Ambernig's colors just don't hit the same as Nintendo's DSi screen. Looks like everything has a piss filter and not even the color correction shader can match the look
>>
>>11672570
IPS screen with a dot matrix shader is fine but yeah it still won't compare to the native GBA SP or early DS screens. An OLED screen might be a match though.

The problem is that it is too small for my adult hands. Just slightly bigger than a miyoo mini+ or not?

I just got my first china handheld (Miyoo Mini Plus) and I had a question about integer scaling.
I've got GB and GBC set to scale properly, but I'm torn about all the other consoles.
Is it better to just keep to fill the 4:3 with non square pixels or have black bars with proper integer scaling? I get it's subjective but it looks off to me at 4:3. Unless I'm using some sort of heavy shader to effectively blur it out.

That's fine, but you can't in good conscious say that it can reliably play Saturn games when it can only play the lowest end 2d games. New 3DS can play 2D PS1 games full speed, should we recommend new 3ds for someone who wants to play up to PS1? No. That's great you like those games but not everyone plays the same games as you.

Black communities typically waste what little wealth they accumulate on clothing and jewellery. Autistic caucasians and brownies waste what little wealth they have on technology which they typically break within a year of getting.

>>

>>

Less accurate than saying it can play SOME of them.
Without the clarification, it's pretty universally understood to mean all or most, which obviously isn't the case.

It's like if you were to say that rectangles are squares.
While it's true that SOME rectangles are squares, it's not true for all or most of them. And so the clarification is important.

The Game Boy took measures specifically to prevent this.
The fact that Analogue not only chose not to bother, but released it knowing this happens anyway is pretty indicative of what they think about their product and the people buying it.
Putting the shoulder buttons against the cartridge slot almost seems malicious after seeing this.
>>

How are all of my fellow smartphone and tablet CHADs doing? I'm really loving my BSP D6, the PlayStation styled buttons and gray color make this feel like a PS1 themed successor to the PS Vita, or a 30th anniversary PS Portal, but more compact and so much cheaper too. I mean, of course it could fail at any moment and there are some things about it I can't grasp, like not being able to turn off the light on the bottom despite following the manual, with terrible English by the way, and there was one point where the lag was unbearable and I thought it broke, but pairing it again made it work good like before. Its directional pad isn't very good either. Anyways, I'm loving to play PS1 with this thing and, considering it was like US$15 I can't complain much really.

Also, my bigblur.glslp and dropshadow overlay combo is solving the negative space issue well for me.

P.S. I'm getting into DBZ: Ultimate Battle 22, since I recall playing it as a kid at a friend's place and wanting it, but never having it at home. It's not great so far, but the intro and sprites all look incredible and it can be fun in short bursts I suppose, I'll play it more to try getting better at it, for now I'm getting beaten up by the CPU on easy, though I've always sucked at fighters overall.

In that use case, it's stylistic. If it were truly trying to hide the change from one color to another, the dithering strip would have been a hell of a lot thicker than two pixels. And even then, it's a GBA, not a NES, it's capable of far cleaner gradients without the need for dithering. Also bear in mind that the original GBA was still very popular at this time (the SP had only been out for a year) so the screen didn't blur colors in this way for a lot of people anyways.

You think it wasn't meant to blend colors despite the fact that it blends colors on the screen attached to the hardware on which it was made to run?

Of course it rocked... I was a foolish child, anyways it's not great and me sucking at fighters doesn't help, but I'm enjoying it enough for what it is, might just try to get to the end of the singleplayer mode at least once with one of the characters on easy, though I'm not even capable of doing that so far, I really just suck that badly, even with unlimited continues and all, 21 fights is just a bit much I think, even if they're over quite fast, I just suck to hard.

Not hidden cult gem classic, but gaming mags just keep repeating each other that it was the best game for the Saturn and a reason to buy the Saturn on its deathbed when there were much more better exclusives on it that came before it. It's like those children playground argument where the average kid said "I has a ff7" and the playground bully being a sore loser goes "well I has panzer dragoon saga" and since nobody else except that one kid has Saturn and Saturn emulation was dogshit for decades to come, no one can verify if he's lying or not and it just became gospel. Mega Drive and Saturn actually sold well for my region compared to SNES and PS1 due to all the fightan gaems running better and playing better with the default controller so I actually experienced Saturn at its peak and nobody really got a PS1 until ff7. Thanks for reading my blog.

I have an original rg35xx and I enjoyed it a lot when playing Gameboy and SNES games but recently I've been trying to play some GBA Pokemon games and it can't handle the games well with speed-up enabled. Fire Red and Emerald barely manage to be sped up by 50% and the screen starts having green flashes.
Is there anything I can change in settings to make this run better and if not what is currently a good upgrade in the sub 100€ range?
>>
>>11675787
No and you won't get a sizeable GBA fast forward upgrade at this price range yet. Maybe when the new chips hit, if multithreading is relevant.
>>
>>11675791
that's unfortunate
>>
>>11675795
I don't have a good grasp on euro prices, but I think if you go a little above that entering PS2 able territory, you'll get decent FF speeds. These also tend to be better built, if you do your research. I guess the RP Classic would do it if you can still live with verticals, but I wouldn't recommend preordering, especially on a freshly released chip with a brand new android build.

Whichever one of these companies decides to bite the bullet and put in a x86 chip (preferably an AMD Ryzen with a 780m/Z1 etc) into a sub $350~ handheld will win what is the bloated handheld market.
If Ayaneo, Ayn, Retroid etc are already charging $300+ plus for Snapdragon based offerings why not just go full x86?
Those Snapdragon G3s that were just announced seem like a waste since all that performance is going to be tied down due to Arm compatibility (I know Winlator exist but that's not native)

>>
>>11676020
Not happening any time soon. x86 seems to be far more expensive than ARM based chipsets, with it costing far more to break even. Valve themselves already priced Steam Decks as low as they could for their specs.
AYN/Retroid also tried but it just wasn't worth it for them. Some SKUs were cancelled due to a lack of interest, and their Loki (PC device) line had a ton of development issues. When they did eventually launch they were mostly forgotten about due to increased competition. Not only from other PC handheld manufacturers, but from themselves with the Odin 2, since it as competitive of an emulation device.

>>
>>11676085
So long as the latency is good it's not much of a problem, will be more annoying to charge it than anything. They mention a wired mode as well, which would be similarly annoying; Bluetooth is the only real way to sell the "flip it out and play any time" Sony Xperia fantasy.
>>
>>11676086
>wired mode
I used to use a controller/cable combo with an old phone, and it was clumsy and cumbersome. Fine for picking up at home, but nothing I'd want to carry around. Completely defeated the purpose of being portable.
Nobody is buying a controller case for their phone just to connect it with a separate cable anyway. It just isn't happening.
>>
>>11676101
I'm in full agreement, wired mode only makes sense for telescopic controllers where it's on its side anyways, and telescopic controllers have their own portability problems.
>>
>>11676020
You're better off waiting for the next gen of handhelds from Asus, Lenovo, and MSI. They will be priced better, have more support, and technically superior to any chink offering for the next decade.

Not to get all political and shit but there actually has already been a lot of movement in that direction. Honda and Apple are both investing at least a billion each in fucking Indiana of all places for their car manufacturing (Honda for the Civic hybrid instead of Mexico like previously planned, EV SUV for Apple). Apple in particular is planning to invest 500 billion in the US over the next 3 years, which obviously isn't all in manufacturing, but does include building a new manufacturing facility in Texas for AI servers that's supposed to create 20k new jobs. TSMC finally opened up wafer manufacturing in the US during Trump's first term due to the initial Chinese tariffs (yes TSMC is Taiwanese. their relationship with China is complicated in part because they used to have about 10% of their manufacturing done there). Now they're planning an additional; $165 billion investment in Arizona and just broke ground on a 3rd manufacturing plant this week (or it's going to happen later this week, I can't remember).

Absolutely insane statement, I don't think you remember just how fucking awful the 360 pad actually was. Great controller otherwise, but holy fuck that d-pad. I've decided buying a controller for my phone will be more ideal than buying already underpowered devices that will quickly become depreciated and turn into e waste either before I even order it or less than a year. However, it seems the ergonomics for all phone controllers suck and my entire decision depends on the mcon sucking or not. Too bad even Kickstarter adopters won't get their units until August at the earliest.
>>
>>11677658
Just stand your phone up like a miniature widescreen tv and connect a DS4 to it, the touch pad is amazing for on the fly touch screen/mouse controls. Don't bother with a phone grip for it though, playing with a phone strapped to the top of your PS4 controller is some top-heavy bullshit.

I own a 4090 and I'm about to upgrade my 7800x3d to a 9800x3d. No, I don't want the 5090 it fucking sucks. My point still stands that any of these devices will become obsolete to the point of useless within a very short timeframe. You make about as much sense to me as the people still trying to use the PSP in current year(none at all). There are much better alternatives and I already own a legion go, which blows all of these devices out of the water as it is. However, the thing is a brick and absolutely not portable. I just want one device I can have on me at all times that serves all or the most possible use cases. Hope that makes sense.
>>
>>11677494
Psp 3000, $75-100. Then you would need a MS Pro Duo microSD adapter off AliExpress for $2.
Vita, $125-140. Need a SD2Vita adapter for $2.
Can't go wrong with either.

>My point still stands that any of these devices will become obsolete to the point of useless within a very short timeframe.
Not really, unless the person is looking to play PS2/GC and beyond. You don't need to get the Retroid Pocket 5 to play PSX or GBA. You don't need the RGCube to play GB/GBC. If you're chasing the most powerful handheld then that's no different to chasing the most powerful phone.
>>
>>11672204
There is no reason to have more than 2-3 of these handhelds
One for low spec retro games, one for more demanding GC/PS2 games and maybe one more for some specific niche cases

I made a poll a few months ago and most people here apparently ony own one

my guess is the charging, anything above 15w is way to much for a tiny 5ah battery
>>

Yea, I can see how sticking some 24+ W charger in that thing might cook it, regardless of whatever Qualcomm fastcharge certs it might have. Especially doing it 3+ times per day, as the battery gets repeatedly drained from high usage.
Certs don't protect against chinesium pouch cells.

The literal, actual horizontal equivalent is the RG35XX H.

Also, the MagicX handhelds. Pick your preferred screen and unit size.

The only issue with the RG28XX is that, because the screen itself has been natively rotated 90 degrees, that some UI elements such as frame rate show up sideways in the top right or bottom right corner of the screen instead of along the top normally. Anbernic has preloaded every emulator to play every rotated 90 degrees except for the one or two where you want a taller screen, like arcade rail shooters where you'd turn the device sideways to play with the taller screen.
That's literally its only flaw/issue, which isn't an issue at all unless you are super-hyper aspergers specific about seeing the framerate while playing and having it orientated in the top right corner.

>They've been almost giving away the thing since Wuss sabotaged it, probably the harshest he's ever been on an Anbernic on something entirely arbitrary only he cares about, yet it's one of the rare good ones.
Yet he keeps including the Miyoo A30 in videos, he put it in his mini systems roundup but not the 28XX, and I think named it as most underrated handheld of last year for the improvements since his review, which was really just small OS improvements. He's not the only one, I thought it was funny to see the same channels that put out videos saying "finally a good OS for the A30!" when Spruce 2.4 or whatever version came out also put out videos saying "finally a good OS for the A30!" when Spruce 3.0 was released. Both Russ and those other Youtubers fail to mention that Spruce is still shit, it just sucks less than stock. A30 still doesn't have any good OS options, meanwhile the 28XX got MuOS and Knulli shortly after launch and even the stock Anbernic OS is miles ahead of anything on the A30, but they just don't give the 28XX any credit on that front. They also don't really talk much about the fact that the A30 doesn't support shaders and it struggles to play some PS1 games, compared to the 28XX that can do PS1 with lightweight shaders at full speed, they just mention these things in passing at best despite.

It really is weird how they keep trying to make the A30 a thing and keep trying to bury the 28XX despite the latter having the clear upper hand.

My fiancee's family lives in a town 2hrs away from where we're at, and we go there at least once a month, I wanted to take my telescopic controllers without risking damaging them. I couldn't find a case wide enough to hold them though, and while I really couldn't find any that fit my tablet's controller, the IPEGA PG9083s, something that surprisingly did the trick for the MOCUTE 060 and BSP D6, that I think I can recommend for telescopic controllers in general, is a Switch case! I even put on some micro SD to SD converters in the slots for the cartridges, and both the chargers and manuals for both controllers, now I can safely take any of them with me anywhere without worrying, especially the BSP D6 since it's thinner, with smaller analog sticks, and it came with these protectors to put around them in the box, which I'm also going to keep in the case. I haven't tried it yet, but depending on your smartphone's size I'm willing to bet the whole could fit with the controller attached, if you're using a spare smartphone here.

P.S. Wendy: Every Witch Way on GBC is very fun and I recommend it.

It's just the reverse gravity mechanic from the title I'm playing, it leads to some pretty fun platforming! I won't lie sometimes smartphones do change orientations in a way that feels random, or at least unexpected, which can be frustrating, what I do is leaving autorotation off, when I tilt the smartphone and the OS thinks I want to rotate it somehow, a button on the bottom of my screen shows up and, if I press it, it'll rotate, so it's manual.

It works well enough for what it is, at least for me.

The shape looks great. Makes me wish we could get a RG Arc 2 with that screen. Pic is how the two most common Saturn resolutions look on it. Primary Megadrive res too, ofc. admittedly no good for integer scaling, but at such high res scaling outside integer doesn't hurt too much at least
>>
>>11679298
I wanted to get one of these cheap little "netbooks" that were just miniature little laptops mostly meant for browsing the web/using browser apps/checking emails for school.
Turns out they're fucking luxury novelty items now that cost more than fucking laptops themselves do. So I got a shitty Android touch screen tablet and a matching size folding case with wireless mini keyboard, all for under $100.
I still want a netbook for the novelty, though. Sadly, most people who bought them before Covid were literal boomers who just throw shit in the garbage/to the local trash dump when they're done with it/bored with it instead of selling it second-hand.
>>
>>11679407
Didn't netbooks sort of die around 2014? I don't think I've seen anything below the classic 13'', that wasn't a Surface-style tablet-with-a-keyboard.

so my first chink handheld was a rg35xx sp. Wasnt a bad deal cept the chinks sent me the gray transparent over the blue.

No real issues sept that bitch warms up playing gba for some reason and the small screen.

Been thinking of getting the odin 2 portal cuz of the screen and cuz its a beast cuz why not and i dont wanna play pc, just android and retro

should i wait for the reviews of the retroid pocket 2 or bite the bullet and get the portal?

>Be honest, how many GB/C/P form factor emulation handhelds do you own?
currently 3 but soon to be 4;

>Miyoo Mini
>Anbernic RG35XX
>Miyoo Mini Plus
>TrimUI Brick(just bought this tonight)

besides these I also own the following horizontal handhelds;

>RG350
>RG353P
>Retroid Pocket 4 Pro
>TrimUI Smart Pro
>Steam Deck(512 GB Model)
>>
>>11679725
What's your fave? Also, why so many?
>>
>>11679740
>What's your fave? Also, why so many?
honestly hard to say for sure which one is my favorite, but as for why I have so many;

>RG350 was my first, never was satisfied with it on a software level plus it needing to be taken apart to access the internal card was a drag
>Miyoo Mini came next, Onion OS is still one of the best software experiences I've had on these handhelds, but it's too small for me to get too much use out of
>RG353P came next, honestly this one came the closest to being perfect for my needs, just wish it had a little bit more horsepower on the Linux side of things, also had some battery/charging issues that eventually led to me giving up on using it
>Retroid Pocket 4 Pro is a very well made device, but very quickly after I got it I was reminded just how much I loathe all the extra work that's needed to get anything setup on an Android device so I've basically never really done anything with it after initial basic setup(might get a 5 someday since it has Linux support though)
>RG35XX came next, reasonably solid device but none of the custom firmware options at the time really satisfied me
>Miyoo Mini Plus, bought simply because Onion is still one of my favorite custom firmwares and I wanted it on a slightly larger device, should really tinker with it more
>TrimUI Smart Pro I kind of bought on a whim because I wanted something on the cheaper side that could handle some of the stuff most of my other Linux handhelds couldn't and it felt like custom firmwares had finally reached a decent point for it
>TrimUI Brick I decided upon partly for aesthetics, partly because some of the recent MinUI developments(including spinoffs like PakUI) intrigue me(and I'd be able to share the card between it and the Smart Pro), and partially just because of a bit of FOMO thanks to all the Tariffs news

>Steam Deck I've never really properly gotten setup for emulation, though I have gotten plenty of mileage out of it for PC games

After the leaking/swelling battery fiasco of the RP5, is it safe to purchase the RP4P?
>>11679780
Same, looking for something to complement a Steam deck. I've reduced the possibilities to the following but they all present some annoying trait:
1. TrimUI Brick: the matter wears off, heatsink just above the finger placement
2. MagicX Mini Zero 28: charging problems, but should be fixed in a V2 revision
3. TrimUI Smart Pro: shutting down the console while it's in performance mode can make the device inoperable lol (was this ever fixed?)
It's funny that the list reduced to these 3 because they all use the same Allwinner processor I think.
>>11679775
-How long did you have the RP4P for and did it exhibit any hardware problems like the RP5?
-Ditto for the TSP
-Did your matter wear off on the Brick? Which color did you purchase? How many hours did you play with it?
-Lastly, any of the devices listed do the PSP well? I'm just interested in picrel for the PSP though. Not sure if it counts for a high-end game or not

I mainly wanted a chinkheld for some Gamecube action but i got bored last night and randomly decided to try Lakka on switch. After amany tweaking i was a lil impressed. It seems like they optimized the 12 gamecube games everyone play and said fuck it. Well at least the starting areas of TP and WW ran ok, Double Dash ran really good. Light titles of course ran ok PMW2 alien homini, Vexx actually ran which okish was surprising to me. Its not perfect by any means but i can manage.

Can somebody explain to me why the absolute fuck ANY device would ever only have one analog stick?
Even with N64, you want a second analog stick to emulate the C buttons.
It just seems like any chinkheld with one stick is like, suggesting the analog stick is like some sort of miniature, pseudo-arcade stick for people who want to use a stick over a d-pad for some games. But it's SHIT.
Either have TWO STICKS or NO STICKS.
>>
>>11680458
PSP
>>
>>11680461
even for psp games a second analog is nice.
you can offload the d-pad camera in monster hunter onto it.
>>
>>11680458
it's more comfortable on narrow verticals and there's really not that many games you can emulate on those where you'd want two sticks
>>
>>11680378
well MINE didn't, so there XD
>>
>>11680434
The rgb50 is using the e6 max chip, so better than 3566 but worse than t618. Genshin plays surprisingly well.
https://youtu.be/VRasxw2L7Bw?feature=shared
The gkd will use a chip that’s stronger than t618, but that’s the only thing known. Both will use the kite-1’s screen. I’m not sure about the ayaneo that’s also 3:2

>>11680440
For android games. The chip performs better in android.
>>
>>11680507
The majority of emulation devices with one analog stick are horizontal...
>>11680483
>>11680461
This. N64, DreamCast, and PSP may have only had one analog stick/nub but most games play better with two.
