We had a few decent titles based on Alien/Aliens over the years, my favorite's probably Alien 3 on Game Boy, by Bits Studios, as it really captured the feel the franchise's meant to give in my eyes, fear, but some action too as you fight back and try to survive against such an impossible threat to counter... however, it seems the better Alien titles over the years weren't really the official ones, but ones that took some inspiration from the franchise. I'd say Metroid and Contra are likely the best examples, though I'm sure there are plenty of others ones. This thread is about just that, let's talk about the Alien/Aliens video games that did more justice to the IP than the officially licensed ones, despite only being inspired, I want more titles with this sort of mood and aesthetic to get both my horror and action retro fix for the day.
Metroid Fusion
Alien Breed.a little bit of Gauntlet in there, mixed with some Paradroid. I played it a lothttps://youtu.be/CfZtX8Vj4s0?feature=shared
Contra...? I never get to talk about these. Also Metroid Prime and Echoes
Rebelstar 2. A proto-xcom (made by the actual x-com guy!) where you land a squad of marines on the xeno homeworld to steal a bunch of their eggs. The xenomorphs fight using swords and bows, but that only makes it more awesome.IIRC this was only released as a cover tape for some Spectrum magazine.
>>11697424In a similar vain, Incubation, which was a spin-off of the Battle Isle series, an xcom-like where the enemies resembled xenomorphs. I remember this being maddeningly difficult, though not in the same way as x-com. This was game was more puzzle-like. It felt like every level had a specific way it was designed to be beaten and I wasn't a big fan of that. I'll still take this over almost any licensed Alien game.
>>11697431>This was game was more puzzle-like. It felt like every level had a specific way it was designed to be beaten and I wasn't a big fan of thatYes. But this was an amazing game.Somehow I enjoyed how weary the narrator sounds in mission descriptions.Did you try out the extension pack called The Wilderness Missions? I've heard it's even harder.
>>11697431>I remember this being maddeningly difficultYeah, it's easier when you specialize each unit in different weapons, but still very challenging.Alien Shooter games are pretty horroresque for a nearly brainless swarm shooters. Especially on harder difficulties with scarcer resources and health.
I like Enemy Infestation.
>>11696312SEGA's Alien Syndrome is another good example, it's also fun how it plays similar to Alien 3 on Game Boy, with a top down perspective, but it's all about rescuing your crew, like the other versions of Alien 3. Also, the Master System version has the Xenomorph ripoff right on the cover. NES is probably the best port since you can play as a woman, which feels fitting here.P.S. Samus is still the best thing to come out of any Alien inspired franchise in video games.
>>11698254Samus is great. Every part of her body is so beautiful.Especially her right thumb. I don't know why that specific digit, but it's always what I've been really drawn to.
Retro Studios is gay as fuck for making her look butch under the armor
Can't forget Project: Firestart.
>>11698927This reminds me of that C64 title that came out recently, Organism, perhaps they took inspiration from this to make it.
>>11699018Maybe. It looks like it could be inspired by multiple things. The map screen looks like it was taken directly from Paradroid. The graphics also give me a bit of an Astroclone vibe.
>>11698919>this is "butch"Go outside, tranny.
>>11698919>Imaishi/Gainax retard calling anything gay as fuckPrime 1 learns to realism a lot but it's no where your average leftist understanding of what's considered butch female. In fact, a butch Samus would learn more to surrealism and would be more unappealing than what they attempted and remastered.
>>11699853NTA but Samus should look better.
>>11700395>scat artistYou clearly don't have any good suggestions.
