discuss what gameplay mods you use to make Oblivion playable
am using MOO (overhaul to unfuck level scaling shit and other stuff)
Ultimate Leveling (fuck the ''you need to sleep to level up'' mechanic)
Dynamic Oblivion Combat (melee combat overhaul)
Ay Levat Magic (magic overhaul)
but i can use a reccomendation for a good archery mod if you know any
>>
I used OOO + a double damage for everyone mod, and suddenly Oblivion was actually fun to explore

Ew, why would anyone want to play base Oblivion?

Skyblivion is coming out towards the end of the year so personally I’m waiting to do another playthrough when that drops. The latest preview they’ve shown makes my dick throb, I can’t wait. It fixes the level scaling issue of the world which is Oblivion’s main issue and everything else is looking like a massive improvement. Unique weapons and armor are now actually unique visually. Leveling system/birth sign is all the same. I can’t believe the game I’m most excited for in 2025 is a fan recreation of a game from 2006. I’m in double disbelief that Bethesda has allowed their flagship property to stagnate so long that modders are making the blockbuster games they won’t.
>>
>>11695864
That's a lot of shit. I'm out.
>>
>>11695938
saddly Skyblivion will only be covering the base game without Shievering Isles

OOO adds too much original content. If it didn’t do that it would be the best.

If you don't mind the graphics just download the unofficial patches You already have Av Latta Magicka and XP mod, should be fine.
Kvatch rebuilt is kinda fun though.
>>
>>11695970
My first and only 100% playthrough of Oblivion was unmodded
Modding games just break the soul of the game.
A greasy fat modder know nothing about games.

The expansions are coming according to the devs, but they want the base game out first. I much rather have the base game this year than wait another year or two for the dlcs. By then I’ll wait to play through it again a few more times.
>>
>>11695982
The level scaling is horrendous in Oblivion and has been its number one criticism since it came out. If you don’t min-max your levels, every basic enemy is as powerful as you are (or stronger) and you’ll start seeing lowly bandits spawn as tanks with god-tier gear. Having dynamic enemy levels and weapons and spells that actually do damage improves the game tenfold.

Ascension. It's the closest to a "JSawyer's mod" for Oblivion and is also when their game's started really needing them.
>>
>>11695834
I don't use any mods because the game is literally perfect you faggot.

According to the nebulous rules about PC this is retro. Too late to try and change the rules because Xbox 360 turns 20 this year so if you hate this, you’re really going to hate what’s going to happen to the board next.
>>
>>11696069
Three whole boards dedicated to Bethesda games. Can't wait

>Kvatch Rebuilt
is it good? never tried quest mods before
>>
>>11695982
I would agree with that, but this is Bethesda.
>>
>>11696072
It’s why from the get go DirectX9 games shouldn’t have been allowed for PC. Since they couldn’t do a hardware cutoff point for PC, they should have done a specifications cutoff and DirectX 8.1 would have been that perfect cutoff.

>level scaling is horrendous in Oblivion
Good thing I wasn't an MMORPG guy before I played Oblivion, because all this hate for level scaling comes from the MMORPG concept.
Think of it this way: the entire world is organic and levels up along with you. You're not the only one getting stronger, you're the only one finding better items, and you're not the center of attention. "Crazy that a bandit uses daedric gear?" he earned that items just like you did.
I feel sorry for every brainrot mmorpg individual who will never get to experience Oblivion like I did. It was a magical experience.
>>
>>11696140
The game is the same difficulty all the way through no matter what you do and eventually you encounter wolves while you’re in your end-game gear swinging your end-game sword and they tank hits in exactly the same manner as when you first escaped the prison.

I might be more worried when a few certain FromSoftware games are also considered "retro".
>>11696149
Morrowind also had certain things scaled by level (like this bozo) but it wasn't as blantant, most NPCs were set, and you could run into places underleveled. When I think of "MMO leveling" I think of the clearly marked-by-level zone progression.
>>
>>11696156
Yeah, Morrowind was more dynamic and unpredictable therefore more engaging. That other guy I am pretty sure is trolling because nobody likes the level scaling in oblivion. Oblivion did everything right except for that.
>>
>>11696076
It's alright.
>>
my favorite mod is the one that disables running backwards to make combat more interesting
also darker darkness/dungeons to make torches more fun
better cities is good but some of it looks silly (the upper level of the market district) and the few unfinished quests annoy me
>>
>>11696313
i should try that disabled backstep mod, if i ever decide to tard wrangle nearly a hundred mods ever again
>>
>>11696313

i'm a simple man and just remove the limit on trainers. don't have to macro grind in a corner for hours, can keep up with the scaling enemies, and gold doesn't become useless halfway through the playthrough.

Those are bullshots under dramatic lighting conditions. Ingame they look a lot more vanilla with fixed proportions and way better beast races.
>>
>>11697957
Even though I have my criticisms of Oblivion, the faces aren’t among them. They are literally perfect and the source of the game’s soul.
>>
>>11696047
I respect someone playing with no mods but saying the game is perfect is laughable. Its one of the most imperfect, shitty vanilla experiences in history. Its an RPG where you cant level your character, how absurd.
>>
>>11697974
It sold like hotcakes on xbawks 3shitty and elevated Bethesda to cultural legends. I'm not even joking. Oblivion was a good game for it's time, before we split the WRPG genre right open and exposed what needed to be fixed.
>>
>>11697979
obviously it was popular, as a walk around the city and marvel at the vistas sim. When you get to the gameplay systems and rpg elements its miserable.

>>11698774
Raw Oblivion is definitely an amazing game and I put hundreds of hours on it during its release on 360, but to suggest modifying its level scaling to be dynamic as a negative is just being purist for purism’s sake. It makes the game twice as fun to play without taking away what makes oblivion “oblivion”.
>>
>>11698860
Play through the vanilla game first then mod it all you want. You're advocating for pussy ass coward shit.
>>
>>11698871
I would still recommend a mod to fix the level scaling because it makes the game better with no downsides. If you don’t fix the level scaling, you straight up do not level up in this game. It will be exactly as difficult if you never rest and never level up or level up and hit the cap, it doesn’t matter. In fact, I bet the game is easier if you never level up because random bandits aren’t going to spawn with fucking god tier gear.
