I have the exact same handheld and color way. you did not make a mistake, its fucking based beyond belief. i dont even play sega games and i love the six button layout, all of the controls are super comfy and the device and screen is gorgeous. as an added bonus the speaker is shockingly good and the battery lasts forever. yeah I dont miss the sticks at all. they are ugly as sin and not comfy to use on verts whatsoever. I feel like no sticks give it more a premium look, like its an actual handheld nintendo or sega couldve made instead of a catch all bootleg device. having all of my nes, snes, genesis, master system, gg, pce, gb, gbc, gba, ps1 and saturn games all run and look great, why would I possibly want more. if I want to play n64, gen 6 or later Ill play on my pc where a bigger screen is better for those games anyway. not to mention a lot of those games you could get away with mapping the analog to the d pad anyway, especially rpgs racers or fighters. the cpu can absolutely handle gen 6 but retro 2d stuff just feels a lot better and more suited for handheld anyway so I havent bothered yet.

I'm having fun playing FF3 DS on my Ayn Thor!

What games you guys playing?
>>
>>12289592
Why would you play that dog shit version when the NES version is so much better in every way, and a pixel remaster exists?

For me it’s vertical or nothing. Got my rg 40xxV from anbernig on Ali baba 3 days after Christmas and it’s ballin. Today I have a 128gb card from Amazon basics arriving, (rebranded Lexar). Should I flash knulli or is that actual trash? The built in OS is pretty janky looking but I’ve logged like close to 40 hours on metal max returns (SNES jrpg, epic AF, found out about it elsewhere here in /vr/) and it’s been great.
>>
is rg cube still worth it for around 100 bucks?
>>
>>12289610
Upscaled 3D models are comfy and look nice on the OLED for one, and the pixel remasters are hilarious garbage, I can't believe you'd recommend that half-assed mobile slop looking shit, they look worse than a 2002 newgrounds flash game.
>>
>>12289610
Knulli if you want a normal clean experience.
MinUI if you want a minimalistic look.
MuOS if you want your device to explode.
>>
>>12289625
nta but I tend to agree, the FF chili remakes never quite sat well with me. FFIV is legit one of my favorite games of all time, I never thought the chibi look was appropriate. FFIII gets a bit of a pass because I think in my mind I consider it a fairytale where its kids on an adventure, but it still doesn’t look as good.

>>12289649
Ergonomics are the only real issue with them. They're fine as a kid but as an adult unless they're big like the RG35XX-SP or contoured like the original GBC you're either gonna get more tired/crampy holding the thing for long periods of time, will never feel like you have anywhere to put your hands, or you're gonna have to hold the thing at weird positions particularly if it has sticks at all. If you're willing to put up with the ergonomics issue there's nothing wrong with them.

>>
>>12289649
Idk, I enjoy mine very much, then again, It's not like I play games all day.
>>
>>12289645
I was who originally gave him crap about the D’s remake and I actually liked and beat the ds chibi remake of ff4. The ds version of 3 is just so clunky and slow. Plus when emulating the English translation of it in the mid/late 00’s it became my favorite 8 bit FF, all the classic 8 bit sprites from ff1 but now there’s more, and perfected chip tunes. It’s similar to ff1 music but with percussion and just is peak NES.

THE DS version just erased all that and replaced it with imitation real instruments and terrible chibi graphics and just made everything feel clunky in my opinion.

I bought the pixel remaster for switch and it’s pretty faithful to the nes version but with some changes but still much better than the DS one. And I don’t the the DS version is better then the original ff4 I just think that remake style worked much better for 4 than 3.
>>
>>12289865
Yeah, but there’s a fuckload of slop in that mess. I think my “curated” DS files are only about 90-something gigs.
>>12289867

I’ve decided to eat the loss of purchasing a shitty emulator console, but figured I’ll try one last time to get it to work, by asking here…
I’ve purchased an R40S Pro with its software in a 256 GB Lexar micro SD card the appears to be corrupt. I’ve tried other micro SD cards and installation files for it but I could never get it to work – the Lexar card would display the voltage before cutting off and the 512 GB Samsung card (tried SanDisk as well) would only show a black screen before cutting off.
Any alternatives?

Idk, it’s the first game that popped up that wasn’t an SNES port, and while the Tony Hawk’s Underground games were enjoyable, it wasn’t better than MC.
Neither was Dark Arena.
Urbz and Sims Bursting Out were a bit boring yet captivating.
GTA Advance wasn’t as enjoyable as the Tony Hawk games. Same can be said for 007: Everything or Nothing.

CDRomance.org is the bee's knees.
You can windowshop at youtube watching videos like "underrated PSX games" or "PSP hidden gems", and then go to CDRomance and look for the games. Or simply browse by console and check game by game, looking at its description, cover, and screenshots.

Seems to be the case in terms of raw power, but Android is more bloated than Linux. This is why I want a sub $100 Linux system with at least a 4.7" screen, 4:3, and 2gb ram. There's some weird off brand stuff like the CB408 and the R46H but I don't know if I trust them.

And a lready have a laptop with Ryzen7 7735HS and RX7700S, focused on modern PC games and Switch emulation, that weighs the same and is as "hand held" as the StimDick.

The RG34XXSP, though, fits in my pocket, is easy to play with one hand, and is focused on retro.

>>
>>12291060
Some archives use a generic image when they don't have the image archived at all to indicate a 404 so you don't have an empty looking page. Sage used to use a trollface and now uses Mike Matei looking at a tablet.

When you go father back than like 2016 in most of these archives the images are completely gone or they can't justify keeping them archived anymore so they just purposely 404 them.

But for $90 I'm not seeing much else in that bracket, except for the Ayylmao Mini and that has less ram and less cfw support.
>>
>>12291078
Look up other devices with the RK3566
Also look up which actual core type it has. For example the RK3566 has Cortex-A55 cores, these are similar to the other cortex A5x CPUs like the Allwinner A133 And H700, weaker than the Cortex A7x cores, and bette rthan the Cortex A3x crap e.g. in the R36S

>PK 35H
>E6 Plus
>RBG10Max3

>RG353P/S
>X55

>RG353M
Most of these are either too small, too pricey for the performance, or too old/unsupported. I'm just being a picky bitch is all. I'll probably end up with the Trimui Smart Pro S once it gets good cfw. Not the best looking console, but it'll do what I want it to.

I'm not an expert on this, but my understanding is ram gives the CPU headroom to handle more complex/demanding tasks. Sure for SNES emulation you don't need much, but pushing into PSP and beyond you'd want that extra memory.

Huh. Now that's something I didn't know. Did you have any recommendations? I'd like good performance up to PSP (games like Portable Ops/Peace Walker, Tactics Ogre) but supermajority will be PS1 and below. Main issue is I just can't do a little bitch ass 3.5" screen.

Your only real bets at this point are the Pocket Air Mini or the Anbernic RG476H. I cant speak for the latter and I'm disappointed that they went with the glass panel route for a not-premium device, but I liked the Pocket Air Mini a lot and you'll have no problem running Dreamcast games at 960p on it. The only problem with it is that getting it shipped is a pain, it took an extra month or so after the IGG campaign ended for me to receive my unit. But I definitely think it was worth it.
>>
>>12291367
Yeah I was a bit worried about shipping but even with DHL costs the price/performance for that form factor seems to be the best. Think I'll pull the trigger.
>>
>>12291365
I've swung towards and away from this thing constantly, but it does seem to be a good bet for doing most things and has a reasonable build quality. I also read that GammaOS really gives it a good kick in the pants so at least I'll have that to look forward to.

Not everyone can or wants to shell out 150-250 bucks for a chinkheld, so they shit on the mid-tier stuff as much as they can whenever they can about bullshit that doesn't impact the majority of people.
>>
>>12293524
I consider myself pretty cheap but ever since I've gotten more into handhelds I've seen a solid midrange chinkheld as really high value, you've got basically everything up through 6th gen and if you get a usb-c hub with hdmi out and a couple ports for controllers you basically have a console as a bonus. Nothing stopping you from picking up some $70 shit if you don't care about being able to emulate relatively new stuff anyways

As long as they have a 3326 with one or 2gb's of ram, clones are mostly fine. It's the one's with 3128's he should be worried about and the new one's which use android with ancient mediakek chips weaker than 3326's if you believe it. Those are truly shit because they'll never get good firmware and have the os spilt bewteen emmc and the sdcard.

Speaking of bios why does knulli keep saying I don’t have bios for psx, Dreamcast, Saturn & gba when I do? Do you literally need to have every single bios revision possible? I’ve never had this much of an issue with bios since I first emulated in the mid 00’s.

Additionally is knulli just shit for other systems? The stock anbernig is while ugly as sin played crazy taxi 2 flawlessly and either retroarch or fly cast are both playing it shitty. And flycast keeps preferring a Japanese bios over North American

ADDITIONALLY why the fuck can’t you save on state 0 and it keep incrementing up one slot when you save, vs the stock behavior working like it should (staying where you select it)

That said the anbernig 40xx V yes vertical is the best mid range or lower tier (mind cost like $65 shipped from Ali baba Christmas week recently). If you have normal hands this “chonky” feels perfect as an adult. I don’t have my old game boy with me but it feels similar dimensions to the OG game boy. Horizontals are incredibly uncomfortable and holding your hands any wider than a SNES or XBONE controller for more than 10 minutes is awkward Af
>>
>>12294139
>why does knulli keep saying I don’t have bios for psx, Dreamcast, Saturn & gba when I do?
Because it requires specific bios revisions with a specific md5 hash for it to consider you having it. It may function properly but it's not a proper dump so it gets mad at you for it.
>Additionally is knulli just shit for other systems?
No, it's typically got more updated emulators. The performance issues are down to the stock typically cranking frameskip or other hacks to get stuff to run at all while Knulli gets you into the best usable state the emulation can be without starting on hacking it to hell.
>ADDITIONALLY why the fuck can’t you save on state 0 and it keep incrementing up one slot when you save
You sure you don't have it on state -1? That increments it if I remember right.

My Thor crashes on NetherSX2 and PPSSPP more than my RP5 ever has. Anyone have similar issues?
>>
>>12295856
yeah the issue is you're beta testing some retroid slop
>>
didn't they do input lag tests and the odin 2 portal has less lag than the 'eck since it uses a high quality screen with a high refresh rate and the 'eck uses a dogshit dumpster screen at 60hz

no wonder chuds call it the psx

I wanted to play the 3DO version of Star Control II on my RG35XX H; but 3DO emulation runs so shit on it which I didn't expect since it runs PS1 so well.
>>
>>12295920
The 'eck has a 90hz screen. If the Odin has better response time that's pretty sick
>>
>>12295979
less popular systems tend to run worse because the emulators are less developed unfortunately

why the 3do version?
i have yet to try any 3do emulation on my h, it likely runs fine once you actually get the emulator settings right

Or just use your PC. 3DO emulation is always going to be shit on ARM due to the difference in instructions per second, all 3DO games are running at six instructions per second and ARM can only do 4.

The problem with this general is that nobody understands why there's lag or why some things just don't fucking work despite "muh processors" not doing what they're supposed to do. 3DO is beefy, despite the devs not exploiting it like they should've, and the emulators cannot run like they should because of the architecture.
>muh linux
Won't do a damn thing. There's lag even when running linux.

lmfao, only retards who are as retarded as you would believe the bullshit that you're spewing, learn hpw computation works, dumbass
>>
>>12296064
Well it's either the old DOS version, the updated 3DO version (which has new features), or the PortMaster version of "The Ur-Quan Masters" which is just a port/fork of the 3DO version. I picked the 3DO version for shits and giggles, but it runs like ass, and so do other 3DO games like Killing Time and Need for Speed.

>>
>>12296096
he isn't wrong arm can only do 4 instructions per tick opposed to 6 that's why arm was exponentially faster back in the day
>>
>>12296097
i'll load it up on my h then and see if i can't get it to run well, i've only played the ur-quan masters version so at least it'll be something different for me

Can they start shipping the fucking Thors already?

Thanks, it'd be good to know if 3DO is ass on the device or it's just me fucking something up. I'm running the latest version of Knulli on it.

Get married and have kids. You'll begin to live for someone else instead of yourself, and you'll realize happiness and enjoyment is found in purpose and not whizz-bang yahoo.
Either that, or buy another shiny new chinkheld.

Did I just get a lemon battery? The system itself works fine but it's unusable now due to the battery. I even tried multiple SD cards to sanity check this. I'm currently going to leave the charger plugged in to see if that does anything but I turned it off at like 60% yesterday and it was fine.
>>
>>12296323
yeah great idea, leave your temu cheap handheld with battery issues plugged up all night while you sleep
>>
>>12296329
Oh no, I'm staring at it as we speak. The green light is showing and it does work, but I'm not sure if it just had the power fully drained or what. Only thing I can really do is see if it just hit 0% somehow and charging fixes that, or if it truly is dead.

because PS is short for postscript, and there was no ps2 yet, hence psx

this is what my 2004 launch ds battery started doing in 2015 shortly before it started swelling, your battery is e-waste now, get it processed before it starts a lithium fire
>>
>>12296787
It's actually been perfectly fine now. I've had it draining for the past two or so hours and outside of 100% to 70% draining fairly quickly (Like 1% every 30 seconds to a minute) going from 70% to 25% has taken significantly longer. It's also not swelling at all, I've checked it in the case at least three times. No bulging, no swelling, perfectly flush.

I'm currently waiting for it to hit 0% so that I can open the system up again, disconnect it, discharge the capacitors, and then start charging it again.
>>
>>12295310
Looking it up, it sounds like it just means 5V at max 1.6A, I don't think the greater than or equal to is particularly relevant, like it's just an arrow.
>>
>turned all my ps2 isos into cd chds instead of dvd ones
does this actually cause issues
