You need to get familiar with x86 assembly first. Then my main tools for reverse-engineering are IDA 5, NekoProject 2 with debugger, and an hex editor.
For PC-98 hardware (BIOS, I/O ports, graphics...) I use Japanese websites like https://radioc.web.fc2.com or http://software.aufheben.info/contents.html?contents_key=oohpc_menu

I've noticed that No-Intro has recently added a bunch of homebrews from SMS Power to their Master System catalogue and I want to shout out Pac-Man Master Museum. It's a compilation of games including Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Pac-Man Plus and the hypothetical Ms. Pac-Man Plus, featuring arcade-accurate ghost behavior, difficulty settings and optional fast speed mode. A very enjoyable way to play the games on a horizontal screen.

Any recent decent SMW hacks? No kaizo shit. I like if they stick to a theme like Peach's Adventure
>>

>a theme like Peach's Adventure
mentally ill zoomer fat-fetishist in denial is not a "theme"

Standard hack with standard difficulty you won't get filtered by? The My Melody hacks aren't bad.

>>12018680
thanks mate i'll try it out

So I've recently jumped into a 2 disc Japanese game that thankfully found fan translation for and i only had 1 patch file. I figured I just reuse the same patch on disc 2, correct?

Kino.

I saw it too on SMS Power some days ago.
LackOfTrack, the homebrew's author, also confirmed that Jr. Pac-Man will be added to the game in a future update.

Great news. I love the 2008 homebrew port of Jr. Pac-Man for Atari 7800, would be great to see the game on a more powerful console.

Out of curiosity, if I were to make sprites for /vr/, what other OCs would (you) like to see?

If it will happen you could contribute some sprites for that SMB3 /v/ collab that might happen at the end of the year if the organizer lets you import custom graphics.

Thats gonna be a huge problem as there's not a single fucking SMB3 graphic editor that SMB1 had.

MSDOS rather than console but we did a li'l thing over at /ovg/. Whiplash/Fatal Racing is now fully decompiled and running natively in modern OSes. https://github.com/FatalDecomp/ROLLER

Also got a track editor https://github.com/FatalDecomp/TrackEditor

Wondering if anyone's ever replaced the .xa files in the oddly musicless US version of Robo-Pit 2 with the Japanese version? Apparently they're just dummy files in the US version, and it's like they cheaped out on music licensing weirdly, not that a license to publish a game shouldn't come with music. Seems like an easy romhack that should've been done, people dig customising robots.

I believe that organizer was working on one within the editor itself, although I can't confirm it since I only saw it once but it did get posted either in here on /v/ a few months ago.
