I still keep a ton of ROM sets on an external HDD just in case Nintendo manages to nuke everything at some point... am I schizophrenic?
>>
>>11674854
They couldn't do that logistically but no.

Fuck PCSX2 devs for their stance against PS2 based arcade hardware emulation, like Namco System 256
>>
been emulating n64 mario golf
>>
>>11675046
Expecting emulation authors to not be retarded is an impossible expectation.
>>
>>11675046
why do they have that stance

Always good to have a backup. I agree with that other Anon that they really can't do that unless they nuke the entire internet, but having a backup collection of all your ROMs is good if your computer goes tits up.

We are back like a vertebrate emubros

What are some noteworthy games that even released on hardware like that?

Waiting for somebody to fork the last open source version of DuckStation to create an open source PS1 emu of its calibre but I doubt there's anyone that will do it
>>
>>11675415
DuckStation has improved a lot since I stopped using it in mid 2024 which is great but also tragic. PS1 emulation will lose a lot when the project ends
>>
>>11675415
What's the point?
>>
>>11675427
To future proof PS1 emulation by having a forkable up to date emu of similar quality

Tekken 5.1
Tekken 5 Dark Ressurection
Ace Driver 3: Final Turn
Battle Gear 3 Tuned
Wangan Midnight R
Cobra the Arcade
Soulcalibur III: Arcade Edition (has home version bugs fixed and a better balance)
Zoids Infinity
Druaga Online
A shitton of Taiko no Tatsujin

Are these playable in mame? Heard they have some overlapping drivers with the ps2
>>
>>11675458
PS2 based hardware does not work in MAME at all and likely won't work for many years. Currently Play! emulator runs these games but it's barebones and slow as fuck. PCSX2 would be much better.

Yes you are

I do the exact same thing for the exact same reason.

The board has a Pi to interpret USB inputs to PS/2 and I also have a pico Pi that plugs in to emulate MT-32. There's also the PicoGUS which emulates RAM for vintage computers on the ISA bus. How close are we to emulating 3Dfx Voodoo cards on a Pi to an AGP interface? That would complete the time machine.

Compiled 86box on an old 32-bit 4-core armhf SBC running Ubuntu. Compiling a direct clone out of the git wasn't exactly a plug-n-play experience. Had to fix four errors in one file that was trying to call variables that didn't exist, then I had to wipe out all references to the new ESS emulation since the ASM block was making the compiler choke on an error about a lack of registers. I actually had to use the history of the ESS files to locate the initial commit to find where it was being called to take it out completely. Fun stuff.
Actually runs decently as long as I keep CPU speeds below 20MHz. While not great for serious emulation of DOS games, it's good enough for early 386 and pre-386 DOS gaming. Serves well enough as a test-bed for trying out various oddball programs like different ANSI drivers. Probably could get better performance if I set the optimized flag, but I can try that another day.

Hello marble anon
>>
>>11674854
I don't get the external HDD part, though. Do you keep one copy on the internal one as well?
I understood that you're keeping a second copy of these ROMsets in storage in case they nuke your internal HDD.
>>
>>11674854
depends on whether or not you have a complete set of 6th gen saved.
>>
>>11675753
hdds inevitably break when in use, in storage they have a longer life.
>>
maybe it just me but it seems like the n64 cores in RA on android got a lot better over the past few months? been playing a bunch of games the past week on it and Im not having any of the old issues I used to have it. I know its still not perfect but its good enough for me. damn I love 5th gen, fully 3d games in HD rez and widescreen. purists say its heresy but it just looks amazing to me, and yes I grew up playing them on a CRT too.

its too bad aethersx2 is dead but at least it works great for like 90% of games Ive tried on it. nightshade is utterly unplayable and VP2 is slow as hell which is really unfortunate.

just need xbox emulation and my life will be complete (i know it isnt happening, and I know I could do it on an 'eck or decent PC but Im too poor)

Play the way you like, /vr/o. By the way, I don't play N64 that much but the last time I did it on Android I used standalone Mupen64Plus FZ. I think it's faster than using RA core.
>>
>>11675789
havent had any slowdown issues at all in RA, but Ill keep that in mind if I encounter issues in the future. I know for sure dolphin and citra work waaaay better outside of RA.

Just got done doing some speed tests of different ANSI drivers. MS-DOS's ANSI.SYS, the old freeware NANSI.SYS, the freeware QWIKANSI.SYS, the shareware ANSIPLUS.SYS, and the freeware ZANSI.SYS. Rankings:
1.ZANSI.SYS blew the rest out of the water in every test in every method. Fastest period.
2.NANSI.SYS was a close contender to ZANSI, but slower in most tests.
3.ANSIPLUS.SYS was mostly good in tests, but it was actually slower than ANSI.SYS in two tests.
4.QWIKANSI.SYS is an improvement over ANSI.SYS, but it's not as fast as the name implies.
5.ANSI.SYS as expected is the slowest in every test except two, where ANSIPLUS fell behind.
Special mention to ANSIPLUS making some modifications to the DOS command line's color scheme after being loaded as a device driver. Having what you type in be much brighter than the command line prompt is nice.

Isn't this a redundant general to have on /vr/ of all places? Emulation is omnipresent on this board. There is not a single thread on the catalog where somebody hasn't played the given game through emulation, and there's scant threads without autistic arguments over emulation vs real hardware vs FPGA. Not to mention, there is already an emulation general on >>>/vg/
>>
>>11677041
1. /emugen/ sucks and /vr/ is better
2. this is a thread specifically for the subject rather than somebody sinkpissing about real hardware or crts or whatever in an unrelated thread
>>
Do you guys upscale PS2/GCN games to 4k and do you use widescreen hacks? I tried using them and although I manage to get a pretty clean 16:9 picture, it usually ends up with some form of visual glitch and the UI looking distractingly lower resolution
