>>12285030I'm DOOMING
I just remembered that Judge Dredd TC which may still be dead but I wondered if anyone thought of mods based on other 2000AD series like Strontium Dog or Rogue Trooper.Or something like Samsara but the cast is different characters like Dredd, Johnny Alpha, Rogue, Hammerstein, Nemesis, Slaine etc.A contrast to Marvel and DC characters being in fighting games.
>>12285026>I actually respect those who approach maps from a strategic standpoint and learn how to minimize the chance of death via strategic cheesing like that. It's my favourite way to play. I love a map that looks awful until you figure out the key to unlock and trivialize it. And I love optimizing all the risk out of the game. I am a terribly boring person, though.>I absolutely maintain that the map requiring the non-Godlike player to take the time to work out a proper route to consistently beat it is part of its difficulty, though.Okay that is true. I regret implying that pl32 is easy. I simply assert that it is not one of the two hardest maps in plutonia.Assuming full map knowledge, I can clear pl32 with a success rate of over 80%. But with full map knowledge, my success rate of clearing, say, pl25, is less than 20%. Last time I was doing UV pistol-start clearances of plutonia maps I got stuck on map25 for days and needed dozens of restarts. I can usually clear pl32 in one or two tries; in fact I usually use pl32 as one of the first maps to try out some new gameplay mod. (Almost said "one of the go-to maps" there before realising the excruciating pun.) It doesn't seem like a challenge any more, more of a romp.
>>12285069>I love optimizing all the risk out of the game. That's exactly how I play.
>>12285069>pl25I don't recall having too much trouble with this one when I did my single-segment-each-map playthrough of Plutonia. What part of it gives you the most trouble?
>>12285051When due process fails us, we really do live in a world of doom
>>12285108Right so you start in a mazey pit surrounded by sergeants on ledges. There is no immediate defence available and only one way out of the maze via a staircase up to the ledges. There are three weapons on the ground at dead ends in the maze but if you go for them you will get shot up.You have to run immediately for the stairs, and hope to pistol one of the sergeants and steal his weapon, then get into the only bit of cover now available, the side tunnel that has a backpack and some health potions in it.Now you have to carefully pick off the sergeants as they appear. You are already low on health, and have no armor, very few shells, and a handful of bullets. You limp out of this with some guns but likely <50% health. You find a chaingunner in an alcove, with a single medikit. That's all the health you've seen so far. There's no armor. You also find another weapon, the rocket launcher, along with two revenants and a bunch of imps. Then you open a hut with two hellknights, a baron, and a teleporter. You kill these, slowly with the super shotgun because you need your rockets for the next bit. This part is not difficult, but can go badly if unlucky, and again due to absence of health, mistakes are not forgiven. At this point I'm probably already at less than 40% survival rate because the crowd of sergeants is so random. I have to kill everything because you can't backtrack, and I need to play perfectly and take no damage, so it's exhausting. Then you teleport to part two.
>>12285123>Then you teleport to part two.Part two has you in a cramped symmetrical space with a baron, and (upon moving) a bunch of hellknights, and chaingunners guarding switches hiding in alcoves. These must all be killed (no backtracking, remember) likely with rockets, all the while one false move getting you cornered and dead.If I've cleared part two, I'm likely now at a 25% survival rate of reaching part three (which is more like parts three, four, five, and six, but technically is all one area)So I teleport to part three.
>>12285119Wait a minute...
Happy new year /doom/!
>>12285127>So I teleport to part three.I'm less familiar with part three because I hardly ever reach it so it's easy to do it in the wrong order and waste resources. But first you have to deal with teleporting and being surrounded by zombies in cages, so you immediately have to dash into cover which I hope you know exactly where it is and where to move at first. At this point anyway you have more choice of where to go. It eases up a little for a moment if you can get into the cage round the back and get the blue armour. At least now you have some defense. All right I'm tired of describing this as a play-by-play. I hope you get the idea. Part three has the clamber around a lava lake, with more hitscan, and it's really easy to fall off the staircase on the way down. It also has a bit where you have to jump into a lava bath and dodge revenants to grab a megasphere and radsuit, then kill them and a bunch of mancubi, and various monsters hidden in walls, all before the radsuit runs out. It's clear the Casalis weren't completionists.I needed three attempts or so to do part three, and since I only reached that far in about one in five attempts, the whole thing took dozens of tries, replaying annoying shit over and over, having to play perfectly not getting damage because there's no recovery from it, getting frustrated because I've just done this damn part already but died in the next one so now I have to do it again even though I did it perfectly last time. I hope you can understand how this is frustrating. It's one thing to fail, it's another thing to pass and still have to repeat because you failed a later thing. So I hope that enlightened you, thank you for the question.>>12285108
I know what I'm playing the fourth episode with.
>>12285138>half-life guaranteed apparentlyepisode 3 is back on the menu boys
>>12285123>You have to run immediately for the stairsYou don't. You can actually just leave lol. You can immediately run for the area where the entrance to the temple is, grab the rocket launcher there, take care of the revenants/spectres, kill a chaingunner with the rocket launcher, then use the chaingun to fuck up all the sergeants.>>12285127>Part two has you in a cramped symmetrical space with a baron, and (upon moving) a bunch of hellknights, and chaingunners guarding switches hiding in alcoves. You can partially cheese this part by taking advantage of rockets' infinite height splash damage to kill two of the hell knights before they pop up, making this fight much easier.
>>12285139>It also has a bit where you have to jump into a lava bath and dodge revenants to grab a megasphere and radsuit, then kill them and a bunch of mancubi, and various monsters hidden in walls, all before the radsuit runs out. This was the part I remember being the most difficult.I last played through Plutonia a couple of years ago so I don't remember this super well, but I'm quite sure I didn't die here more than once or twice at the most when attempting to single-segment the map after I had worked out all my strats by playing with saves. This map would have stood out in my mind as being more difficult had I died a lot here or on this map in general.
>>12285143>You don't. You can actually just leave lol.Hmm I'll try that next time, there's no hitscan in that part so it might work. But not many rockets either. Offence is so limited at the start.>>12285143>[...]kill two of the hell knights before they pop upYeah I do that. But it requires more patience than just moving off the teleporter pad. (It's easier to accidentally move and trigger the release when one does not use zero vertical mouse sensitivity. Please don't recommend I turn off vertical mouse sensitivity.) Usually at that point I'm already frustrated so my brain is being irrational and forcing me to move on faster.
>>12285154>But not many rockets either. It's not that hard to get the revenants to infight with the spectres.>vertical mouse sensitivityWat? Elaborate. Do you mean you're playing with freelook, or do you mean you're playing with the mouse making your dude move backward and forward?
>>12285138>already playing doom lol>autistic thinking intended>anon posting video>retard reasons>retarded super person>monsters might agree>happy pain liked>pistol better bad
>>12285158>It's not that hard to get the revenants to infight with the spectres. But can be tedious. Remember the map has already sapped my patience.>Wat? Elaborate. Do you mean you're playing with freelook, or do you mean you're playing with the mouse making your dude move backward and forward? The latter. (I know it's extremely old-fashioned.)
>>12285171>The latter.Haha.I'm going to recommend that you......wait for it......stop doing that.
>>12285172Haha indeed. At this point rewriting 25 years of muscle memory is not going to happen. Left/right/use on keyboard, fire/forwards on mouse buttons and turn/walk on mouse axes is how my brain works. WASD or some equivalent cursor-keys-mimicking shape to do both left/right and forwards/backwards on the same hand is not, no matter how much I've tried it. My motor skills do not seem to be wired that way. I have my theories on why this is, a consequence of the typical keyboard controls in the games on the home computer systems I grew up with, but I already feel I've drifted too far into the realm of personal information, so I'm going to shut up now. Thanks for an entertaining chat. I'll definitely try running away for the rocket launcher at the start next time I feel like redoing Plutonia. (I did eventually get a uv-max recording of the map so technically I never need to play it again, but, you know, if ever.)
>>12285194How do you keep moving forward? Do you have to lift your mouse off the pad?
>>12285209nvm I'm retarded you just said how.

>>12284845Hey anon, made a post suggesting Tesefy's DE auto shotgun but didn't realize the thread was already on its deathbed. Here it is, in case you want to use it. It was pretty annoying to actually find it.

>>12285209>>12285214All good, mate.Yeah, right mouse button. I used to have middle for running backwards, but it was awkward and didn't see much use. Then scroll wheels came into fashion and made middle mouse that much harder to press and hold down, so I gave up.I have a run backwards key, but only for occasional use, it doesn't typically have a finger resting on it.

Which doom wad reminds you most of your high school teachers
>>12285670None. Strange question to ask, what makes .wads remind you of yours?
>>12285670Freedoom v0.5 and Greenwar played through Doom Legacy, because they were easy to download and set up on school computers, and once I proved that they were free and open source, they didn't cause our computer teacher to flip out and moralfag about piracy.
>>12285382Do you play any other FPS? Do you use mousewalking for that too, or only for Doom?Personally, I think that mousewalking works absolutely EXCELLENTLY for Wolfenstein 3D, hyper smooth and hyper precise, because the nature of that game doesn't get in the way of it at all (no inertia, no height difference, all spaces are perfectly flat and and in even block increments). You really can move like a mouse cursor in that game, and that's one of those relatively unique aspects which I love about it, in spite of being a relatively simple shooter.
>>12285793lmao, some people.I remember when I was in 4th or 5th grade, one of my friends showed me Duke Nukem 3D on the computer in one of the teacher's lounges. It was just there, I guess one of the teachers at some point must have been hailing to the king.
>>12285806>lmao, some people.I was actually able to talk to him and reach a compromise, at least. As far as school teachers go, he could have been a lot worse.
>>12285793I had the opposite experience, one of my teachers came over to us at the end of a lesson where we'd been chattering away, and he said "were you talking about Lemmings?" and I thought "oh shit I'm in trouble" but it turned out he wanted a copy of it!
why is there no odamex appimage
GZslop ruined doom forever.
>>12285670>Which doom wad reminds you most of your high school teachersNothing 'Doom' related, but our PCs for architecture class had Q3 on them. We'd mess around in it for a few minutes near the end of class if we had finished our work.
>>12285842>PCs for architecture class had Q3 on themAs well as Radiant, I assume?
>>12285281I might use it, though the barrels don't rotate and to be honest I want to be lazy for this little project. I'll see what I can do with all this. Also if you're the same guy asking about if you can use those sprites, I have good news: They're not mine, Tesefy made this shotgun and I've just had it saved for a long ass time, lol.
>>12285835Nigga please, only about 10% wads per year are gzdoom exclusive. Thought I do have a problem with gzdoom map sets that do not use gzdoom features but require gzdoom. No slopes, no 3d geometry, no dynamic lights, no acs, no decorate, no zscript, just maps that are udmf for no reason, and so udmf that even dsda can't work around with them. I'd just rather play everything that I can with Nugget or dsda.
>>12285882>just maps that are udmf for no reasonare there even any worthwhile maps that do this?
>>12285889I don't know are they they udmf, but Azazel's Second Descent, Infernal Gladiator, Valis and Scorching Earth are all gzdoom exclusive megawads, while all of their content could be achieved on mbf21 without changing anything visually or in gameplay.
>>12285889And btw Scorching Earth is fucking good. It's basically Hellbound 2. Very awesome big city maps. Should work mostly on Nugget now, but some of the textures can't be displayed.
Where it fuck is Call Of The Void Jam, Sprony? Was supposed to come out before the end of the year. I need my Quake 2 content fix.
>>12285901Meh, same shit. Exclusive to port X or port Y is still exclusive. Keep it limit removing or Boom, in my humble opinion.

>>12286097it's the 18th release, you waste of oxygen
>>12286197Not him, but it is kinda weird to do release numbers rather than version numbers.
>>12286207What's the difference? They're both increasing sequences of integers.
>>12286225I feel like it's more common to see v1.0 or what have you rather that r10 on title screens or wherever they put the current version of the project.
>>12286228yeah and R18 is often associated with doujin circles
>>12286243i didn't know japan invented age ratings
>>12286207They switched to release numbers when they were going to do the final release and call it a day, they eventually came back and did more but kept on release numbers to not confuse it with the oldest shit.

>>12285238Damn what a shame, I guess you'll have to give up and leave.
Fucking sick, I finally know how to make Typhon's Hokuto Shinken only take ammo if you hit something. Always annoyed me that whiffing it still cost ammo.
I have a problem with slade map viewer, it doesn't show things. I can see their shadow on the flats but the red icon doesn't appear. How do I fix it?
Although I have no idea what the fuck this means. F_SKY1 isn't even a song, it's apparently a texture that the TEXTMAP refers to and I can't find anything about the Bivrost Overdrive trying to play it as a song, so I have no idea how to fix this and it annoys me. Oh wait what if I just copy one of the songs it's supposed to play and rename it to that. Stupid fix, but if it works...
>>12285857Fantastic, that looks like a very chunky shotgun. Would be at home in a Blame! type thing. As for the DE auto shotgun, the barrels do spin - but only as they fire, rather than when the gun is pumped. You could probably hack together some centered pumping frames with Amuscaria's shotgun hands, though?
Yep, Golden Souls, that's a quality WAD.
>>12286449Probably some kind of conflict, possibly mapinfo-induced.
>>12285248>>12285275>>12286360>>12286369Stop samefagging pls
>>12286582Nah, MAPINFO's pretty bare and I've CTRL+F'd F_SKY1 in everything that has text. But my dumb fix worked. I ended up ganking a few songs from Echidna and then copying some of Typhon's songs over to that to replace a few while I was at it.
Who are the best Doom YouTubers? I like zero master, decino, vytaan.Harder question who is your favorite Heretic/Hexen YouTuber?
>>12286684I'm kind of a fan of MtPain27. Sometimes I catch Deffers' VODs, but I actually don't really watch Doom content unless it's something I have no real intent on playing (like MyHouse.WAD).
>>12286684For finding stuff I might actually play I tend to find Clippy useful for maps since he come across stuff in his quest to just play everything regardless of who made it or how big it is.Similarly for gameplay mods I find Matt useful since he seems a lot more proactive at finding stuff since most of those types seem to look no further than scrolling the first page on the mod section on Doomworld/Zdoom/Moddb.
>>12286691MyHouse is actually quite good wad. It just managed to get idiotic mainstream fans outside the Doom community. Kinda like Brutal Doom 10-15 years ago. It neither wasn't a bad gameplay mod, but it just brought idiots to community. Now they've all grown too to be smarter.
>>12286684i only have my own company on heretic and hexen
>>12285835I would have maybe believed this about zdoom and derived ports back in the mid-late 2000's, back in the era of overhyped advanced port projects that typically fell flat. But then the 2010's had a huge vanilla renaissance and made me care about doom wads again.
>>12286552Nah. I got smart.
>>12286825>shotgun minigunThis makes my shotgun the super shotgun.
>>12286832It'll still work the same way as I posted earlier, so a merging between Shadow Warrior's riot gun and Final Doomer's Hellbound shotgun. Which is cool.Still chewing on what to do with the rocket launcher, like what should happen if the player holds the fire button and keeps shooting it? It has to be something more subtle and useful for vanilla fights.
ut3 poster and mtn dew code red
>>12286832Didn't some jokewad from the 90s feature a Shotgun-Chaingun or something, and it was absurdly powerful?
>>12286836Slight laser guidance?Like, not a high enough turn rate to stack up a ton of rockets during downtime and barrel through monsters (unless the map is fucking huge, I guess) but enough to steer them into that archvile at a distance who just won't sit still. Alternatively, you could have the laser pointer require a valid target and lock on after a bit, again returning to rocket sniping, maybe long enough to have fired three or so rockets.
>>12286853Well what came to mind is the two biggest reasons someone is gonna lay on the trigger with a rocket launcher is: Mulching crowds of mid tier monsters, or trying to kill something at long range. I'm not even sure how feasible a laser guidance system would be under Zandronum restrictions.Something that came to mind is some sort of defensive effect, like a shield or something that'll guard against fireballs and Rev missiles but then that runs the risk of totally shutting your brain off as you fire rockets, so that sucks.Really when you have a weapon as good as a rocket launcher it's hard to anything more to it.
>>12286858You could do something like Doom 2016/Eternal's remote detonation, but instead of activating it remotely, after firing 3-5 rockets, they just start flakking secondary explosions to the left and right on impact, helps with clearing crowds, and adds some more blast damage at range assuming you have some surface close to your target to hit.
>>12286863That's not a bad idea. I'll try that once I get around to that. Honestly I want to first go back and make the pistol and sword extra special first.
How do I play doom on my phone? I'm not giving my money to Todd Howard.
>>12286882Not giving money to Todd is fine, but is a phone the only device you have?Zoomers seem like they adapt well to playing on phones though, I've seen kids play complex mods with a lot of binds and micromanaging like HDest, and all on a touch screen. I can't even imagine that, but hell, it apparently works.
>>12286886I mean I don't feel like dragging my gaming rig around with me just to fire up chocolate doom when I'm in a waiting room or on a lunch break. Didn't think I needed to give my life story just to get a simple answer.
>>12286897Hey, fair. I'd do some occasional Dooming on the go, too, if I could be fucked to jailbreak my old 3DS.I believe that Doom Delta Touch is one of the ports for phones.
Apparently I can't help myself. I'm making taunt overlays just like the kick ones because I wanted to add the taunt to every weapon that didn't have a Reload state and it was bothering me that they just disappeared and reappeared. I was using really quick A_Lower and A_Raise at the beginning and ends but this way looks better. I think I'm still gonna keep that method for the bare-handed weapons and the sawn-off.

I don't care like, a ton, about speedrunning, but games like Doom is one where it can be fun, because the amount of bullshitting you can do is pretty limited, and when the game goes really hard (like Final Doom on Nightmare), you have no choice but to just fight. You need to work out a route and all that, but the combat gets SO fucking ferocious and intense that it often can't be escaped, and you ARE gonna get hit, so you need to not just fight expertly, you need to learn how to always roll with your punches the best you can. Nightmare means the monsters always keep coming, too.No ACE skips to the end screen, no RNG manipulation outside of TAS, and VERY rare instances of being able to break out of bounds, let alone that even being useful at all. You simply HAVE to always engage with the gameplay and levels, and sometimes in especially demanding ways.It actually gets exciting to watch that kind of gameplay, thus I treasure the small amount of people, such as ZeroMaster, who can legit put on that sort of show.

Who tf need all these ports? Why would I need more than Crispy Doom or GZ/UZDoom?
>>12289017>CrispyNot MBF21 compliant, which is why I've switch to Nugget Doom instead, which is pretty much Crispy but better
>>12289017If you record demos or make maps and want to play or make boom/mbf/mbf21 maps, I'd swap Crispy for something with complevel support like DSDA, Woof, or Nugget.
What's the difference between DSDA, Woof and Nugget?
>>12289126DSDA is PrBoom with updated compatibility and speedrun features like rewind and input displayWoof is the Crispy dev updating winMBF for modern standards and systems, but being relatively minimal with fluff features compared to CrispyNugget is Woof with some of the cosmetic fluff features from Crispy re-added
I swear Doom is the only retro FPS community where you get people being annoyed that they have plenty of choice for sourceports.
>>12289134So the closest to GZ in terms of modern features (visual fluff, freelook, freeaim and openGL freelook distortion fix) would be the nugget? When it comes to the types of modding they support, I assume none does Zscript, obviously. Do they do decorate? If I wanted to make mods that work on the widest range of ports, would I have to learn dehacked? >>12289137It gets confusing.

>>12289180>walking over/under monstersThat's nice, I like that. Does DSDA have it as well? DSDA has the openGL renderer, does nugget have it too?
>>12289017Minor preferences, basically.Personally, I'm entirely set with Nugget and GzD, they do everything that I want from Doom, from Vanilla, to MBF21, to Decorate and ZScript shenanigans, and they largely let me have the controls, graphics, and audio settings that I want.(I'll replace GzD with UzD once there's a reason for me to).But I can see someone who likes playing multiplayer a lot wanting something like Zandybam, even if it can't do half of what GzD can do, it can still do a lot and has actually usable netplay. Some people are also very particular about demos, maybe they like beating their own times and save their best recordings, or maybe they speedrun, then DSDA and Cherry are probably good for that. There's also Eternity, which only has one piece of interesting content for it, but hey, it's actually good and worth playing, even if Eternity is a One Horse Port.
Why doesn't anyone seem to use Hellion? It seems to work great.

But that never happened, after Killough fell out with Halderman, Flynn, and Phares (well, mostly Halderman, as I understand it) and the whole thing fell apart.Apparently getting proper 3d thing clipping and actor stacks to work, all the edge cases ironed out, avoiding monsters getting stuck together and stuff is quite difficult, and traditionalist demo-recording types never wanted it enough to do the work.

Everything built on top of that uses this hardware renderer to some degree. As for moving over/under stuff, I think that comes standard for modern ZDoom forks to begin with.I may be wrong, but the easiest way to get correct information is to make shit up, or at least misinform.

>>12291012Brutalism is actually workable for this. Every time I see brutalist architecture, I think, man would it suck to live and work in, but that it would make a good techbase for Doom or Quake.Just guss it up with some piping and computer panels, and then some occult shit and gore. Add guns, populate with monsters, then put on some pumping or moody background music, and you're there.

Does anyone have the "panquakes" meme? Or the "Quack" one with the bread.
>>12289570I began learning DecoHack a while ago and recreated the Xenos from Aliens: The Ultimate Doom using the MBF21 format. The WAD is used as a resource for Ultimate Doom Builder for mapping but it also works as its own Gameplay Mod.As a pure Gameplay Mod, a very hacky spawning system is used to make it so each map restart is different. So either a Xeno can spawn in place of an Imp in one run or the corpse of a marine with a weapon next to him can spawn in instead. When making original maps you can just place enemies in a map as you regularly would, with no random bs..I made an edited version of Aliens TC as a way to showcase what original maps would look like when using the WAD as a resource with UDB. Both WADs need to be loaded for the levels to work though..It’s basically a complete mod I’ve had sitting on my hard drive for a while that’s basically ready to be published somewhere but I’d appreciate some feedback if you guys can give some.https://files.catbox.moe/bx2xbg.webmhttps://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/fmewo3nmo48vcm21c8ud8/Aliens-TributeCode.zip?rlkey=2o9qr3ppi9dtp7tbz6th7lqu2&st=rh70iv05&dl=0

I'm so lost, brothers of Doom.I'm trying to config a solution for playing Doom with mods. I'm currently using ZDL to manage my WADS/IWADs. I mainly use GzDoom for "full conversions" such as Ashes, and I was using Crispy Doom for all my boom-compatible / vanilla needs. But I noticed some textures working bad (for example, at the begginning of first map of Alcázar shows that weird texture out-of-bounds-loop shit). Looking for Crispy alternatives, I came across DSDA-DOOM, which runs surplisingly bad on my computer (Linux Mint, i5, 12gb ram). Should I be using other sourceports? How do YOU manage all your wad needs? Seems like I'm overcomplicating something and I want to hear your solutions for managing multiple WADS/IWADS and sourceports.
>>12291734>for managingEach port gets its own folder.IWADs all go in one folder.Gameplay mods get split according to author and/or purpose (monster pack, atmosphere enhancement, weapons, etc).Music packs get their own folder.TCs get their own folders, since they often come prepackaged with their GZ executables and Freedoom.Maps are typically put in a single folder and deleted as soon as I finish playing them, unless I really like them.>DSDA running badHappened to me with similar specs, but I'm on Win11 and apparently there was some weirdness with how it handles the way its window is displayed, I guess? I started using Nugget Doom shortly after and haven't really used DSDA for anything other than testing.Give Nugget/Woof a try, they do everything DSDA does and have more QoL features generally speaking. Could also give Helion a shot if you're concerned about performance.
>>12291734I have everything littered all over the place without any kind of organisation and I type the command line out every time.Well after the first time it's in the shell history so not every time. But you know what I mean.
>>12291734I was going to say to use hobomaster22's doom launcher and just tag everything with appropriate tags for targeted source port, iwad, complevel, etc., but I am not sure if it runs on linux.
>>12291734I'm using DoomLauncher via ge-proton/umu-run as I can't be bothered to rework my old windows setup. GZdoom mainly just because I hate switching sourceports. Been thinking about adopting nugget but I always figure out something else to do.For Quake I'm using bunch of bat files and have couple of separate source ports though.. I often play dos doom and dos quake via dosbox-staging too.

>>12291734I use DoomLauncher, and then Nugget and GzDoom. Also, Ultimate Doom Builder and Slade.Dividing up how you store .wads by folders is also good. I need a Doom WAD that captures the essence of PURE masculinity without any effeminacy in it (ie no homosexuality whatsoever, just pure appreciation of masculine energy), just sheer masculine triumph and conquest without end. >>12294206And, of course, none of that even applies to the Citadel series because they're UE4 games.
>>12294206Generally speaking: if it uses an old engine, it's allowed.
>>12294090Might be able to hack something together since the progs are built on top of Copper, which some people think is an okay vanilla + mod of sorts while others say it's an affront to the game.Either way, something will break if you load it on top of the jam since the QBJ3 progs are an extension of Copper - off the top of my head, the new monsters wouldn't be present and rotating level geometry wouldn't work. I think level scripts that give or take weapons would also break since they have different internal names.TL;DR: You need to replace the weapons' code, live with the changes or just not play it if you don't like it.

Oh shit, the caltrops are really useful for PM's spooky fuckers.
>>12293083Can you turn those off?
I thought some of you guys were overreacting to the rocket launcher in QBJ3. It really escapes my mind how among the 30+ people involved with the project this thing made it through without enough opposition.
>>12294381you must have original iwadsjust play them on a community source port
>>12294483That's what happens when the control freak sheep is part of the project.
>>12294483>I thought some of you guys were overreacting to the rocket launcher in QBJ3.About it being too weak or too weird?
>>12294513It isn't even nearly as "weak" as it is ass to use. It fires off 8 weak, slow missiles for the cost of 4 grenades over about 2s. It is therefore not only ammo inefficient, but you also need to aim at something the whole time and whatever you are aiming at may move out of the way. It is also worthless for sniping enemies. On top of all of that it also means you can't really rocket jump anymore. I find myself using it only if I'm nearing 100 rockets and I either don't have the grenade launcher or it would be unusable in the encounter. All the other custom weapons are fine at worst (rebar launcher) and refreshing (shotgun) at best.
>>12294519>It isn't even nearly as "weak" as it is ass to use. It fires off 8 weak, slow missiles for the cost of 4 grenades over about 2s. It is therefore not only ammo inefficient, but you also need to aim at something the whole time and whatever you are aiming at may move out of the way.Using the "vore standard", it's equally as efficient with its ammo: A vore normally dies to four rockets. The qbj3 rocket launcher uses four rockets to shoot eight mini-rockets, also killing the vore, and faster than the vanilla grenade launcher could. "Aiming at something the whole time" is something I'd be doing with any weapon regardless, especially with the nail guns. The missiles seem to be of the same speed as regular rockets.I've been using it when there's often more than one or multiple enemies bunched up, otherwise I'm using the grenade launcher. Not being able to rocket jump can be a bummer, and that "stakegun" has been fun towards filling the "sniping weapon" void.
>>12294519Legit sounds fucking awful.Again, Duke3D does this the right way with the RPG and the Devastator being two separate weapons with two separate roles, and they both feel awesome to use.Even Strife does it ok, its rocket launcher is pretty weak, but you get quite a lot of rockets and you can fire somewhat fast, and the grenade launcher is the real powerhouse explosive weapon, using its own ammo types, which I feel makes up for its clunky and awkward handling.I really don't feel like there's much of a good reason to even revamp Quake's rocket launcher, unless there's like, sweeping changes to all the other gameplay, I'd do maybe some cosmetic thematic changes at most while keeping its handling the same or similar. Quake's is basically Doom's rocket launcher but with even punchier feedback.
>>12294519They tried to improve on perfection and came up with cringe.
>>12294519>It fires off 8 weak, slow missiles for the cost of 4 grenades over about 2s.Sounds a bit like the Doom beta BFG
>>12294621>I really don't feel like there's much of a good reason to even revamp Quake's rocket launcher, unless there's like, sweeping changes to all the other gameplayThere's big sweeping changes to all the other weapons. The grenade launcher is ironically the one that's touched up the least next to the axe replacement, I think it just fires faster but I need to test it more.
>>12294784That looks powerful
>>12294784>>12294791Oh wait I suppose slot 8 it would be I didn't notice that at firstAnyway it reminds me of the blood sphere thing in Zen Dynamics
>>12294784Nailgun and GL are the least changed. The wrench does way more damage than the axe, has knockback, and can hit multiple enemies in front of you.
>>12294791Honestly too powerful. All weapons should get a meaningful boost from quad damage.
YOU WILL DIE A SLOW SLOW DEATH
Wolfenstein 3D is a better game than Doom because it's faster, and the enemies kill you faster, and there is genuinely more nuanced enemy variety with the 4 hitscanners of varying speed/reaction/noise/range, than there is in Doom's hodgepodge of functionally identical hitscanners + imps, bigger imps, and flying imps, all of which can't hit the broad side of a barn.Doom simply did not provide an interesting or evolved combat loop until the arrival of the extra enemies in Doom 2, which really contextualized the player's arsenal and physics-based movement system, and made combat dynamic, instead of just an easier, less refined Wolf 3D.Doom would benefit from Wolf 3D's hitscan nuances, both for the enemies (in terms of normalized reaction speeds/prefire delays, ranging from fast as fuck to sluggish, + varying ramp up / fall off, all bound to easily distinguished unit types), and the player's Pistol/Chaingun (just in terms of ramp up, giving both more utility when blasting up close).Wolf 3D would benefit from 1-2 harder hitting slower weapons with a separate shared ammo pool, and a handful of tougher fast-projectile enemies with wild movement patterns to duel using these guns. Basically like what RoTT does, if Enforcers moved like gnats and only threw grenades. And also footstep noises.Question: What existing game / mod fits my extremely particular autistic vision of snappy concise hitscan hell + wildcard projectile enemies? Besides Blood.

>>12294921>And also footstep noises.lol you had me going there for a minute
>>12294908Yep I've been slowly dying for over 17 thousand days now... it's like being digested in the the pit of the Sarlacc...
>>12294921Wolf 3d has varied combat? More like boring ass doorway combat lmao - camping in front of a door ain’t combat, it’s considered a hallmark of a bad doom mapperBoth Doom 1 and 2 have incredibly varied enemy roster and your post has no argument beyond just describing it
>>12293056>>12293069Its fucking trash. The idea could be interesting if done better in a user map, but trying to mislead and soft force it as an official map is just garbage.
>>12294908COME OUT WE WON'T HURT YOU
>>12294921>Question: What existing game / mod fits my extremely particular autistic vision of snappy concise hitscan hell + wildcard projectile enemies? Besides Blood.uuuh Ion maybe? Different tiers of hitscan hell. The problem though is the game is way too easy, but thats maybe my countless replays talking here, and then there's a lack of big bad enemy that would shake up the rules of combat. In doom 2 you have fat high tier enemies and then also Archie, one of the most well made enemies in fps in general. In Ion there's mech boss and 2 decently fat enemies but all those are way too easy to trivialise with your arsenalSW also has interesting enemy variety, with cool design of shadow ninjas and miniboses with many different attacks. The problem of that one is that the game is just underrated as fuck so you'll never see it's full potential like with Blood or Duke. God I wish some autist made Death Wish tier mappack for it
>>12294958I'd be a lot more forgiving if it were his personal thing still but shoving it into a commercial thing really makes the not so great aspects of it stand out like a sore thumb.
>>12294973Exactly. Could have been a neat little puzzle to demonstrate the lack of infinitely tall actors as a feature, but both poorly implemented and shoehorned in to what will be many people's first time experiencing the base campaign was a shitty personal glory kinda move.
>>12294996It's the kind of thing that would be cool as a community thing, either tune up Heretic or do the Heretic The Way We Remember It kind of thing.
>>12294972Ion Fury would qualify if the hitscanners' damage was buffed 20-30% and everyone's pre-fire delay / spin up / margin for missing was halved (relative to Max Difficulty).Of course it'd also help if the nuisance drones could hurt you, if Treadkills stopped spazzing enough to hit you at all, if Wendigos flattened you twice as fast, if there were more strict ammo limitations, etc.The game is basically perfect with its sound design, letting you manage stuff by ear and play both run and gun and play tactically interchangeably. Just really, really needs to /require/ that more, IMO. Arrange Mode's early game sorta gets it.Shadow Warrior's sound design and lack of hitstun doesn't really give me the feel I need.
>>12294996heretic already shows off the lack of infinitely tall actors with gargoyles and some secrets
>>12295000HTC is fun and all, but we really need more variety of quality Heretic community projects. I can't say shit though because I'm garbage as a mapper, let alone a Heretic one. Agreed that would definitely be the kind of place to put something like the pod bridge shit.>>12295012Yep, but that puzzle in particular requires it. I just get that the intention was probably a kind of "In case you didn't notice yet, this is a thing that wasn't in Doom!" showcase. I feel like ragging on the remaster is a bit of a dead horse and all, but that puzzle's usage is just baffling to me as a replacement section in part of an official product.
>>12295027it's hard to appreciate heretic if you never got pool's closed by two pinkies underneath
>>12292347I think it's neat. The SuperFX chip is already kinda cheating. I do think it would've been neater to try to stick within 90's era limitations for the emulated chip. Something like what a hypothetical SFX3 chip might've looked like if made back then. I almost got one of these, but I have the original Doom cartridge from the era, and it's neat enough.
>>12295000There's a very obscure secret in Wayfarer that requires building a bridge from explosive pods. Since the remaster also uses the "balancing" changes from Wayfarer I assume that's where they got the idea from.
Fractured Worlds needs to lay off the Sunlust sauce, damn
>>12294921> wolf better than doomnigga you retarded. you playing on a game n watch or something?
>>12295060And if that were something reserved for the exclusive episode, that would be one thing. But shoehorning it into an unrelated area of a base map in a way that any reasonable person would assume it was part of the the original design is serious main character bullshit. Nobody is going to go through the changenotes of the map modifications, they're just going to assume someone shit the bed when designing that particular "puzzle," just like they do when any of the "improvements" doesn't stick the landing. A lot of them are fine and just uncanny valley level stuff, but I spent half the time trying to remember what the original section even looked like that turned it into... that.
>>12294031>its about hiding essential paths and that is dogshit game designI don't really remember Duke 3D doing that all too often, though. Unless you're playing Duke it out in DC.

>>12293492I usually stay out of the /pol/ crap, but out of my compassion for you I want to say that don't do it, anon. Do not transition. Being a tomboy and liking boyish and manly things as a woman is perfectly fine. It's not even that rare, and both men and women like tomboys. You like being a tomboy, but I assure that you will not enjoy being a man. You might like the idea, but you will lose much more than you gain. Being a man is a lonely path, so certainly you wouldn't even get attention by transitioning, instead you will lose it. Basically there is no point, since then it is only you alone in this cold world that does not give a shit, even if you had so many friends and social connections. As a man you cannot afford to be sentimental or soft, even if you wanted. It is fine as woman, but society will judge you as a weak, and failure, if you don't just suck it up, become cold and just continue living like a robot. It's not even a transphobia, but just basically how society has always been towards men. Outsider men have always been seen as enemies, and in this age we are all outsiders since we don't live in a clans. Basically your family will be your only clan that doesn't see you as a enemy, and as a trans man you couldn't become masculine enough to gain interest of women to achieve a family. It's not transphobia, it's the reality of all not enough masculine men. It's not about self esteem, just your wealth, strength and genes then. But still you cannot afford to be soft. That's how men are measured. You will have a much better life as a tomboy, even with your gender dysphoria. There will be no reward in the end, if you decide to become man. What ever your problems are, as a man they will be much worse. Being a man is not fun or cool. Being a man is just existing.
>>12295643Yeah I've done that too, it's easy to do one side but forget to clean out the other. Are you going to uvmax all the rest? Or maybe you've done that already?

I don't see how you can like Doom midi music and Eternal's music, theoretical person who exists. I haven't played Eternal but listening to it on its own I should feel something but I don't. I'm sure I'd be rocking to Doom midis even if they weren't attached to memories of palying the game.
>>12295735... And I like metal music that doesn't pop like the classic Doom music does, like Cradle of Filth, Death, Deicide, Obituary, Deicide, Morbid Angel, and others. It's... I dunno. Maybe I should try to understand why people think its good and play a Doom game past Doom 3.

It was fun for awhile getting swept up in the latest and greatest 3D graphics though. WHOA, look at all the foliage in Crysis and Far Cry! DAMN, look at the lighting in Doom 3 then HOLY SHIT, F.E.AR. but I was led astray.

A megawad I made is fully done, but I can't release it until I've drawn the title picture, the menu screen a and animated an entire trailer for it and I'm almost completely burnt out.
>>12297028Well, it sounds like you have done good work, and with goals like that, I'm assuming it to be an ambitious title. You should rest for a bit, then get back to finishing up that stuff later. Consider maybe playing another game to decompress a little?
>>12297031The shitty plastic belt piece on my work laptop bag ripped in two today right as I was crossing the street, and there was an incoming tram. Without even thinking I grabbed the damn bag because I didn't want it to get run over. Could have easily gotten killed today if I was slower. I actually expected to be run over by a truck before finishing this fucking megawad, but almost getting killed by a tram due to fucking misfortune and inability to self-preserve was not on my list. Maybe I'll slip on ice later.
>>12297067I actually understand the mindset, you put a lot of yourself and your time into that, of course you'd be protective of it. I had a similar experience with a failing clip on a laptop bag actually (only not in traffic, it just failed while I was moving it indoors), so I'm fairly conscious of that, carrying it directly instead of on the strap. It sounds like you're stressed, man, but it sounds like you're also almost finished with an ambitious project which you've really wanted to do, and I'm interested in seeing it. Like I said, try to relax some, it's good to decompress yourself from the artistic labor periodically, both just for yourself, but also because it'll help you create better after you've gotten some rest and change of pace for a while.Sometimes, I find that I'm burning out and progress stalls, so it's actually good for me to drop the project for a few weeks and then come back to it later. To give yourself some peace of mind, make some online backups of your work with something like Mega.Nz or Google Drive, to absolutely ensure that even if you were to lose your laptop, you still had a backup of your efforts done.
If you played the 2019 release of classic Doom developed by Nerve Software and published by Bethesda Softworks, you'd know that after you finish E1 and the intermission text scroll finishes they throw gigantic spoiler at you like "You just beat the twin barons of hell, now go fuck yourself and spoiler alert btw"
