I hate FM synthesis. Shit sounds cooooooooooooooornyyyyyyyyyyyy.
So why'd you post it.
>He hate's FM synthesis>Doesn't understand that the Mega Drive's limitation comes from it only doing Sinewave
>>11518130anon I...
>>11518114if only your opinion mattered.

What you meant to write was>I hate musicians that use default soundfontswhich is more correct than>I hate modulating frequencies generated by synthesizersbecause that would make you the person you hate.

>>11518187>awful fart music>disgusting visuals>30FPSWestern games in the 16-bit era were seriously lacking. For every good one like Earthworm Jim or Metal Warriors there were at least 20 brapcore games like X-Men.
>>11518315YeahDon't get me wrong, some western games were amazing, but in general the west only started having tons of great studios in the mid to late 90s
>>11518130Every kind of "wave" is made of sine waves. It's physically impossible for them to be anything else.
>>11518326>Every kind of "wave" is made of sine waves. It's physically impossible for them to be anything else.No.
>>11518326some waves (like the common rectangle wave) would require a literal infinite set of sine waves
>>11518315> fart musicDoes not sound like that on real hardware. The fart thing is a myth created by bad emulation and terrible YouTube compression. FM waveforms are extreamly unnatural and lossy audio codes do not handle them well, resulting in terrible sound, especially, with the horrifically terrible YouTube compression.
>>11518331they're all made of sine waves
>>11518335https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nKzs0gePhUThe real myth is that somehow this doesn't sound like raucous sharting.
>>11518337Stop mixing up sinewave with wave. Holy shit anon have you even made sounds in a FM synth?
>>11518332on a physical level, it's all sine waves, because there is not a speaker cone with zero mass/infinite acceleration, and they become sines further up the chain anyway
>>11518332wouldn't it only need to be up to the Nyquist limit?
>>11518350>wouldn't it only need to be up to the Nyquist limit?Correct. You can always spot a grifter when they have no idea about human hearing range and why going above it is pointless for audio recordings.
>>11518339inb4 anon copes by saying youtube makes it sound completely different

>>11518114There's a solution to that

>>11518315I feel most American developers didn't come swinging until the 32 bit consoles. Technology matched the imagination and they could express it.
having no fx or dsp does kinda suck.>>11518114corny? FM synthesis made for several monster music hits in the 70s and 80s. its become a pretty mainstream sound...unless you just mean in the confines of VGM...
I don't like FM synth drums (which is why most Genesis games used PCM drum samples) but FM synth for most other instruments sounds cool and video game-y. FM bass should be a favorite of all gamers imo.
>>11518969lots of design went like that. The NES did too once there was enough memory for even a tiny drum sample.

>>11518114There are quite sometimes where it is like that, and imo FM is a bit overratedHOWEVERLike most chips it can still give some great tracks, this depends a lot too on which FM chip and the composers technical (as in technological and not musical technic) and musical skills https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqJQxWgOjJo&t=91shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCNKUqzKGKQhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dynuTHeTvZwhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDHIaq1cQdohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osbF9pDirEIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMCN3I695_ghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=celPTqQx2i4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dX7iroL8hchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGCVsOg45Hshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fH4a64oVaAhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6p_kyY7ZUUIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGHXJeWQbD4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0_uE2p8TNIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQpMlE6lHy0https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xp9-ig989ghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3P_KpN9g1whttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0sYzSmG-dohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ulKXQxBhKM
>>11518368I love Sega CD and still have mine and that box! And a clear six button turbo controller.
>>11518114Gameboy has a fine noise fm synthesis.

>>11519606Yuzo Koshiro's masterpiece
The blaring farting fm synthesis bass and brass crackling through as the shitty coded platformer stutters and slows...
>>11518326>>11518340He means only sine wave operators. This is normal for FM synths of the era. The DX7 is the same, although with 6 operators instead of 4.
