Is it worth a playthrough?
It ok, not really a horror. The sequel is also translated so try it too if you like the original.
It's far worse than the PS1 King's Field and Shadow Tower games.Basically imagine King's Field but if you took out all combat and RPG mechanics. That's it, it's sort of like a really slow 3D point and click adventure. The art and atmosphere is good but that's about it.
I'll be playing this soon now that I'm done with their dungeon crawlers on the PS1. I know it's basically a walking sim but as a horror fan I've always been interested in it >>11515547>That's it, it's sort of like a really slow 3D point and click adventure. Not always a bad thing honestly. As much as I hate to admit it, something like Rule of Rose would've actually benefited from being that type of game
You'll either love it or hate it
Absolutely worth it, pretty cozy adventure game, with tons of varied full-3D assets and environments. Voice acting, unique animations and cutscenes for all events, one of the best PS1 horror games really. However, it’s not really scary except for a few tense moments. Still horror themed though>>11515547> King's Field but if you took out all combat and RPG mechanics.Good riddance
Controls like ass like you might expect 3D Movement with a Dpad to do. You'll want a walkthrough for the true ending. For me it's the casualized low iq entry.
>>11517391I found it to be absurd and what convinced me that From had devs influenced by the D series and the concept of virtual actors.
>>11517391I played this game in the 00s not knowing anything about what people thought of it and I loved the absolute fuck out of itand then I found out it's supposed to be an awful game. I'm convinced it's 100% sheep mentality opinion without really trying to the game. Like all those people who complain about the walk speed, who don't seem to have played the game enough to realize THERE IS A FUCKING RUN BUTTON.
>>11517475D was a very groundbreaking, popular and influencial game. "Video game history" likes to forget about it because it's an FMV game. Although Shinji Mikami doesn't outright say that, if you read between the lines, you realize that without D there wouldn't have been Resident Evil. With that said D was probably influenced by Mansions of Hidden Souls except they took the concept much further
>>11517918initial plans called for a game in first person about ghosts. So i'm imagine something like Mansion of Lost Souls, or King's Field. I think both would have been forgettable.
>>11517937> So i'm imagine something like Mansion of Lost Souls, or King's Field. He also said the idea was dropped because they didn't have "enough processing power for it". The only way that makes sense is if it was a fully pre-rendered FMV game like D, King's Field doesn't take more "processing power" than Resident Evil, it takes less. When they hear first person Resident Evil people always assume it would have been a FPS, but really according to that interview it could only have been a clone of D. You also need to realize that at the time he "came up" with that idea was precisely when D was the new hottest shit that recieved all the rewards and stuff.also webm related, Capcom did NOT have the skills for a game like D in 1995-1996
>>11517948>also webm related, Capcom did NOT have the skills for a game like D in 1995-1996yes, they lacked the skill to make 3D models so they just hired artists for 2D and hired actors for live action. It was great.
