Is it a bad thing that I have a hard time recalling just about every game I have actually beat in the last 2 years? I have to really sit and think about it, even obvious games that I really enjoyed sometimes. I beat a moderate amount of games each year so it's not like it's too little or too much. Maybe it's because I just play games and mostly turn my brain off until they are done? Anyone else got this problem? Maybe I should start making a list and keeping track.

Try Backloggery

I don't really like backlogs though, I pick games on a whim and beat them if I like them. I guess a lot of games despite me really enjoying most are just not super memorable or I just have terrible memory

RetroArch keeps track of the games you play.

Make a list

Outside of just making a list (with or without notes), maybe try something visual to jog your memory. Some vetted screenshots or clips. Just don't fall into the trap of making too many.

This is a good idea, since I think making a note list like >>11682496 is a little drab and dull and I will probably forget to fill it out anyways. Maybe drawing little doodles of fanart for parts that I like during the playthrough would be fun. Or making some kind of shitty blog/diary nobody will read with a little review of each game I beat.

No. Brainworms are great. Some of my best friends are brainworms.

Believe it or not, but just holding ideas in your head leads to a lot of lost thoughts.
Write down a list of games you played and enjoy the exercise. Doodling little things next to your list is also fun. Personally I love enjoying my own personal little calligraphy. It's less fun on a digital notepad.
Making notes is based and now I cannthumb through a physical book and have a highlight reel of my best ideas, and these ideas would've otherwise been forgotten from my mind without any reminder (a note) to dig up the memory.

I wish I had this problem, I could play games I like without remembering every detail. Why does it matter anyway?

I have a spreadsheet of everything I've beat, with columns for things like console, year, developer, published, and the conditions in which I've beat it, like difficulty, alongside the date where I beat it, of course. It's easy to sort out my completion history this way, and makes it fun to look back on, also something to look forward to when beating something new, adding to my spreadsheet.

I'd give it a try, OP!

Don't do it OP. Autism. Not even once.
>>
humans evolved to only beat 2 games per year (one you got on christmas and the other on your birthday)

if you're playing and beating more than that then of course you're going to have problems
>>
>>11682934
Devolved. Your close ancestors beat many games a year, often many times each.

i log everything i play and watch, with version control and backups. Do most people not? You could at least do it in a notebook. It's more enjoyable if you have a good pen such as an ultra pigmented gel roller or a cheap fountain pen with permanent pigment based ink with high lubricity

we played many games, but it was very rare that we ever finished one. Finishing games was rarely the norm.

Speak for yourself, narrative spinner.
>>
>>11682439
It's better that way, you get to enjoy them again like it's the first time!
>>
>>11682598
I pretty much do this, but I don't know how to log games that aren't "beatable" in the usual sense,
>>
I keep a list of games I play, organized by year I played them. Last year I took a lot of notes about different aspects of the games, whatever stood out to me or whatever I had thoughts on. This year I've been pretty lazy though, haven't really done any of the design breakdowns I used to do or recorded any weird/specific stuff that stood out to me on any given playthrough.

Still, just having a list is a nice way to reflect on games played. I do however still mark approximate time it took me to beat a game.

So far my list this year has been a shitload of RPGs, and Dynamite Headdy.

This is a function of age. Games, even ones I really enjoy resonate with me a lot less than games I played as a kid. I can mentally replay a shitty licensed game I last played 30 years ago but something I spent a month playing in 2025? Forget it. It's disposable.

True~!

I beat every game I got as a kid, I even played Gauntlet II to some ungodly level because I was convinced it had to end at some point
>>
>>11682994
For me it was about half and half, maybe less. Games were tougher back then but never underestimate the drive of a 10 year old kid who wants to complete a game he rented over the weekend.

>>11682509
Backloggd lets you make your own private lists.

Doesn't matter. You must provide exactly what I demand or I'm right and you're wrong. I have the autism, I make the rules. This is the law of the kindergarten playground.
>>
>>11682439
engage in brain development exercises like writing by hand instead of brainrot
>>
>>11685994
How is writing by hand "brain development" and everything else "brainrot"? I would say learning a language or learning math is more of a brain development exercise.

Language learning works too of course.
