Ok so what are the essential arcade style games on this thing? At the moment it's a Super Mario World / Gameboy machine for me.

most of the good arcade ports on snes are beatemups and fighting games
>>11515610Anything by Capcom, Namco, Taito, or Konami>>11515641The Konami shmups are good too imo. One of the Parodius games even has extra characters and a save function which I learned on here recently
>>11515610You don't like Donkey Kong Country and Mega Man X?
Cameltry (On the Ball) is a flawless arcade port.

>>11515685Based and ballpilled! On The Ball/Cameltry is a super fun game. Played and beat all levels, I think it's like 99 levels or maybe even more. I beat all difficulties.
>>11515610Okay, I am going to dump a big list, some of them I played and loved, some are going on by reputation alone and I haven't tried them yet. I've included hacks that could potentially make the game better, fastrom hacks especially are nice because they allow games that used cheap slowrom carts to make use of the SNES's CPU to the fullest. Not every game that has a fastrom hack strictly needs it like Pocky and Rocky or Ninja Warriors but many games like Super Ghouls and Ghosts, UN Squadron and Magic Sword there is a night and day difference. There are also translations for JP only games, all games here are in English. List one is for home console games that play like arcade games, list two are arcade games ported to the console. >>11516001>everyone is a zoomer tourist like me
>>11516001>>11516047Forreal, anyone that took time to play around with ROM lists in the early 00's absolutely knows about Gundam Wing Endless Duel. By acting smug about it, all it does is prove he's a basic little bitch who's never gone through a SNES rom list on ZSNES or SNES9X and tried every ROM.
>>11516049I played some bootleg of it too, zoomfag has no excuse
>>11516049>anyone that took time to play around with ROM lists in the early 00's absolutely knows about Gundam Wing Endless DuelNoI've played good games like Super Metroid then I moved on and played Halo like a normal person
>>11516001Sorry you are not as autistic as >>11516049 >>11516056 these people anon, I'm afraid you might have a terminal case of being a normal person. You are doomed to a life of only being interested in retro games a reasonable amount and will never experience being smug about obsessively trying every game in a rom list. There is no cure
>>11516058>>11516071>look at me I'm not only clueless but a pretend normalfag on 4chan!I applaud
>>11515610None, this system was dogshit. Most NES games mog this piece of shit hardware. Play the Final Fight SNES and then the Arcade port. It's a joke. The only one that came close, is Super Ghosts n Goblins and Mega Man X. There was a sailor moon fighting game that's also good.Every genre became shallower on SNES. Shoot Em Ups became boring, platformers became meh, Castlevania doesn't know what it's trying to do.Genesis carried the arcade soul.
>>11516087SNES has more than arcade ports.
>>11516087Lords of Thunder is better on PC Engine
>>11516087Genesisfags are truly the N64fags of the 16-bit era. Inferiority complex is a bitch.
>>11515610Wild Guns, True Lies, Final Fight 2 & 3, Super Castlevania, Megaman X.>>11516135Based gunslinger.
>>11516287I don't care about genesis or snes. I never owned any of them. I only emulate. But it's a fact, that the arcade dna was more involved in genesis games, mostly because Sega had their roots ingrained in the arcades.
>>11516324Final Fight 2 & 3, Super CastlevaniaThese games are so boring, if you played the originals or the classicvanias. You just keep moving right, without anything happening. Which is a shame, because Final Fight 3 feels so good, but it's such a mediocre enemy encounters. SNES limitations couldn't handle many enemies.
Auster already in the house I see
>>11516341>>11516349ok
>>11516341Nintendo never had any arcades or anything, naturally.
>>11516341I didn't own either, and I'd rate SNES and Genesis as roughly equal in terms of worthwhile games. I have basically as much fun emulating either, and I really quite like that they're a little different, sound and graphics for one, and then that both libraries have differing trends for some genres. Lots of cool stuff you'll find on one but not the other. With that said, this isn't a thread about your arrested development or chronic inferiority complex, your lingering middleschool trauma adds nothing to this conversation or subject, and you should fuck off.

>>11515923>>11515925I'd put Zoop on that list. It's not bad.
>>11515610
>>11516495That Tetsuo Hara inspired art on the last one. Incredibly botched English localization for that game too. Replacing the music with ambient noise and the character portraits with digitized real faces, it's like a particularly bad creepypasta.
>>11516135Did the SNES screen flashing ever give kids seizures?
>>11516140this. and bomberman 94 is an absolute embarassment on genesiswill go against the grain and say devil crush is better on genesis though
>>11516287you mean Saturnfags since they never shut up about arcade ports and "hidden gems".
>>11516505Isn't there an option for music instead of ambient.
>>11517141Yes but that just replaces the ambiance with two forgettable tracks instead.
>>11517006CRT flashes are a lot less intrusive than they are on LCD's
You should play some Smash, bro!
>>11515925Isn't parodius better on the PS1
>>11515923>>11515925/thread. Great post
>>11515923>(Fastrom hack)I love that these happenedFixes a lot of issues I had with the SNES
>>11517446Yes, but the ps1 and saturn version are straight arcade ports. The snes has a bit more extra content.
>>11515610>arcade style games>SNES
>>11517501It's weird how people go insane for suggesting playing arcade games on other consoles like playstation or saturn, but on super nintendo nobody creates any drama over it.
>>11516087Being a little harsh on the SNES. It's biggest problem was the slow processor but other than that it was great. Excellent sound, good graphics (when not being compromised and forced into lower resolutions or slow gameplay due to to processor), mode 7 effects etc. It's too bad the processor counts for so much compromising it's ability to play the faster paced games and handle lots of sprites well.
>>11517526Also I should add the excellent controller and good games, this system saw the beginning of the transition away from arcade style to games to more modern story driven, extended sit down type of games.
>>11517446Maybe, but this was a thread on SNES games so I stuck to those.>>11517525Ports of all types are interesting. For ports to lesser hardware you get to see all the changes and compromises they made to accommodate. Sometimes they add cool extras like new stages, better music, improved controls ect. Home ports are also nice because they let you pause, easily adjust difficulty and prevent credit feeding by limiting your continues or sometimes sending you back to the beginning of a stage after using a continue.I know some people like to check out the arcade version if there is one so I made sure to list arcade ports separate from the console only arcade-like games so they could play those if they wanted.>>11517492It's pretty amazing but I can't help but think what bullshit it was to offer those cartridges in the first place. Seeing games like R-type 3 and Sunset Riders run fine I can't help but think SNES would have never gotten its bad reputation without those slowrom cartridges. I've also wondered if Genesis was also saddled with shitty chips like those, or is it just an SNES issue?
>>11517523Yup.And wait until you find out Mega Drive has RPGs too.Youtubers and modern internet ecochamber made you believe that different consoles of the retro era didn't have this or that thing, in an attempt to make each console a sort of "character" to help with midwit pseudo-historian eceleb narratives. But back in retro, these consoles were just having video games, there was no real war outside of kids who couldn't get both.
>>11515610I don't think it's a Game Boy machine, I think it's a gay machine.
>>11517529> more modern story driven, extended sit down type of gamesthat's not a good thing brother
>>11517574MegaDrive had a good balance. SNES is filled with arcade style games, but are made so easy that you'll get bored halfway through
>>11517925>SNES is filled with arcade style gamesno
>>11517953What are those games in the big lists above then?
>>11517953Lol what?
>>11515610ArkanoidGradius IIIKirby’s Panel-de-Pon CloneTetris & Dr. MarioTetris AttackThat’s off the top of my head at least
>>11517968Oh, and Super Ghosrs n’ Goblins or Ghouls n’ Ghosts or whatever the fuck the SNES one is called.
>>11517960>bigSNES of course has arcade style games because its 4th generation console but it has less than it's competition and they don't run well so why even mention them? SNES is for playing child role playing adventure or plumber jumping.
>>11517973Those are arcade games though, and a lot of them run fine. So I am not sure what you're getting at here.
>>11517976Have you actually played Gradius III though?
>>11517979I have, the slowdown's pretty fucking abysmal there. But not every game is Gradius 3 on the SNES.
>>11517987It's actually a good game and I like it but just for examples sake. That's somewhat typical of the SNES due to the hardware. Other games like UN Squadron have fewer sprites moving and/or feel choppy and not smooth. Gradius III feels smooth but slowdown.
>>11517987With either fastrom or SA-1 patches you can remove the slowdown from Gradius III so the SNES version is smoother than the arcade version... which was also riddled with slowdown.>>11517994>That's somewhat typical of the SNES due to the hardware. The console was mostly fine, it was the slowrom cartridges that sucked ass. 99% of the time when you had a game with slowdown, especially crippling slowdown, it's to blame. Look at the difference here.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siwZTorWw2EThat's not extra chips like the SA-1, that is just being able to use the full CPU. Thankfully most games that suffered from this including UN Squadron have fastrom hacks.
>>11517979Most of the shmups on SNES are lame. Even the one made by compile without slowdown, are slog to get through. You won't die because of difficulty, you will die because it's so easy, you'll stop paying attention and die to a wall.
Everything that isn't an RPG/strict platformer/adventure/strategy was still inspired by arcades in the 4th gen
>>11518014Compile in general is lame.
>>11518074
>>11518074Didn't like Space Megaforce either when I tried on the SNES, not my cup of tea. Now R-Type III, EDF, Phalanx, Cotton 100%, Aero Fighters, Pop'n Twinbee, Parodius Da and Fantastic Journey and UN Squadron were pretty fun. Some better now with patches. Super R-Type having no checkpoints is infuriating. Haven't tried Biometal Darius Twin, Spriggen Powered or Macross yet. Overall SNES is not a shmup console but far from a shump desert either. The charming 2 player Konami shmups are great.
TRUXT-oh, right.super smash tv i guess
