Anyone wanna talk about these games? I really like how both Tiberian Sun and Starcraft have numerous things inspired by Dune II. Yeah, Warcraft and C&C1 were first, and most of my points apply to them too, but SC and TibSun being sci fi really feel like proper successors. In Starcraft you have:>Upgrades, production and building done by clicking on the structures>Specific buildings to allow production of specific units, less streamlined tech tree than C&C>Usage of command menu and hotkeys>Unit cap and smaller armies>Korhal tileset in BW looks like ArrakisTiberian Sun has>Most of the C&C stuff that was taken from Dune II, like MCVs, harvesters, silos, power plants, repair bays, tanks, buggies etc>Dune II references that were new for a C&C game: a nomadic faction who sides with the good guys, concrete plates, sonic tanks, cluster missle superweapon, carryalls, exploding tiberiumI first played Dune II back in 1995 and while later C&C and Red Alert were cool, only Starcraft and Tiberian Sun could bring back similar vibe. Still play both a lot. I think sometimes people forget that SC is not just an e-sports discipline but a wholesome space fantasy. No such problem with Tiberian Sun for obv reasons.
>>11998524That Emperor game was not bad too but I wish it was 2D
>>11998524i'm not able to make the jump from dune2 to these isometric ones. the dune graphics are like satellite imagery, all later ones are like a cluttery game view
>>11998524>a nomadic faction who sides with the good guysAint that the StarCraft Dark Templar too?
>>11998558Funny thing about Starcraft is that the graphics are isometric but the actual game grid is not. It's still the same top down grid from Waecraft 2.
>>11998559You're right. Though fremen and forgotten have more in common.
>>11998524What about Dune 2000
>>11998524Loved the RTS Dune franchise. But I'd really like to see a Dune RTS version that puts a real threat in terms of sandworms and sandstorms. Also perhaps the sheer expanse of the open desert as being dangerous to cross. I feel that someone could potentially mod this but alas nothing yet.Anyone else wish to share some cool dune ideas that they think could or should be implemented?
>>11999191>Dune rts ideasGenerally, I want to see rts revived and especially the Dune series because it’s due for a comeback, and there will never be a better time than now because of the attention the new films have received, whether or not they are objectively good.>a real threat in terms of sandworms and sandstormsGreat idea. Could be triggered or random events. I’d like to see more ideas from the novels make it in there, along with a more detailed story/campaign mode.
is generals retro?
>>11999947Yep
>>11999968Serving China's neets.

>>11998558For me it's 2D vs 3D. I absolutely hate early 3D rts graphics, like those of WC3. Especially humanoid units and portraits. SC2 was the first one that looked decent in 3D, but still not as cool as SC1.
>>11998524Dark Reign 1 shits on these games hard, and the AI has to be the most advanced shit ever made in a RTS game that no one has replicated til this day.
>>12000178Sell me on DR1, anon. I tried it once and it looked like a C&C95 clone to me. What's so great about it?
>>12000178>Dark Reign 1Lol
>>11998524How the FUCK did you forget TA?
>>12000727It ain't as soulful and wholesome
>>12000192>>12000374>>12000724https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xE6eqzPYOwQits one hour, but really, activision had the dream team in the late 90's whom became pandemic.>>12000910by your parameters, starcraft, dune II and cnc are for normalfags like (you) OP
>>12000919Every rts game is for normalfags, retard
For me, it's Super Dune 2.
this fucking sucks
>>12000727I really like TA gameplay but the whole setting, plot and units are so forgettable. I barely can tell one unit from another without clicking on them
