Ehhhh, im not feeling it. The large sprite and low view distance doesn't suit the game style very well. The music is grating, and the low health beep is extreme ear rape. The map doesn't feel open and fun to explore. I think people just hyped this game up because it was impressive for a gameboy game
Filtered II: Return of Worthless Opinions
I liked it. It is a gameboy game so it looks and sounds the way it does. It is a shame that it never got that color version, because it could have added a lot of variety to the table. The game is basically split up into multiple levels with a hub providing access to them, sort of mario 64 style. I think that works really well for the handheld angle. That being said, no shame in not enjoying. Am2r is pretty awesome, definitely feels very different. Haven't played the switch remake since I've already played through two versions of this. Maybe check one of those remakes since they ditch the gameboy shit
>>11671812There is a color hack now, that's the version I was playing. It looks pretty good. I think my mistake was jumping straight to Metroid 2 after beating Metroid 1. Metroid 1 feels just so much more slick, precise, and fast paced. Metroid 2 has felt like a total slog in comparison probably just due to gameboy limitations but i dont know i had an original gameboy and I dont think the absolutely gigantic samus sprite was necessary
>>11671801>The large sprite and low view distance doesn't suit the game style very well. The music is grating, and the low health beep is extreme ear rape. The map doesn't feel open and fun to explore. All major flaws, as well as having to slowly crawl over the walls of fuckhuge rooms with the Spider Ball, the poor placement of health and missiles refills and various annoying design choices like the stupid sand that you have to destroy one tile at a time and respawns immediately. Overall it's little more than a stepping stone towards Super, especially in regards to the control scheme that's already night and day compared to NEStroid.
>>11671826Yeah I noticed this too. It's simply not "fun" like a nintendo IP usually is. The shooting isnt fun, the enemies aren't fun or interesting to fight, traversing the map isn't really like a engaging platforming section but rather just some kind of dull obnoxious obstacle
I had this as a kid and got filtered because I couldn't figure out where I was supposed to go and kept going in circles because there was no map like super metroid. Everything looked the same and I kept getting lost and ending up at rooms with metroids I had already killed.
>>11671801Just play the IPS ROM hack with the map built-in, this game is retarded without it:https://metroidconstruction.com/resource.php?resource_id=596
>>11671875Metroid also doesn't have a map but it's somehow easier to map in your head because it's really just a bunch of rooms or connecting hallways connected to large vertical sections. So you can kind of remember which door of the vertical section you had to go back to. Metroid 2 is a lot more confusing especially because of the low view distance
>>11671890Are you kidding me? You don't need a map. The first 70 percent of the game is a linear progression: you see the acid levels, you go left or right to clear the metroids, the acid level lowers and you go down to the next area.
>>11671905NTA but this game is absolutely miserable without a map.Yeah, sure it’s doable, but idk why anyone would find the 50th indistinguishable black/white rock pattern enjoyable. At least NES had clearly differentiated environments and your character didn’t take up half the screen. Also good luck trying to get any notable amount of upgrades without a map, though I’m sure I’m gonna get 5 anon spergs rn telling me how they 100%ed this game blindfolded as a 7y/o
I played the classic eShop release in the 3ds and found it more fun than expected I don't like the idea of "Metroid fans" skipping it in favor of the official and unofficial remakes. Also it's version of naked Samus is squishy and I like that.
>>11672000no way you're fitting those hams inside a varia suit
>>11671801Play the remake.
>>11671937I played it as a kid and also got confused and lost because of no map. The tiny view distance and everything being black and white really didn't help navigation.

>>11671801>The map doesn't feel open and fun to explore. This is the only one of your criticisms that is correct. It's still a good game though, just not nearly as good as ti should be.
>>11671937>Yeah, sure it’s doable, but idk why anyone would find the 50th indistinguishable black/white rock pattern enjoyable. It's not that it's enjoyable, it's that it's not difficult... for some people. Like how some people get good grades in math without much difficulty and some people can't even begin to understand that stuff. Maybe you just aren't good at recognizing rooms without color cues, or something like that. That doesn't mean only freaks will like the game. Plenty of people get good grades in math without being socially crippled autists. It really would have been nice though, if the Game Boy had had a better screen. We can probably agree on that.
>>11671801Most game boy games were only good for the novelty of being portable.
For what it was I enjoyed it inspite of some of its issues, the biggest of which is the mostly meh-outright annoying music tracks. It absolutely succeeds at fulfilling its premise, descending into an alien cave system, gradually progressing to an endgame climax.
>>11671937My recollection of 2 is foggy but your flat hatred of the environments doesn't ring true to me. Like the fuzzy plant zone with long vertical drops, thought that was a neat bit of variation compared to the caves.
>>11671812It's impressive for the year it came out in, but there's a ton of GB games that look, sound and play better. It's not "because system," it's "because they made mistakes."
>>11671801Overrated entirely.I don't like Monster Hunter Metroid
>>11672006>zero shit artstyleMy biggest gripes of fanmakes is how they try too much to be legit when they could do better. That being said, i rather Metroid 2/AM2R/SR remade in Super Metroid's engine and i pray to God Metaaquarius is thinking about it.
It just needs a slightly higher resolution and color, that would be the perfect remake.Maybe I'm alone in this but when they made the fan remake and then the official remake it stopped being possible to play this game at all, having to choose from 3 different versions and neither of them being the definitive one. It's basically a instant scratch off the backlog, don't make me play 3 games
>>11672000I love how her boobs are so large here that she has sideboob spilling out.
>>11672000Hi. Can you delete this post? It goes against my agenda. Thank you.
>>11672006I did, and it was fun.
>>11671801Just play the remakes. Personally I prefer the fan made AM2R but the official 3DS remake is decent so long as you emulate it and use 60fps cheats.
>>11671801>Tell me you're a zoomer without telling me you're a zoomer.
I loved Super Metroid as a kid and someone gave me (legitimately) Metroid II in '01 when it was already considered "too old to play."It still had that desolate creepy Metroid tone to it so I enjoyed it even though it wasn't amazing.I can see why many wouldn't like it, and that's fine.
>>11671801This game has a weird comfiness to it, although near the end I felt the need to use the Nintendo power map to help me not get lost.It also has a bit of a "survival horror" feel in its atmosphere with how sparse and eerie the music can be.I got used to the graphics being big and the view distance being limited, it wasn't until much later with how much the map opens up where I needed the guide, because otherwise the game is relatively straightforward.I feel it's best played on GBC with the unique color palette, although I believe it also is featured on the GBA, but not on the Super Gameboy unfortunately.
>>11674260if strong woman than why coom?
am2r is the best version of this, but all in all it's a flawed game to begin with and no remake will ever fix it. it's too linear and directly goal-oriented with the specific number of metroids to kill to really feel metroid-y to begin with.

>>11671801I never liked the huge sprites in this game either. Metroid 1 is a rough play coming from Super, but at least the sprites are small enough compared to the screen resolution that you have a decent viewport.
feather pubes, yay or nay?
