The people that translated Team Innocent just posted a poll on their discord to gauge interest levels for PC-FX translations: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe-t0PszxD_Uvn1pkvBp7fglDIQ5e2tRe7R6qpOuiPBH7YkEA/viewform?usp=header

Why?

PC-FX was a slightly better PC Engine, not a "too dee powerhouse" like the competing consoles. If 2D fighters had trouble running on Saturn, they had no chance in hell to work on PC-FX.

I guess they expected lot of fighting franchises jumping in since it meant to be the ultimate 2D powerhouse.
>>
>>11691052
The next mainline Tengai Makyou coming out on Saturn was a way bigger betrayal than Final Fantasy VII coming out on PlayStation.

Team Innocent was literally the only PCFX game I wanted translated lmao

why? Anglique still doesn't have one and thats a wildly influential game. There's also Doukyusei 2 and some eroge

Not with that the most stiff d-pad in history, it does not feel like the DUO-RX pad at all.
Anyways the magnum opus rpg of the system is Miraculum the last revelation 50+hour game same devs as Startling Oddyssey . Still the game has one problem, it is one of those games where you have long voiced segments without dialogue boxes.
So for a easier translation id pick Boundary Gate also shorter around 20-30 hours. Really cool artwork in the game too.

NEC Avenue (who developed real pce games not anime dogshit) was based and redpilled, and then they got folded into the cringe NEC interchannel in 1995
there's a rumor NEC forbade hudson from developing non-FMV games for pc-fx

personally, i would like a translation of the FMV fightans Battle Heat and Tengai Makyo Karakuri Kenkakuden.

probably it wont help people actually playing those games, but i feel those games deserve more exposure.

It's crazy how many games have been translated in general, over the decades. And still so many more to come
>>
>>11691608
Careful, that's the signal for some faggot from reddit to come in here and mindlessly drone about all the good Japanese games being translated already
>>
>>11691523
the snes fanboys already translated the (inferior) snes version so this will never happen
>>
I like elf so I'd like to see Dragon Knight 4 and Dōkyūsei 2, but the resolution drop from porting to PC-FX really doesn't do those games any favors. If I play those games, I'd like to play them on PC-98.

>>11691104
You should. Angelique is awesome.

There's speculation that PC-FX was initially supposed to have polygonal rendering capabilities (as evidenced by the PC-FX GA card for PCs), but that made the console prohibitively expensive, so NEC probably made a decision to stripe it down a bit, with possibility of selling 3D graphics hardware as an addon later. The system did have the best video decoder of its generation, so it wasn't completely toothless.
>>
>>11691029
They designed it to be a 2D powerhouse and were mechanically incentivizing developers to go in the fighting game direction.
>>
>>11691237
saturn was owned in the west but not japan so it holds

>Angelique
Why bother with the PC-FX versions over the PS ones. Especially 1 when Duet exists.
>>
>>11692867
Honestly, this. A lot of games on the list have PlayStation or Saturn versions, and translating those would bring games to a much wider audience than if they get stuck on the platform emulated only by the deepest nerds.
>>
>>11692867
because we don't know if somebody will translate that after this long of it not being translated and here is a group that might actually do the pc-fx version. I still wish tokimeki memorial pc engine got a translation instead of snes version but even that game didnt despite its fame

I voted for all the Angelique games except Duet 1 since someone is currently doing the DS version of it and they seem pretty far along. Also I've already played the SFC version of 1 with the script translation that's online, so I don't feel any particular urgency to go back to it.

The cpu and graphics chip were badly bottlenecked by having slow access to memory according to a video of the 1 guy doing homebrew for it. The graphics chip could do cool things but likely wouldn't have had amazing 2d games even if it was successful. It has a lot of pc engine hardware in it so I personally think it would be possible to make some kind of conversion software for it, I've had one for ages but haven't been able to find a voltage adaptor for it. Still it would have been capable of some pretty nice shooters.

Yea, likely NEC got scared by costs, and decided to cut it down, unlike Sega, who pushed onward with Saturn.

>We gotta play the PC-FX strengths before lauching the 3D accelerator addon
>This causes game development costs to skyrocket because developers are forced to hire animation studios for the FMVs
>All those Japanese PC oriented game developers which also made games for the PC Engine are like yeah fuck this
>Certain genres such as arcade ports/style aren't even viable anymore on the platform, due to this the game that eventually became Sapphire was used to demonstrate PC-FX hardware was moved back to PC ENGINE DUO albeit with the arcade pro card
The PC-FX could have easily had at least around 300+ games if it wasn't for this retarded ass policy. Still the system has a certain charm to it a real gen 4.5 system. What's interesting is that everything required for backwards compatibility with PCE even SuperGRAFX is there on the motherboard.

I like how the PS-X is just chilling over on the side article, with no one thinking any wiser of its impeding dominance. No seriously, there was so much bullshit 32-bitr hardware in development at this point, that Sony slipped into the market almost unnoticed. There was far more hype around the Saturn and Ultra 64/ Project Reality at that point in time.

>>11694360
>Yea, likely NEC got scared by costs, and decided to cut it down, unlike Sega, who pushed onward with Saturn.

There is an empty expansion bay in the PC-FX that was suppose to house a 3D accelerator card. But that never happened.
