>>11680292Why wouldn't they flaunt that their console has hundreds of games while the more expensive competitor has less than 10? Nintendo was the big guy on campus at that moment, they were trying to portray themselves as a viable competitor and not a flash in the pan like new Atari consoles.
>>11680292>>11680302A focus on stacking things is generally one of the indicators for ASD. Another is repetitive behavior, like continuously making bad decisions. In the United States, companies are people, we can thus officialy diagnose Sega as a person on the spectrum. Perchance.
>>11680292They had edgy alternative advertising. It was just something in that era.If you know you know.
>>11680359You can't just say perchance.
>>11680371Mayhaps.
>>11680292The truth hurts, doesn't it?
>>11680292Well, I mean they had a point. Genesis came out earlier, in 1991 on SNES launch the library was indeed tiny. They saw an opportunity and they took it. Ads talk about company's advantage over competition, more news at 10
>>11680292They had too many games. Nintendo fell into the same trap with the SNES, but quickly remedied the problem with next systems.
>>11680292“So for the best selection of arcade games, action-adventure, role-playing, sports, you name it, check out the Genesis library.” That’s a half-truth if I’ve ever seen one.
I think Sega fucking up every console afterwards was karma for underhanded advertisement.
>>11680420For 1991? Why not. In fact, unless you're one of those weirdos that call Zelda "an RPG", this wasn't exactly wrong until at least the American release of FF4. Or more like FF6/CT/Mana.
>>11680429I’m just wondering why they would even mention role-playing games, they didn’t even have Shining Force at that point, Phantasy Star IV was still a couple years away, and Final Fantasy IV would’ve already been out or very close to release anyway. So arguing on that point was laughable even then.
>>11680465Phantasy Star 2 was a pretty big deal when it released. Having 1 RPG is better than having none. Although this didn't last long, yeah
>>11680292They did what Nintendidn't
>>11680465Genesis had a bunch of weird ass oldschool RPGs like Bard's Tale and Faery Tale Adventure
>>11680465I wish they had more slower paced rpg games and tactics games on mega drive
>>11680292That was literally their only way to relevance, to make people think it was some David and Goliath story and they were beating the giant. The difference is Goliath never even felt the stone from the manlet, in fact David was so tiny in the eyes of the giant that Goliath never even realized he was there in the 1st place. This trick has been exploited by 2nd place losers for centuries and that's the only reason they got to number 2 in the 1st place. Sega, Burger King, Pepsi, Megadeth, Adidas, DC, Chevy, LeBron James, Naruto, 4chan, etc. All losers that somehow slingshotted themselves to "2nd best on track to become the best" simply by attaching themselves to the top dog.
>>11680537Sales aren't everything.I prefer Sega over Nintendo, or Megadeth over Metallica. They might be 2nd best in terms of sales, but they were number one in terms of quality. I'm not forcing myself to pretend I give a shit about Marvel movies or Taylor Swift either, it doesn't matter how succesful they are.And when you're fighting against a monopoly, you must use any trick in the book. Sega did lots of mistakes and they were too daring for their own good, as opossed to the always safe, cheapskate and conservative Nintendo, but they were actually quite smart during the early years of Mega Drive.
>>11680551> Sega did lots of mistakes and they were too daring for their own good, as opossed to the always safe, cheapskate and conservative NintendoI can feel the seethe from here
>>11680551well said. i still prefer nintendo, myself. because they actually set out to make GAMES, whereas sega was capable of hack-artistry like making sonic into a werewolf or kiss a human princess.
>>11680292They put retards in charge of their business strategy. And that's why they don't make consoles anymore.
>What the fuck was their problem? What exactly is the problem here?
>>11680717>What exactly is the problem here? The one that they(sega) had, what was it?
>>11680570You're talking about 7th gen games in a 4th gen thread. SEGA had some phenomenal output with the Genesis.
>>11680421genesis was a flukesg-1000 bombed, and master system bombed in japan/NA
The "Attack your competition" strategy worked out much better for Sega than whatever the hell NEC was doing in North america
>>11680396Fuck you!!!
>>11680292This advertisement is from late 1991, maybe anywhere between September to October. The Super Nintendo launched in August 1991. At that point the system had a library of maybe 10 - 12 games. The Sega Genesis launched in August 1989. By late October 1991, the machine had a library of about 150 games. Sonic The Hedgehog was being advertised as the new mascot for the system. Though the early years of the Genesis, Sega had a very small pool of third party publishers, with EA being the biggest one.
>>11681663i can still judge a company's entire portfolio based on their work outside of the /vr/ parameters.it's like saying someone shouldn't recognize a red flag just because it was before someone became an axe murderer.
>>11680292They were just too based for their own good
>>11682825>i can still judge a company's entire portfolio based on their work outside of the /vr/ parameters.Cool! Then go back to /v/ and do just that.
>>11680561Nintendo has it's own fair share of mistakes (including some epic fuckups such as the Virtual Boy) but at least manages to learn from them and unlike Sega, Nintendo avoids repeating the same fuckup, or at least tries to minimize it.There's a reason why Nintendo is still on the console market while Sega retired over 20 years ago.
>>11680561No you can't you fucking homo!
>>11682857Nah. You replying to me, and inviting me to your way of thinking, is enough for me. I don't need to go fishing on /v/ for second opinions. I'm content with what you've displayed to me, anon.
>>11680292Absolutely nothing. But apparently you have a problem.
>>11682825>it's like saying someone shouldn't recognize a red flag just because it was before someone became an axe murdererYes, because a person is like a company that recruits and loses people over the decades.
>>11680551>Megadeth over Metallica.lol you prefer the one with the front man who sings like he is gargling cum over James Hetfield?
