What's the /vr/ take on this era of Crash Bandicoot games?
>>
Posting before it gets 404'd
>>
>>11689493
Excluding Mutant, thought that was a 2007 release. Titans makes the cut though.
>>
>>11689492
Out of these I only ever played Wrath of Cortex. The GBA games are decent too though
>>
first 3 is good mind over mutants is okay, rest is trash
>>
Tried Wrath of Cortex and it sucked.
Everything that's just a copy-paste situation feels wrong, like the scale of the levels is wrong, the pacing is boring, the movement feels slightly off; and every new idea brought to the table is uninspired or garbage.
I mean, driving a jeep of all things, really? The entire point was to have cool vehicles like a cartoony polar bear, or even the bike in 3 was cool, a jeep is just boring plus it's super slow and for some reasons you're driving towards the screen which isn't suited for vehicle stages.
And don't get me started on the giant ball, fuck that shit.

So I never played any Crash after that. At this point of the series the fans are just as deluded as the fans of Mega Man X5 to X8.

The GBA games were good though.
>>
>Wrath of Cortex
Still feels like a traditional Crash game in terms of tone and atmosphere. Fairly ugly and uninspired but great soundtrack. Gameplay just not up to par with the Naughty Dog originals.
>Nitro Kart
Just okay, but a step down from CTR and has a weirdly budget or "off-brand" feeling.
>Twinsanity
The best of the bunch but hideously unfinished and also the beginning of Crash become too juvenile and goofy for its own good. Crash was always a Looney Tunes inspired series but Twinsanity is where they started getting too silly for non-autistic adults to stomach. Still an average game in the grand scheme of things, but one that has undeniable charm and mystery to it. If it was actually finished, it would be thought of as the only legitimately good post-ND release.
>Tag Team Racing
Full blown Nickelodeon fart and feet humour. Returned it after a week. A mediocre racer with a an ugly explorable world and gross-out jokes. Felt like some Universal Studios bullshit for fat Latino children.
>Crash of the Titans
>Mind Over Mutant
Did not play them for obvious reasons.

I'm sure you can find 4 hour video essays for each of these games where an obese millennial tries to convince you that they were actually misunderstood masterpieces.

Crash 1 > CTR > Crash 2 > Crash 3 (All are at least an 8/10)
>>
I've only ever played the PSP version of Titans. I doubt any of those games are even half as good as the original trilogy
>>
>>11689492
The dark ages. They all lived in the shadow of the originals and I recall most people not liking them. Despite loving Crash Bandicoot in the 90s, I skipped over all of these because I knew something was seriously off.

Just take Nina (and maybe Crunch) and ignore everything else from these games.

dunno anything about ps2 crash but based take about megaman

WoC sucks. Jumping feels way too floaty and a lot of the levels are just awful.
Nitro Kart is fine. Obviously not CTR grade of greatness but it's one of the better PS2 kart racers.
Twinsanity is otherwise good or at least interesting, except it's buggy as all hell. Biggest problem is having to restart sections due to accidentally backtracking to a previous cutscene trigger. Loved the music.
Tag Team Racing isn't awful but it just has fuck all to do with Crash in any way. It feels like a game that was converted into being a Crash game late in development.
Never played Titans or Mutant. I know one of them has some interesting visual choices regarding cutscenes so I'll probably check it out for that alone but I am in no hurry to play either of them.
>>
The GBA games were ok for a handheld console, the Wrath of Cortex and Nitro Kard were just mediocre and TwinSanity is a bad game saved by the humour and memorable soundtrack. The rest are trash.

WoC: A lesser Warped, but decent for what it was and not bad to go back to, feels like what Crash 4 should be.
NK: Same as the above, a lesser CTR, but feels like a sequel at least.
TS: It's the only one that felt like a proper Crash reinvention, something new, that feels like an evolution of the core concepts, fun!
TTR: A lot of ideas, but none executed well, a waste.
CotT: A subpar beat 'em up that feels nothing like Crash should.
MoM: Same as above, but with a little more platforming.

The only really good Crash titles after the Naughty Dog ones for me were the GBA ones.
>>
crash died with the psx
>>
Titans is way better than Cortex but the art style and half in half out beat em up mechanics make it easy to hate. But by the end of the game I was pleasantly surprised.
>>
I think there are multiple eras in play there.
>>
>>11689492
my zoomie gf loves MoM, from what I've seen is of the metroidvania variety

I've never played Titans nor Mind Over Mutant, are they worth checking out?

Mind Over Mutant looks like it has more platforming, does it feel more like Crash than Titans did?
>>
>>11689923
I agree with this guy about everything except for TTR. That game gets way too much hate. It's no masterpiece, but it's pretty good. Some of the most fun couch co-op ever.
>>11692480
also this.
>>
WoC: underrated as all hell, i loved it, it wasn’t quite as good as warped but it’s close to me
TS: i don’t get the love, the ost was cool and the idea was sound but it’s extremely short, full of bugs, is clearly unfinished and has some shit level design. I’d like a remaster though
CotT: it’s pretty fun but feels like a spinoff without a ton of platforming
CMoM: a better CooT with more fun gimmicks platforming and feels like a metroidvania at times

Didn’t play the racing ones
>>
Crash only had one good game, Crash Team Racing
>>

Where did this joke come from?

>PS2 kart racers
The lowliest genre. It doesn’t matter what console generation, if you don’t have a Nintendo then you are getting a z-grade kart racer.
>>
I played the one where you ride monsters and to this day I don't know if it was Mind Over Mutant or Crash of the Titans, I confuse the two every single time and do not know which is which.
I saw the Mind Over Mutant cover one day and was like "yeah I beat this game", then I realized there was another game (Crash of Titans) that from the title could've been the same game I played and was like "Wait, what?"

Anyway, I beat TagTeam Racing and the one you control and ride monsters.
>>
>>11689765
>And don't get me started on the giant ball, fuck that shit.

I think the ball levels in WoC are the only decent vehicle levels in that game.
>>
>>11689492
Hot take but CNK (PS2) is the worst by virtue of there already being a perfect kart racer that they could copy and expand on, and instead ruined every single goddam thing.
>>
>>11689492
>WoC
I have a particular bias against this one because I was so hype for it. It was the main reason I wanted a PS2. In the end it was just a slower, darker and over all lamer version of Warped. It's not a terrible game but it is very forgettable. The boss fights were the worst part. Instead of a loveable cast of goofball villains with unique play styles it's the same shitty Dill Pickles new character each time. Also the loading times were horrible.
>CNK
WoC killed my love for the series so I didn't even bother with this one until many years later when it was in the bargain bin. Like the above it's just a worse version of CTR. Dill Pickles is now a member of the main cast.
>TS
Had the makings of an all time classic and the game that briefly rekindled my love for this series. It did something new without fucking up the tight platforming and silly Looney Tunes inspired visuals that made the series great. It is a bit short and has some glitches although I think this criticism is overblown. I've 100%'d this game more than once and and I can only recall a few times where I got killed by glitches. The unskippable cutscenes are admitted very annoying. The soundtrack is top notch.
>CTTR
This is where the series goes from hit and miss to shit. Pointless over world with shitty platforming combined with bad racing mechanics. Any challenge goes out the window the second you realize clashing with N Gin means you auto win every race. This also marks the beginning of Crash changing from a mute halfwit to a babbling retard.
>CotT and MoM
Fuck these games. These aren't Crash Bandicoot games. The redesigns are atrocious, the gameplay is boring and repetitive, and Crash now goes full retard. The only redeeming factor is the cutscenes in MoM but since those can be found on YouTube there is no point in touching this garbage now.
>>
>>11689492
Twinsanity is great, even original ND devs liked it. CNK and and WOC are so-so. CTTR was fun as a kid. The mutant games are just bloody awful.
