Best known for arcade action and blast processing, post some Genesis games that go against the grain and are chill, relaxing experiences. I'll start with Monster World IV, which was so chill that Sega thought the west couldn't even handle it (they were right).

I'd say MW4 is comfy, not chill. The final levels can be tough. As for chill, I'd say something like Centurion or Shining Force.

Disney on SEGA's always a good pick... I'd say World of Illusion is more chill than both of its predecessors though.

Played through this over a decade ago. Loved it. Besides Linkle Liver Story on Saturn, what else should I check out?

A beautiful game, but I think it lacks direction and energy. I was ready for it to be over with when I finally beat it. Feels like a clunky Zelda clone at the worst of times.
And that genie boss over a pit can go to hell.

Is the Saturn sequel any better?

Everyone recommends this game as sega Zelda but its really not and doesn't play as well

Haven't played it myself, but I hear Toejam and Earl is relatively laid back compared to most Genesis games. Some describe it as a rouge-like of sorts.

The Terminator.

It's not easy... but it's like 10min long, you only have a single life, but play it a few times and you'll get good enough at it to manage a clean run of those 10min, and playing it can be quite satisfying, especially the shooting, it feels so much fun here.

It plays much better than Zelda ALTTP, whose battle system can only be described as atrocious. Link is slow as molasses, moves as if he were glued to the door and cannot jump. He barely has any special movement and often suffers from delayed inputs, specially in the case of weapons like the bow or the chain. His enemies cannot fight either, they just run at him like retards. Zelda ALTTP was a launching game, and it shows. Its gameplay is so primitive and limited that it feels like an 8 bits game.
Story of Thor is a million times better. Dungeons have different graphics and themes instead of always looking the same, bosses are spectacular, enemies are smarter, your main character moves like a beatemup hero instead of moving like a drugged turtle, with the familiars adding an extra layer of sophistication to the battles that Zelda completely lacks. It's a better designed game, and it doesn't force you to acces the menus as often as Zelda. And the world's arabesque environments also look more original than Zelda's generic fantasy world.
It certainly has much more energy than Zelda, a games that follows Nintendo's tradtional principles: slow, bland, safe and always looking for the broadest audience.

I love the Genesis, Sega CD, 32X, and the Saturn so this blatant fanboy-ism is hilarious and very welcome!

I did grow up with NES and then SNES though but I play more Sega nowadays.

I just finished Monster World IV and was disappointed with it, this rant makes me want to replay ALTTP as a palate cleanser

You probably expected MW4 to be like Zelda II or the previous games in the MW series. But it's more like a pure platformer.

I’ve played The Dragon’s Trap, so I had some understanding of what it was going to be like. I prefer that one, because at least there was variety in terms of transforming into different creatures with unique play styles, whereas you more or less stay the same throughout MWIV once you get your pet. No weapons besides swords, no other items to find and use (after the first dungeon, you’ve already seen everything you can find from a chest), and even the most basic platformer has something like that.

>wow a nice looking hidden gem!
I dropped it after 5 minutes of gameplay

Such a cool fucking port.
Also oddly one of those games were PAL is better because it runs at the correct resolution and framerate.
