The funny thing about this one is that Capcom would go on to make a video game adaptation of A Taxing Woman for the Famicom. They couldn't get the rights for Super Mario Bros. 2, so they replaced it with Sweet Home.

They in shows an movie definitely made BEEP BOOP well into the 2000s.

They still do.
You'll still regularly see video games represented by stock Atari noises, and "Getting the high score on level 60 of Evil Castle" type dialog.
That or hyper violent GTA clones.

Similar to anime still just being Speed Racer dialog, flashing lights and speed lines, and superficial DBZ/Sailor Moon/Pokemon type character designs. Most writers simply don't know any better, and those that do don't bother.

>until the movie and TV show makers realized that video games don't really make BEEP BOOP anymore?

It's not them. It's for audience, the reference should be clear enough so average Joe could get it. Beep boops make it easily associated with a video game.

Kelso in Scrubs show was a top player at Pac-Man and liked GTA (which was referenced as "the game where you steal cars and run over whores" or something like that). One episode had Space Invaders joke.

It's the most common video game knowledge you can have no matter who you are.

What the fuck is that unholy abomination? It looks like the mutated offspring of a Playstation and PCEngine. Does it have two CD drives? It looks like two CD add-ons were just jammed together into one console. And what are those four ports in the front? They look like controller ports, except there are already two controllers plugged in below them. Memorycard ports? Why would there be four memorycard ports but two controller ports? Speaking of which, why do the controllers have two d-pads and no face buttons? Even the Virtual Boy still had buttons on it's dual d-pad controller.

>"12 megabytes of RAM"
A bit of a weird amount but ok, not that odd for the early to mid 90s to have an amount that was not a power of 2, if excessive for most back then
>"500 megabyte hard drive"
Yeah, that's about standard for that era, though might be stretching it for a laptop at the time
>"Built-in spreadsheet capabilities"
... huh? what? What do you mean built-in? This is WELL past the era something like that would be built in, that would just be software you install, it's not some pocket PDA. It might have come pre-installed with some spreadsheet software but that's not "built-in"
>"A modem that transmits at over 28,000 BPS"
Soo... a standard 28.8K modem? Or does he mean he has a 33.6K modem? Probably 28.8 as that would have been on the higher end for that era, especially for one built into a laptop.
>"..."
Wait, that's it? What about the CPU? That's kind of the most important thing to bring up. What about any other drives it has? It's video hardware? It's screen?

You know.the four face buttons might as well be a 2nd dpad. Especially the Playstation style. It'd probably save production costs too. And it would have given devs more flexibility with how they do controls. Maybe you could have have a left and right handed mode in games too.
Damn I'm a genius. I should have been a Sony exec in the 90s. I'm sure there was a cheaper plastic they could have made the console from too

Disney practically owns everything shown throughout the show nowadays, so they could in theory re-release the show with minimal cuts. I guess they just aren't interested though.

NBC's Life's Prince of Persia episode is probably one of the most infamous for both having no idea how games work and no idea how computers work, shame they seem to have taken down every copy of every clip I can find.

Detective tries to find incriminating evidence of a drug dealer but can't find it on his computers
Gets the idea that maybe it's on his game console
Asks a teammate if a game console is like a computer and is told "It's not like a computer, it IS one, it's just a harddrive with games on it." (Mind you this was during 6th gen)
Grabs the dealer's Xbox and somehow determines that you need to play Prince of Persia on it
The term's nerd that admitted to still living with is mother and having a Star Trek uniform is chosen to play
Cut too small clips of the game with "You Win, Go To Next Level" or "You Lose" clearly photoshopped over the footage in papyrus font of all things
Nerd is losing
They noticed some woman was doing air-controller motions during this
They ask her to play
Cut to more clips of the above
Girl is winning
Eventually after a cutscene where you go through a gate the game's image literally splits in half to reveal pages and pages of Microsoft Excel windows opening all over the screen

George: A Virtual Boy.
Peterman: A Virtual “Boy”? Why, there’s nothing boyish about it! Observe the color scheme! The sombre, obsidian trim… the deep, lust red of its shell. This is not for “boys”, George. This is a console for MEN.
George: Exactly! It’s a console for MEN! That’s what I’ve been telling my mother!
Peterman: Tell me George, what is “virtual” about this “Virtual Boy”?
George: Well, if you just look through this part… Let me just power it on… and, voila. Virtual!
Peterman: Oh my…
George: What? “Oh my”? Why “Oh my”?
Peterman: It’s… it’s hideous.
George: You don’t like it?
Peterman: These brutal reds paint a picture so… so GOREY.
George: “Gorey”? I don’t know about “gorey”…
Peterman: It’s gorey, George, and I know a lot about gore. When I was researching and procuring pre-Islamic geometric patterns on a trip to Yemen…
George: I’m sure this is a great story, Mr. Peterman, but I have to leave in — 5 minutes — and I don’t think that will do your story justice.
Peterman: Right you are, George. Keen intuition. Anyway, my point is that I MUST have this device.
George: You… must?
Peterman: Yes.
George: Even though it’s… “gorey”?
Peterman: BECAUSE it’s gorey, George.
George: I must warn you… it’s really not a very good system…
P: Even better!
G: It is?
P: Yes, and I’m prepared to offer you $4,000 right now for it.
G: Even though it retails for only $500?
P: Yes, George. Something about this specific “Virtual Boy” has seized my imagination. The greasy buttons of the controller, the decaying glue of the eyepiece, the thin layer of dust covering it… It is filled with lament. It exudes loneliness. It’s a testament to a life completely lacking of fulfillment or personal development. It must be put in a gallery. $4,000, George.
G: …I could be persuaded to part with it for 5.
P: Done.

Not sure if this counts since it's from a game instead of a TV show, but it is showing a retro game system despite the game itself not being about retro systems.

The intro FMV to Blade Strangers has a quick scene where three spider-mech like machines drop onto the ground and crawl forward, the one in the front is clearly an X68000, not sure if the two in the back are also supposed to be specific retro gaming PCs.

>child's play features a lynx immediately after a timeskip, making the previous films have to take place before they were released
>friday the 13th features zaxxon immediately before a timeskip, making the later films have to take place after they were released
>elm street features a tiger handheld game immediately after a timeskip, making the earlier films have to take place before they were released
what did they mean by this?

I think he also plays Saturn or Master System at the very beginning of first episode? His mom then resets it mid-boss fight to make him do his errands
>>
>>11687897
don't nightmare on elm street & friday the 13th actually take place in the same universe though?

like doesn't the ending scene of jason goes to hell and the whole of freddy vs jason establish that?

Bouncer^ It's an arcade game from 1984 and it's so lost that the only remains of it are its scenes in the film Ninja III: The Domination.
There are no ROMs of it to be found, so what you see in the video is all that remains of the game.

People are arguing which temple that is when I am more impressed that he even managed to make it out of Kokiri Forest if he's that bad, much less managed to get far enough to be Adult Link.

Scratch that, actually the biggest question how he's even playing the game without a cartridge in the N64 (or the N64 being connected to the TV, or the controller being connected to the right port)

i would say 'ok, if the bitch is asking that, it means she's gonna pay for the replacements', but still. if a 'friend' were to go THAT far, assuming i survive a 3-story fall like that. i would go back there, punch her in the face, kick her out of the room and tell her to never see her again.

that is NOT funny!

>>11694027
No, I just thought it was genuinely interesting. It was kinda like Demonik, featured in Grandma's Boy.

>Breakfast? Breakfast, shmreakfast. Look at the score, for Christ's sake. It's only the second period and I'm up 12 to 2. Breakfasts come and go, Rene, but Hartford, "the Whale," they only beat Vancouver once, maybe twice in a lifetime.
