I’m not even a big Pokémon fan and I lost interest in between gold and silver and ruby and sapphire, but a memory I come back to a lot is going to the mall in my small town of like 50k one night and going to KB toys and preordering silver version for 5.00 and being super excited, getting some promo cd I put in my windows xp computer, and just being generally hyped and excited for the game.I think it was a great game and idk why I never played Pokémon after that, I’m honestly pretty sure it’s because the GameCube came out and I was more interested in games on that console, and then Xbox and halo came out and I shifted into dudebro territory.(Years later i also got a ps2 used in like 2009 so I eventually got all 3 consoles and I enjoy them all)

I think that was the last generation where you were seriously kneecapping yourself or massively missing out not having all 3 consoles. the Wii I think you can argue both sides for, but the xb1 and ps5 imo are the same console more or less without many worthwhile exclusives and I don’t think the modern Nintendo consoles have the same effort put behind them or the library but I could be wrong. not a huge fan of the switch 1 or switch 2 or any modern console. even though I think the switch 2 is a toy if I could only have one modern console I guess it would be that.

I regret selling mine during covid which is when I was selling a lot of my stuff, I may try to get another one one day. I was very surprised that there are aftermarket shells for the Dreamcast now. if I can find aftermarket shells for all 4 consoles of that gen I wonder if there is a cool color to make them all match in. I personally just feel like that is a magical generation in gaming and we never needed more. was too perfect to last I suppose.
