the lack of bloat in 1. 3 is pretty good, but I'd rather just play the first 2.
>>
>>11515048
Honestly playing through Spyro 1 and I missed going up a large platform and just gliding to another part of the level. Don't recall that happening much in 2 and 3.
>>
>>11515041
Its actually absurd, you can do a lot with Spyro. But this is the curse of 90s Western devs making sequel after sequel after sequel for a single console. No time to think.
>>
>>11514794
Was 3 the one that you ride the skateboard? Might have been 2, I wanted to snap the disc in half playing that shit.
>>

But he can’t hold a gun anon. He needs GUNS

Yeah that was in 3

literally how
it's a simplified version of tony hawk games which are already simple to play

I kind of flip-flop on whether I like 1 or 2 more. 1 is short and lacks gameplay variety, but the level design is better, the lack of missions/minigames to get in the way of exploration and platforming makes it feel more focused, and the brevity is honestly kind of refreshing; there's still a generous amount of levels, and the fact that you can beat some of them before their music track even loops means there's a constant influx of new environments, one every few minutes.

2 can kind of meander, sometimes I'm not in the mood for its more "cinematic" approach with the increased cutscenes and necessity of tracking down NPCs to talk to and get objectives, but I guess 1 has plenty of cutscenes too if you actually sit through all the dragons, and many of the orb missions can be done from the get-go, usually you don't actually HAVE to talk to someone first. You can always just skip the conversations by mashing X. I genuinely like most of the missions (and I say missions instead of minigames, because there are only a few where the controls and gameplay actually change, instead of just using Spyro's normal controls to do a task), and imo Spyro just plain doesn't feel complete without swimming.

In any case, to me 3 just feels like a lesser version of 2, though that only means it's like an 8/10 instead of a 10/10. I honestly don't mind the alternate characters (Sgt. Byrd is a little too slow and ungainly), but I really don't appreciate shit like the submarine, hovertank, and UFO.

I played 2 and 3 the most as a kid but I still appreciate 1 as a bedrock foundation that felt the most ethereal/weird of the three. It became more like a Saturday morning cartoon as it went on.
>>
>>11516785
This showed how clueless they were, Spyro can SHOOT fire. He later on could swallow and spit stones, was it so hard including shooting mechanics based off of that?
>>11517530
That was more to do with the lack of cutscenes. Spyro's opening and ending cutscenes are similar in tone to the rest.
>>
Honestly whole Spyro 1 is my favorite and has the best art direction, the series doesn't get enough credit for having good swimming, something rare in a 3D platformer of the time or even today
>>
>>11517524
If you got stuck in a looping falling animation irl how would you escape?
>>
>>11514794
I agree personally but they had to add the mini games and other shit because everybody complained that Spyro 1 was too short and easy.
>>
>>11517914
I feel like they could've just gotten away with the expanded moveset. Just make the levels larger and add reasons to go back to them, its that easy.
