Thank you' I'll check them out.

I will ask in this new thread aswell: I want to play some SMW romhacks, I intend to play A plumber for all seasons and SMW 30th anniversary edition, aswell as the ones the guy I quoted suggested. Give me some other ones to check out.
Please no kaizo shit, something which is about in line with the normal game's difficulty.
>>
>>12370689
I adored Super Mario Bros. For Lost Players and it's definitely not kaizo but it's harder than SMW, taking pages from SMB and SMB2j including physics. Though I guess you could just turn on infinite lives if you're a casual bab

>spent almost a year building game engine for GBC
>half of that time spent building custom tools to generate graphics, music and sound effects in custom ASM format
>got sprites to move and background to scroll
>can't get background palettes to update right
>sprite glitching out because i haven't properly implemented a DMA transfer method of sprite drawing
almost tempted to give up on this shit but i've come too far already. my game will be the tits if i finish it in my lifetime
>>
>>12370970
>can't get background palettes to update right
Make sure you're doing it during HBlank, VBlank, etc.. Palettes have access restrictions just like VRAM.
>sprite glitching out because i haven't properly implemented a DMA transfer method of sprite drawing
Then implement it. It's not that much work, and it only has to be done once. The pan doc even has example code you can reference.
>>
>>12370992
yeah i've been referencing it a lot. i had to rewrite the background updating logic a bunch of times as well as how the tile map and palette buffers are stored to avoid bg layer artifacts from running out v/hblank time. it's much improved from my first implementation but it's still fucked up because if i change direction at the wrong time it doesnt update properly and breaks the background. i'm just a little burnt out but i'll figure it out

are you the advance wars guy? always thought that project was the tits
>>

nah he's way further along than i am. i'm still pretty new to ASM in general, but i agree his project looks neato

What was the last really fun romhack you played? I'm looking for some recommendations. For me, it had to be Shotgun Mario64. Such a ridiculous idea but it was done so well that it just feels natural and it actually adds to the game's jumping mechanics.

I've spent the past 4 months learning m68k assembly and disassembling one of my favorite games, but I haven't gotten a single star on GitHub. What is even the point? No one is going to make romhacks of this and no one will hire me because of this. Seems like a waste of time.

What game was it?

I’m playing final fantasy II extend for NES. Just search ファイナルファンタジーハックロム on google and you’ll find it.
It has to be the best version of final fantasy 2 out there, at least for NES
1. Automatic fast walking speed, vehicles move very fast
2. Encounter rate much lower
3. Completely new menu system
4. Battle cursor memory
5. Up to four preset commands in battle
6. Change rows and equipment mid-battle
7. Inventory system now unlimited, better organized, more like GBA games
8. Has this new monster loot system for Gil I suppose? I actually don’t know if the drops serve any other purpose I haven’t made it that far
9. New areas. Like inside the Chocobo forest is a completely new dungeon
10. Equipment now tells you change in battle power, magic interference, hit rate etc
11. Lots of weapons, with different aspects to them, some weapons have auto target enabled, some can attack from back row, some are better two-handed.
12. Spells are just better
I have no idea why it hasn’t got much attention it’s fucking great. It looks like the creator isn’t done with it, but has taken a long hiatus recently.

And no one else's? Also shouldn't you need to make editors with GUIs first? Not just do blind python coding?
>>
>>12370970
Hear me out:
>Install GB Studio
>open their little tutorial game
>dump the engine
>open the engine files in notepad
>see if there is any code you can use in your project
Even if you reject this idea and hate me for mentioning GB Studio, don't give up on your game fren.

Should I use this to play Arcana for the first time? Being honest the retranslation is what interests me, the QoL are whatever.
>>
>>12377879
Well the original translation is literal gibberish. I played the latest version of this hack awhile ago, it was much better, not that there is a whole lot of story, but it at least makes sense. Here's an example from the original game, where a villain is trying to threaten you:
>Wait, don’t move. The Princess is dying. I wonder, Rooks!
and this hack:
>Don’t move, Rook, or the Princess dies.
