The first game that made most of its shit stable of the series.
>Marisa as playable
>slow movement
>graze counting
>portraits
>revealing the setting of the entire series as "fantasy land/land of illusion"
aka "Gensokyo"
You could say that it's what we got the "windows (not retro)" era.

just like 98% of the fans
>>
>>11518938
You're right... but your reaosning sucks.
Half of that is in the prior games. But yes, this is where I think Touhou found it's formula. 6 perfected it.

>containment board
Like that ever worked, just look at /pol/ and /tv/.

I think it's 8, 6 just felt unfinished and it isn't just le Satsuki. The extra stages weren't as unique as the previous games before, even 2 was memorable than this.
>>
Haven't play Touhou, I just watched a video about it and it looks like Aleste but with waifus

If every shmup is "like Aleste" then sure, but you in honesty, it's about as different as you can get in the genre without going horizontal. The whole selling point of Touhou is that there are an absolute fuckton of bullets that create crazy patterns and are usually pretty slow. Most other /vr/ shmups like Aleste are more focused on a smaller number of fast bullets/attacks, enemies that ram you, environmental effects, etc. Most of that isn't in Touhou
>t. just trying to ontopic post
>>
>>11519104
you're not missing out, it's generally considered bottom of the barrel in the genre (that's saying a lot since the genre had a ton of trash made for a quick buck)
>>
>>11519247
Ah yes, shit like"x website" and "containment boards" are totally on-topic.
Fuck off retard.
>>
>>11519302
none of that is in the post you specifically pointed out tho
>>
>>11519258
>bottom of the barrel
The entire genre is the bottom of the barrel since how easy is to make. (It's how Sega Saturn was flooded with these games since it was easier to make, not to mention how hard to make games with).
What made Touhou and other shrumps like let's say; Thunder Force so special is more than just the gameplay. I'd say the characters, plot, music, etc. Which most games of it's genre don't have or they're soulless.
>>
>>11519307
This is why its fanbase is filled with LGBT gen alphas that don't play the game. Meanwhile CAVE fans are there for the gameplay and are mostly 40 and white. Weird!
>>
>>11519305

Literal shitpost, not a argument, next.
>>11519104

Could had been a harmless question but it could be a shitpost since touhoufags are notorious for their "secondary" autism.
>>11519106
>containment board
Also not retro, next.
>>11519109
Also not retro, you get the idea. Stop burying your head under the sand and follow the rules.
>>

Why are you autistic faggots sperging out?

sound like "noo, CoD is not like Medal of Honor because in MoH you have no iron sight!" touhou is aleste but with waifus.

And aleste is space invaders but with mechs. What are you trying to imply here outside of calling out for not being original? Because none of them are, not even your favorite game.
>>
>>11519332
No, not at all. Comparing Touhou and Aleste is like comparing Mario Kart and Gran Turismo. Not sure why it's always ESLs who are so confident to talk about things they have literally zero experience with.
>>
>>11519318
>Literal shitpost, not a argument, next.
I never said it wasn't a shitpost.
But it certainly was an on-topic shitpost.
>>
>>11519347
I have Aleste 3 on Switch and let me tell you, Aleste is the best.
>aleste is space invaders but with mechs
Aleste adds way more stuff to Space Invaders formula, Touhou is Aleste with waifus, it even has the same P capsules with the same physics
>>
>>11519331
I'm bored and just arguing with people for the sake of arguing.
>>
>>11519357
You're comparing apples to oranges.
>>
>>11519323
I was replying to an inherently passive aggressive post, not sure why responding with upfront aggressiveness is a problem. Just pointing out the practical results of Touhou's "soul" that it has over all those other bottom of the barrel games
>>
>>1151935
>Comparing Touhou and Aleste is like comparing Mario Kart and Gran Turismo
>comparing a kart game to the real driving simulator
Now this is retarded. Enjoy your waifus.
>>
>>11519364
You didn't point out shit; you just called it a bottom of the barrel and then made a shitpost for this "passive aggressive" post I made. When I was saying that the genre in general is low because it's cheap to make, therefore most of its games are lazy products, and the good and interesting ones are far in between. And it's rarely a popular one, like Thunder Force and Touhou. There wasn't anything other than an addendum.

>>11519371
And you're comparing a meiji era bullet hell to a mecha space shooter. You're lack of self-awareness is hilarious.
>waifus
Implying that aleste doesn't have one
>>
>>11519357
>Aleste is the best
For me is Thunder Force IV
>>
>>11519145
Nah it's Mystic Square.
>>
The rule change and its consequences have been a disaster for /vr/.
>>
>>11519452
There was always been spergoids even before the rule change, in fact; it highlighted the annoying and worthless retards who lurk here.
>>
>>11519362
Which Touhou game would you recommend for a faggot like (me) that likes Aleste and knows nothing about shmups in general?
I want to understand the difference and I'm cool emulating PC-98 if needed.
>>
>>11519494
TH6 - Embodiment of Scarlet Devil
Play on Lunatic Mode if you're very confident with how well you play Aleste.

Lotus Land is the only one worth really playing on PC-98 if you're just wanting to play a shmup.
>>
>>11519452
Not really. We finally got broken out of the cycle of arguing over tiles in Link's Awakening and crying over SotN. As far as I'm aware, /jp/ doesn't even talk about the games themselves anymore; just the fan-shit.
>>
>>11519494
Mystic Square and Imperishable Night is pretty good.

>>11519835
>Lotus Land is the only one worth really playing on PC-98 if you're just wanting to play a shmup
It just me or LLS is the "easiest" game in the series? I only struggled at the final boss, otherwise it was a cakewalk. I heard even on Lunatic is a bit easy.
>>
>>11519916
Yeah, Lotus Land is pretty easy. I beat the first time I played it. Then again, that might just be because I was gutting it out on higher difficulties in TH6 - 9 around that time.
>>
>>11519841
I was sick and tired of losers screaming at the top of their lungs when it's "not retro". They got what they fucking deserve.

>/jp/ doesn't even talk about the games themselves anymore; just the fan-shit
Funny story; so years ago, there was a thread on /jp/ about secondaries, you know the lowest common denominator of the community who never played the games and only known about the spin-offs, manga, etc. I posted here to make the argument that there's no such thing as a "fake fan", they lost their fucking shit lol. Which is really ironic, considering the entire catalogue was a random character with irrelevant questions, all which has nothing to do with the games at all.

Recently, I played Touhou games (1-4) on normal and despite struggling at first, I had a good time with it, sure it's not perfect (Evil Eye Sigma and Yumemi battle was fucking bullshit), but it was fun. The characters were memorable and the music was amazing. As a person who played Touhoumon games as it's first introduction to the series, it was really cool to see that the series was more than just what I saw at the fanbase and the windows games. HRTP might me my favorite because of how unique it is, the feel to the music, it's way different than any other games ever. It managed to make Arkanoid really fucking interesting lol.

Are the gen alphas in the thread with us right now?
