Just bought the Ultimate 2C. Should I have purchased Pro 2 instead?

I like the Switch 2 Pro controller because the buttons and sticks are really quiet. You don't get the loud clacking sounds like with 8bitdo controllers.

I got the Ultimate 2C, but the d-pad sucked for retro games. Eventually replaced it with a GuliKit ES PRO when it went on sale last Black Friday.

Not a fan of it not having a wired-only option like the Ultimate 2C causing me to pay a bit extra for a feature I don't intend to use (Though it coasts the same as the wireless Ultimate 2C outside of the sale) but the d-pad is much more responsive and doesn't easily register accidental diagonals like the Ultimate 2C does, plus the sticks on the PRO version I got are TMR instead of hall Effect like in the Ultimate 2C. Updating it's firmware is easier too and doesn't require an app. I've been using it for retro games on my MiSTer and both retro and modern games on my PC, both in wired mode. I get that not everyone would b into the circular d-pad though, even though it's more accurate than the cross-shaped one on the Ultimate 2C.

As a bonus it even is compatible with Switch 1 and 2, including gyro and wake. About the only thing it's missing from the official Pro controller is NFC.

IMO the problem with Pro 2, or any Nintendo controller other than the Gamecube (Which has a whole different set of problems) is no analog triggers. If you're going to be using it to emulate retro consoles that had that such as PS2, Saturn, Dreamcast, Gamecube, or Xbox, or also using it to play modern games on your PC, that can be a problem.

Also, it's a fucking $90 controller! And despite that, it still uses goddamn potentiometer sticks even after all the complaints about drift. Just about every 3rd party controller manufacturer has figured out how to make a similar controller with at least hall effect sticks (and triggers) if not TMR for around $20-30. Nintendo (and Sony and Microsoft for that matter) have no excuse for still using potentiometer sticks, especially at the insane prices they charge for their controllers.

dualshock layout is better for 99% of games youll be emulating: games where you primarily use the dpad or playstation games.

but you already bought it so whats the point of this thread are you going to return it?

Yes, retro games, the kind that generally are played with a controller. Such as the kind of controller one would need if they are emulating retro games, which is how most retro games are played these days.

Glad we cleared that up, since complaining about people asking what controller is best to play their retro games with would just be silly, good thing you weren't doing that, that would be like complaining that people talking about Gen1-6 emulators isn't retro.
>>
>>12301849
controllers are used for playing games including retro games you fucking idiot
this thread is 1000x more on topic than your latest zoomer "uhnnn akshooally this beloved time honored classic from before my birth is le shit game!!" vomit you human sloppile
>>
xbone controllers will never be retro
>>
>>12301869
not retro, and your post is shallow and pedantic
>>12301871
it's a new controller. since when is new retro?
>>
>>12301879
Nice try Peter, that's like arguing it's not retro if you are running an emulator on a modern PC.
>>
>>12301884
take this shit to /v/, it's not relevant to /vr/ discussion, even if you're using it to emulate retro hardware. you're literally discussing modern hardware

Do you have anything of actual worth to contribute other than the most shallow attempt at trolling imaginable?
>>
>>12301898
the existence of a thread doesnt mean its not against the rules. Theres currently a general devoted to spreading christianity on this board right now but that aint about retro games either.

There are no jannies so it is your duty as an upstanding citizen to not throw garbage out your window while driving just because the car in front of you did as well.

>trolling
I am dead-ass serious. General threads aren't allowed on /v/. Why should they be allowed on /vr/?
>waaah my general doesn't get enough traffic to last on /vg/
Then fuck off.
>>
>>12301910
The Handheld General threads have been in /vr/ for years, go be an idiot somewhere else.

There is this wonderful feature for topics you don't like but aren't breaking the rules called the hide thread feature. Here, I shall demonstrate by hiding all of your whiny replies from now on and not engaging with your retardation any further.

I have both and I use pro 2 just for 2d games because the dpad is better but Ult 2c feels way better in hand, analogs and triggers are much better too
>>
Whatever.
>>
>>12301246
Which Pro 2?
>>
>>12301246
2c doesnt connect to iPhones, the Pro 2 does. I know the use case for this is slim, but that’s the only notable difference I’ve had with them.

I've got the previous "affordable" version (Ultimate C Wired) from 2023. It is not that good. The triggers are kind of hard (Xbox One/Series are soft and smooth), the dpad is not that great (Xbox One/Series mogs it but because it has microswitches just like 3DS/Vita/NGPC), and the membrane is cheap.

Xbox One/Series is superior, even the Xbox 360 Wired Controller For Windows is waay better.

As far as I know, 2C has 2 programmable extra bumpers and the sticks are those without drift but I bet the triggers, dpad and 4 buttons are meh as the 1st gen.

I cope with the fact that I bought it for 5 bucks on Amazon.
>>
I'm using picrel, no idea what "model" it is but it was cheap at wall market.
The D-pad is noisy as fuck and it isn't weighted "right" to me. But it's not bad and the buttons are responsive enough and don't stick or anything.
I really liked my DualShock4, probably the best controller I've ever used, but I spilled beer on it and it won't charge.
Anyway, to those saying this doesn't fit in /vr/ - controller discussion seems more relevant to /vr/ than CRTs so go blow yourselves.
>>
>>12301246
I own both. Prefer the Pro 2 in terms of how it feels in my hands and the general layout, but that's because I was raised on PSX.

Ultimate 2C has one serious advantage of having much lower latency though, especially for the buttons.

I have a PS2 Slim with a BlueRetro adapter for wireless play and playing Tekken 5 with the Pro 2 is pure suffering, the delay between the button presses and hits connecting is very noticeable - personally I find it unplayable. With the Ultimate 2C, no such issues.

Everything updated to the latest firmware of course.

Another thing is, I have a Raspberry PI connected to a CRT. My distro of choice for retro gaming is Lakka (Community Edition for CRTs, supports 240p through Composite) - both gamepads work just fine when connected through a cable, but trying to use wireless is another story. Ultimate 2C? It just werks. Pro 2? On some revisions of Lakka it works, but the driver gets confused every now and then and you need to connect to the PI through SSH and force specific commands through the command line in order to remove any traces of it ever being present, then reconnect. On others, it just doesn't fucking work at all.

TL:DR - I think Pro 2 is nicer, but I've had connection issues with it and the latency is shit.

Apparently there's now a hall effect model, so maybe that one is better.
>>
I don't buy every controller made so it's nice to see opinions from anons that do
>>
>>12307754
The Xbox Series Controller has a "Share/Capture" button and a dome-shaped d-pad instead of the traditional cross, making it a great controller. It feels stiff because of the microswitches; it’s a mechanical D-pad.
I also own a DS4, which is good, but I’m not as impressed with its quality. Surprisingly, my digital PS1 controller has a better d-pad and membrane, it feels sturdier and gives more tactile feedback when pressing the buttons. I just wish I had an adapter to use it on my PC.

>>12301921
>the existence of a thread doesnt mean its not against the rules

So it's obviously not a problem then

Too bad that no matter how hard you autistically screech in an attempt to be a wannabe janny it's not going to change the fact that the thread is not violating the rules and people have both made in the past and will in the future continue to make threads asking about controllers like this.
