I wanted to like him. Making a grappler the new face of the franchise, which seemed to be the intention at the time, was absolutely based. Alex just had so many weaknesses, most noticeably lack of cancels and crap supers. He always lingered around low tier.

It feels so try hard how he’s a sudden rival of ryu when Sagat felt more natural since he’s been in it from the very beginning along with Ken. The way they gave him a unique move by being able to throw hadoukens midair feels really like a OC donut steel, especially with that hatsu special where it looks so kitsch with him flashing the Heaven kanji. Don’t get me started on his special version of him that you fight without losing a round or meeting certain requirements. I would rather prefer Gill over him with his resurrection move than to akuma to be seen as the bad guy or whatever at least that looks cool to me because he feels like an actual threatening character with a motive than just I wanna fight you to get stronger. Heck I’d even prefer sfa3 M. Bison to him with his giant psycho crusher.

When he wasn't fighting you could assume he had some way of sustaining himself. But as with all things, power creep has to happen and so he has to become the "demon made flesh" and all human considerations are banished in favor of him being a heckin' demonic being of power.
