Has anyone here made an attempt to emulate the CD-I, or actually own one? And did you get any enjoyment out of it?
The best stuff on the system is still terrible, in terms of video games, but I think the multimedia-interactive stuff is neat and very of its time. Like the Mozart thing. Just like the 3DO it turns games into like, a DVD menu. Several years ago I interviewed a guy who had worked on a canceled Mario game for it, called Mario Takes America. It was a disaster to try and make the CD-i do video game stuff. Some people liked Burn Cycle, but by then it was way too late for the system. Did you ever see the infomercial? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhZdWvnF3do
>>11516364>emulateyes.windows isn't the best but most games are "playable"misterfpga core hopefully can cook everything 100% speed>actually own one?yes. but i didnt have one when they released they were too expensive & i was busy chasing 3do discs>any enjoyment out of it?its a fun novelty itemand the port of tetris is probably the best ever made. unironically
>>11516364There is nothing worth playing on it, it’s worse than the Jaguar. Hotel Mario is legitimately the best game on the system.Even the Tetris port people laud is a horrible version of Tetris that just has a grown up, relaxing aesthetic.>>11516401IIRC there really isn’t hardware inside the CDi for fast scrolling, which means it’s relegated to single screen games being viable. The CDi is basically Phillips trying to make the cheapest possible multimedia pc to fit under your television before multimedia PCs even took off. Its main draw was the video decoder. What everyone says is true: video games were always a secondary function of the platform.
>>11516692>slamming tetrisonce you get used to the controls its great anonplaying it in a shitty emulator for 3 minutes then stopping to go on tiktok doesn't count anonkun
>>11516664>and the port of tetris is probably the best ever made. unironicallyBut it isn’t though. It’s relaxing and cool looking but it doesn’t even have soft drops. It’s not horrible but it’s far from being the best even at the time.
>>11516701No soft drops man. That’s basic, basic Tetris. I take back saying it’s horrible because I admit that’s doing it a disservice…but no soft drops? That’s ridiculous.
>>11516702>>11516704>soft dropsso you want to hurry the game up but not TOO much?hard drops are literally still in the game kek
>>11516709You can’t call it the best version of Tetris when it removes a standard feature of the game is what I’m saying. The game was also going for this adult, “relaxing” Tetris so it’s odd they removed this extremely basic tenant of the game.
>>11516364Yes, I can't say reading up on the rulings of overly specific disputes on Golf is the pinnacle of amusement, but it sure was interesting. Beats any other CD player by a mile.
>>11516664>>11516701I suspect you're a coomlector larping as CD-i oldfag. CD-i version of Tetris is the worst Tetris game ever made because of how god awful the controls are. Input delay and game eating inputs which makes TAS run impossible. I do wonder if there's a way to slow the game down using Cheat Engine to see if the game goes past level 9 and perhaps ending as well.
