Was this the first modern survival horror game?
>>12474362Modern sure but Alone in the Dark was the first.
>>>/trash/
>>12474362No? Are you retarded? Titles like alone in the Dark already existed, with dogshit tank controls and pre-rendered backgrounds. Even before then horror games existed with resource management. The genre has also completely shifted and dumped essentially everything RE1 introduced. RE1 is the most middle of the middle era. Why do (YOU) post bait like a faggot? Saged.
Define modern.
>>12474362Alone in the Dark, which this game ripped everything off from it.
/v/ermin thread
>>12474932Really cool game
>>12474373Alone in the dark is not modern and the other games were point & click, not survival horror.
>>12474362Define modern. If you mean modern as in today, then no, that would be Resident Evil 4.
>>12475186>Resident Evil 4>survival horrorPick one.
>>12475186i think Amnesia PT and Outlast are the titles that matter most for modern horror. RE4's descendants are more enemy design driven in stuff like Uncharted, Gears of War
Sweet Home
>>12474932Alone in the dark trilooger here, completed these games an embarrassingly amount of times, to a point i can replay them in my head...Not really? RE is far to action-y (even though you can just sprint past everything). However, the OG AITD had a fair amount of combat as well,I think it's more in line with Alone in The Dark 3. Just with less scenario variety and weird shit.Less scary as well, because you never feel truly alone. If you turn off AITD 3 music and leave the stings and sound FX on, it's a genuinely frightening game. Really. I know the graphics are shit, but if you get into it and let your imagination take over, it's wonderful.Whereas RE, is simply... it's RE. There's always people around and scenarios, while cramped, feel somewhat familiar.Silent Hill is much better at this. (At what RE tried to be). Except maybe it gives the player way too much ammo
>>12474362RE was never scary
