anyone remembers this? how good was it acually?
>>11670238i think my christian parents would've seen this cartridge logo and deemed it too satanic for our household
>>11670242Interesting. Whenever someone brings up his parents in this context I can't but remeber a post in a forum years ago where anon claimed this game traumatized him when his grandma bought it for christmas when he was like 7 years old.
good but the labyrinth map design was not
>>11670242Its not really a kids game anyway soThough I played it when I was twelve cause my parents didn't give a shit
>>11670238Emulated and 100%'d the ps1 version a few Octobers ago. Good game for the Halloween feel but outside of that it's a competent 7/10.
>>11670242Well it has a strong voodoo component to it including the main character so yea, they'd be pretty much right.
>>11671075what are the differences between the PC version and the ports for PS, DC and N64? I only played the PC version and it's probably 20 years ago that I plqyed it the last time. I know that console ports at the time sometimes had major differences when implementing a game that was originally designed for PC.
>>11670238Pretty good. Navigation is a nightmare, but tolerable. Soundtrack is one of the most underrated of all time. Worth playing.
>>11671332absolutely loved the Marco Cruz theme
>>11670238My thoughts at the time>Ok, here we go, another cynical attempt to pander to the edgelord market. And it's by acclaim so it's probably really jank, too.
Really great game. The enemies are just a bit too tanky on the other hand.
>>11670238Yeah, but why would you play the console versions...
>>11671326PC and Dreamcast have better graphics, N64 is missing some locations if memory serves
>>11671385I never played it on console, however, it should be noted that this particular game achieved a legendary status on the N64 because it was one of the few (and actually the first) adult games.Note that those were the days were the average user had only one console and he was stuck with whatever titles were released for it.
There is no point in playing the old versions the remaster is the perfect version.
is the remaster anything other than polished textures?
My brother had it but I never played it, I was more into Kirby 64 and ISS. I think I will emulate it tonite
>>11670238it was fun, it was ugly and it was like fallout 3 ie walking in a field of grey with set pieces. the draw distance was short but i dont know for the time i was stoked. i havent played it 15 plus years though so this is pure vibes of what i remember...did you play it or asking to justify some online video you saw
>>11671336>at the timelol sure
>>11671576>(and actually the first)I wanted to call you a retard, but then found out that it actually did come out shortly before RE2.
>>11671336Nobody used the word jank until the 2010s
>>11671779I did, I'm a pioneer.
>>11671649It actually finished the game by giving each of the killers their own level, added another new one, included a cut boss and weapon, etc.
>>11671725I played it in early 00s on PC. I was maybe 12 then, never finished it, lost the CD. Recently I thought about this game and wondered if it was one of those games that you should finish just for the sake of it even time made it irrelevant at this point.
>>11671845It's alright. I think the weirdest thing about it is it's a platformer with quick saves, so it just kind of feels stupid sometimes. I'm not even a big fan of metroid-style "oh you cant get here yet come back when you have the X power" design but I still had fun with it.
The biggest boon of Shadowman is its atmosphere, because it's oozing with it.The rest is rather simplistic and janky, especially the platforming was annoying at times. And the soundtrack and sound design are godly. I actually had to turn off the music in the playrooms in the cathedral because that shit was so immensely unnerving.Lack of a proper map meant a lot of running around and "have I been here before" though. It's definitely good for a playthrough if you're into action adventures.
>>11671779I was translating my thoughtforms into the vernacular of 2025.
>>11670238I liked it.
>>11670238Why is he black
>>11673662He's from Nawlins.
>>11671391>N64 is missing some locations if memory servesI believe in fact, the memory did not serve hehehehmlem
>>11673692
>>11671326The only thing I know is that the PS1 version is an afterthought, and is total trash since it wasn't tinkered enough for its hardware because of time, so its performance is abysmal and looks bad.
>>11672310Sure you did
>>11671649First of all it has the complete soundtrack as any other version has different edits or cut versions. Second it restored the killer levels that were cut to basic non-existence in the N64 version. Restored voices that were in the PC version files but with wrong triggers. It's completely uncensored. Has all the secrets from the PC and N64 version. Geometry restored to it's intended version. Better controls, a ton of options so you can switch between the old and new textures etc. There is literally nothing that the old version can offer you. It made any other port obsolete.
>>11672231I'm playing the remaster on PC for the first time and I really love this type of game... it doesn't feel like they make these sorts of games anymore.I love the PC focused third-person movement with a fixed camera like Max Payne / Heretic 2 / FAAK 2. It makes me realize how homogenized third person game controls now are. Every third person action game is free cam with lock on and every third person shooter is the same over the shoulder zoom and walk slow Gears of War system. The platforming and movement in Shadow Man feel great. I love that it's basically Banjo Kazooie's game loop with extremely edgy hellscape setting. Collect jiggies (dark souls) through challenges, platforming and puzzles, to open new doors to new areas to get more powers and more weapons to get more jiggies! The weapons are just okay, but at least they're weird and refreshing. The enemies exploding into blood is nice and the atmosphere and music and voice acting are so much fun.I really would like to see more games that embrace being a character driven, story based linear action adventure game with a little platforming, some fun combat, some cool power growth and semi-open world like setting with some hub areas. I think this would be a great template for indie devs to build games on--it would help them pad content with some light backtracking, make level design easier because it's not open world, and allow for tighter gameplay because it's not another deep RPG or super complex action combo game.
>>11670238i remember playing the demo on pc and lost interest after like 5 min
According to the steam threads for the remaster, there's supposedly a revolver secret that's more convoluted than the teddy bear. Is it just horseshit?
>>11671649there are several changes. the most prominent are:>new levels, each killer now has an own stage>new weapons, there are now two accessable violators>666 (+1) cadeaux instead of 516>new secrets>new difficulty (The Horror) which changes enemy spawns, enemy ai, durability, enemies don't drop life when finished with the shadow gun
>>11670238It's great
>>11674251You might like Akuji - The Heartlessalso Heretic 2
>>11676117I just played through Akuju a year ago and had a blast (aside from one or two dumb levels).
>>11676112is this one of the in-game cheats aka secrets that changes you into some wacky thing?
>>11678162Yeah
My first DreamCast game.I fucked hated it.Some voodoo teddy bear became the main icon for my VMU and I couldn't delete/replace it no matter what I tried short of erasing the entire thing and backing my saves up to a second VMU.
