So was the DKC cartoon a good show or what?
wrong board but not really, it just has some really funny songs
>>11693393>I'd shower you with coconut cream pies.
>>11693393I'M NOBODY'S HEROOO
>>11693393And an incredible King K. Rool.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENIN TOO ME*jet engines grow louder*
i'm gonna miss these niggas like you wouldn't believe
>>11693386it was canadian teletoon slop.
>>11693386It was horrible and racist that they made DK black r&b singer for being a monkey
>>11693862my favorite kind of slop
>>11693386I didn't like the little I saw as a kid because I thought it was too different from the games. But I really like the songs now.

>>11693386He got DONG
>>11693862>>11693869Sloppy DiC?
>>11693386It has some meme moments, its goofy and hard to hate, though it also has some baffling decisions like the Candy Kong redesign, or Diddy Kong's voice.>>11693480Agree with this though, easily the best K. Rool voice
the local news had a segment about this show and its motion capture technology and i was hyped to watch it but it never aired in Minnesotanow i can watch it but i won't because it's not good
>>11693974nelvana
>>11694121Oh yea... It's a shame what happened to them. They had some real talent in the mid 80's.
>>11693386it's funny in hindsight how there's an episode where everyone gets an infectious disease because diddy is a jab dodger
Candy is a fucking bitch on this show.
>>11693386It's a weird, cheap, experimental show. You know how the characters look like they're constantly shaking a little bit? They didn't 3D animated it normally, they had performers in rigs that mapped their actions in real time to the characters. The idea is that you dont hvae to animate shows at all, the actors and computer wizardry does it.Other than that, it's middle of the road. It's not offensive, it creates some new okay characters, but it's not especially memorable. The most baffling shit is the god damn singing and songs. Who thinks of musicals when they see Donkey Kong? And most of the stories are these faggy stories about DK wanting Candy to like him and he mopes around like a fag without any ape pussy. This was the tail-end of Nintendo letting random Western studios make tv shows based on their works. Why for the life of me, didn't Nintendo let proper Japanese animation studios make Mario, Zelda, and DKC, shows? They eventually did a Kirby show that was pretty good and looked nice.
>>11694518>Candy is a fucking bitch on this show.yeah, i fucking noticed even as a kid. Candy's bf is the one hero who is single handedly keeping the island free from a militant invading force and she's this prissy primadona who only cares about DK worshipping her all the time and flips out for mundane bullshit. I guess they saw Candy and DK and then decided relationship drama is the way to go?So compare this to something like the disney Aladdin or Tailspin, which were also adventure shows with a bit of romance and relationships, but were better written and better animated.
>>11694621>The most baffling shit is the god damn singing and songs. Who thinks of musicals when they see Donkey Kong?considering the songs are the best and most memorable part of the show I think their experiment paid off
>>11694621>Who thinks of musicals when they see Donkey Kong?I mean I do now thanks to this show. Maybe the logic was pirates sing sea shanties and the Kremlin's are pirates... maybe
>>11694637>>11694660Remember, the people who are tasked to make shit like this do not play games and are just handed a sheet of character designs and story beats. Their background is likely watching Disney films, so for them animation = musicals.
>>11693386It's my favorite video game cartoon after Earthworm Jim, which is perhaps the only actually "good" video game cartoon, but DK had so much charm to it that I never really minded the asinine stories that relied too much on the characters being willing to turn on each other at the slightest, least logical misunderstanding. The cast were all wonderful and I can't hear K. Rool, Cranky, or Funky any other way. The pipes on DK are legitimately legendary and he will never see enough work or recognition for his singing talents. The first season looked great for what it was and trying for some semblance of the game's style. I've always just had a chill time watching that Curse of the Crystal Coconut VHS compilation movie, even with it being edited together so carelessly that at one point Diddy has a flashback to events that actually transpire in the next segment. I rented that tape so much that I made sure to buy it off the video store when they went out of business and had to sell everything. A piece of my childhood I'll have forever, past even the means to play the damn tape anymore.
>>11693386It's bad but worth it for the memes
>>11696205I'll also say though that the computer animation is pretty good for a TV show of the time. If you compare it to Beast Wars it's not bad at all
>>11693386I had the crystal coconut movie on tape as a kid and watched it often. I could never find the show on tv though.
>>11696209Beast Wars is pretty much the same show but actually well written if you think about it.
>>11696210I actually saw it on Fox Kids just once but I'm fairly sure it was actually a straight airing of that "movie" because I remember the tacked-on narration there. The VHS was all I ever found of the show until the Internet.
>>11696217So lame, cool someone else had my same experience because it was a bummer that tape was all we had.
>>11693480>>11694036https://youtube.com/watch?v=1eggzBAzCZgAnyone reading this thread is probably already familiar with this but everyone needs a chance to learn about this beautiful fan tribute that got the voice actor for K. Rool back (among others).
>>11696254At least it had most of the pirate episodes on there. Can't go wrong with Skurvy. I think the best episode of the series overall is the one where everyone winds up on a treasure hunt in the mines after DK finds an old map.
TO KNOW EVERYTHING, YOU MUST GIVE UP EVERYTHING
>>11693393>>11693446>>11693448I like that one where K.Rool's henchman plays sad piano part, singing how he has no family to spend time with. The sheer absurdity of villain's minion getting a touching musical number in a cheap 90s CGI show makes it infinitely good
>>11696261Surprisingly good, it's nice seeing the kremlings being remembered and getting some love.
>>11694051Are you sure? I grew up in Mankato and I remember seeing the show as a kid, though it could have been the VHS "movie"
>>11697051Precisely. You get it. That was even the Christmas special, too.
