Anyone played this spin off? It's almost enjoyable with its weird story and setting but it got ruined by awful combat system
>>
>>12503954
Survivor 1 is cool as a spinoff game and a pretty big deal for me as a kid imo, getting to explore that early 3D in a first person perspective was cool at the time, even if its a bit silly when they keep spamming Tyrants at you when it took the entirety of the B scenario of RE2 just to kill one. Never played Survivor 2, the weird on rails Code Veronica adaptation and I dont know if I really have any desire to

Is there a ng+ in original 3? I find it so hard to not use a little map guide so I don't miss those invisible items in a random spot you need to press X on. I hate using it and just want to play the game but I hate missing shit even more. I just threw a lamp and blew up Nemesis in the restaurant with Carlos.
>>
>>12505540
The battle system isn't the worst.

The worst is the fact that ammo is really scarce and bosses can easily eat up your stack. Enemies that drop ammo are constant, so my experience was learning which enemies drop ammo, restart the game, kill those and dodge the ones that don't. But they did something right with the mechanic that consists in baiting enemies by aiming at them, to make them move so you can dodge then them; but while making sure not to aim too long or you'll start a fight.

And then there is
>check room
>it's empty
>progress in the story
>that room now holds important key item or weapon
>there is no hint or any reason to go back to that room

Finally got lured by all the talk about RE9 and wanted to give the series a try. Started with RE1 Director's Cut Dual Shock Ver and absolutely loved it, I think it's one of my instant favorites. Really tense first playthrough, barely had enough supplies (totally missed the magnum), and killed Tyrant with 3 seconds left on the clock as Chris. Immediately booted it up again to play as Jill and beat it in half the time and felt like a god.

Can't wait to start up RE2 but have a feeling it'll have trouble living up, the mansion was just so fun.
>>
>>12505540
I don't think instant 8 way 2d control really jells that well with resident evil's premise, makes sense that they had to incorporate the rpg battle system, navigating zombies in real time would be too easy if that was the extent of the gameplay.

I actually quite like both Survivor 1 and Dead Aim. They're short, fun little games and the former one actually has a lot of replayability. I'd say they're like 7/10s.
>>
>>12510730
Started it up last night. Gorgeous looking, they really amped up their texture and animation work. Seems like this game might have more "cinematic" moments? First stretch was just running as Leon from cutscene to cutscene, but now I'm at the police department so I think it'll open up a bit.

>>
>>12512079

>>
playing the classic games again and one thing that really stands out to me is the pillar of navigating enemies in physical space I.E. using tank controls to steer around them. a lot of modern control schemes just don't really allow for that nuance, you either kill the enemies or you take damage or you're in a position to avoid them completely.
>>
In 1997 you could release the same game but with different camera angles and a demo and print money
>>
>>12512974
I fin d it baffling, tank control games are D-pad games, if you are using the stick for them you're a fake gamer. Jill and Chris move digitally, they don't have 360 degree movement or aiming so why bother??
>>
How much do you remember about the games after not having played them for a while? The sewer/industrial rig rooms all blend together but the first area of each game sticks hard
>>
>>12513115
I like the labs, they're a cool way to end the games imo. I hate the sewers though, and it's funny how sewers are almost always the worst part of every game that features them, not just RE.
>>
I'm replaying re2 right now for the first time in quite awhile, and I think it's over maligned as being too easy at least through the police station. ammo is surprisingly scarce, until you have your full kit you kind of have to rely on juking and smart routing to get by without getting chomped repeatedly. the dogs and lickers in the basement can easily fuck you up if you're even the slightest bit sloppy.
are you going to die a lot necessarily? no. there's enough health to get you through but you are going to struggle unless you're a pro.
>>
>>12514090
Damn I'm actually having a hard time (just started RE2 for the first time). So far feels a lot harder than RE1, mostly because I'm finding very little healing compared to how much 1 throws at you, and Leon moving slower when he's weak.
>>
>>12514174
>say code veronica is too hard snd they got softlocked
what?
>>
>>12514447
you literally didnt answer my question
>>
People overstate the softlocking in CV. You can finish the Chris section just fine without leaving anything for him in the item box. He'll get the shotgun anyway.
>>
If you beat the real RE1 (SLUS-00170) then RE2 is laughably easy. It feels like you're always overstocked on ammo and weapons.
>>
>watch resident evil x review
>blah blah blah development blah blah blah story blah blah blah this is how tank controls and weapons work blah blah blah players must find items to progress
Why are all Youtubers like this? Why can't they just give their opinion of the game instead of reading off wikipedia and tcrf?

It's the best Gun Survivor RE game. It's got a lot of early 2000s game charm (the presentation and soundtrack kind of call Tekken to mind, especially something like Tekken 4) and the atmosphere of the cruise ship and underwater facility is actually pretty spooky. My only real complaint is that is very short even for a Resident Evil game and there's not really a lot in the way of post-game content, outside of being able to play as Fongling for the main game, and minor weapons/unlimited ammo tweaks
>>
>>12503954
I swear they made Jill's tits bigger in her first alt outfit. Maybe it's just because her shoulder pads were out of the way, but it was very motivating for me to keep playing
>>
>>12515053

I beat the REbirth PC port for the second time today. I went to my last save to see if I could get a good angle of her ass but I'm stuck in the laboratory with the self-destruct sequence so I'm limited in the angles. Here's Barry doing what the players are doing

I have never played any resident evil game apart from 4 and I didn't like it. I thought it was boring

I'm considering playing 1-3 for the first time. I liked Devil may cry 1

Is the game easy to understand in terms of what the next objective is? I hate being lost and stuck in videogames

Also how is it playing with keyboard and mouse ?
>>
>>12517787
I know that actually. But thanks
>>
>>12517784
>Is the game easy to understand in terms of what the next objective is
Doesn't usually spell it out 100% for you, but the next thing is almost always just "find a new key and use it on any doors it unlocks". On the scant few occasions that's not the next step the game will glow the room you're meant to go to.
>Also how is it playing with keyboard and mouse
I played with keyboard only and it was totally fine. ASDX + Arrow keys works fine for tank controls.
>>
>>12517784

As a fan of the first 3 when they came out, I was annoyed by Capcom's choice to ignore the established lore in the previous games, but I was a fucking nerd that discussed RE in old webforums. The gameplay was really good though, and I played the shit out of it on GC. When it came out on PS2, so many people I knew that just played sports games and shooters were playing RE4 and loved it.
>>
I finally beat 0. Holy hell...What the hell was that game? Pretty as hell but what the hell was that item placement and enemy placement? Feels like 90% of the game they resource starve you and then start handing out stuff like candy in the last area. Not even Code Veronica was that stingy.

Resident evil 4 on PC Vs Wii?
>>
>Barry poster posts all got deleted
B-b-bros I'm scared...
>>
>>12518459
As someone who played it the first time this month, it's really not. It's more about exploration and inventory management, creating a mental map of where it is you need to go and what items you have. Ngl, I used a walkthrough when I would get stuck or lost, but it didn't diminish the experience for me. I think part of the fun is learning the layout of what you need to do, and it has replay value in trying to beat the game faster with fewer saves once you do. The first game can be beat in under 3 hours if you know whats going, I'd give it a chance if you can

Man, RE2 must have had the industry salivating. I like it so far, to be clear, and it's a nice change of pace/companion to 1, but it's so much more linear.

>>
>playing through the original resident evil games
>enjoyed resident evil 1 and 2

I can see why people wouldn't like this one, I'm playing it and I'm not having much fun. I'm just two hours in and I've got six different quest items, but not whatever I need to remove the bolts to get the firehose to put out the fire or the book needed for the electrified fountain. And I don't have any real idea where to use the other quest items I have so I'm being forced to just wander the city only to discover that enemies respawn which really sucks.

>>
>>12520916
>Wait until you play the RE 2 remake
the shotgun is so wildly ammo efficient I got whiplash when I started playing RE5 again last week. Though at least in 4/5 you're encouraged to kneecap or stun enemies with a headshot and kick the shit out of them.
>>
>>12520916
>Still not sure if I'm going to play the original RE 4 or the remake first
This shouldn't even be a question. OG RE4 is genuinely one of the best games ever made, the remake is at best an okay game that strips out all the charm from the original.
>>
Played RE1 (the PS version) recently and loved it. Became kind of an instant favorite. The only thing I got stuck on was the fucking eagle/wolf medallions in the doom books. It was so obviously that the doom books were related to the puzzle to drain the fountain, but I couldn't figure out Checking them from a specific angle to open them and get the coins. Was this hinted at in any way in the game? I don't think anything else in the game reacted to being Checked from another angle so I never guessed that made a difference.
>>
>>12521037
The only item in the original that did something similar was the keys, as you could examine the back of them to reveal the icon and what kind of key it was. I think the musical score did something closer to the books where you could open the sheet music and have it revealed as Moonlight Sonata

Only played the US Survivor. Its alright but man it makes no sense why they removed light gun support. I got the 2nd one in the box with the guncon for a damn good deal, but I still haven't found a good deal for a jp ps2 to play it.

As for RE as a whole, I haven't enjoyed an RE game since 4. I remember when it came out, being sad it wasn't the fog version, but played it anyway. It was fun, but it being a mainline game felt wrong. I was hoping they would do more like REmake.

So when you play the original RE1 and get the unedited trailer with Chris smoking - when it then says RE - it's now his voice
>>
>>12524204
i find that hard to believe, capcom can't be that far gone
>>
>>12524212
I actually checked the steam store page. Trailer video is the entire intro, completely normal until the last 2 seconds... when true enough a "girl" is overdubbed. I hope that's not in the actual game. Not that I would be buying a busted PC version of a PS1 game anyway.
>>
>>12524318
It IS actually in the trailer of the OG game. Its not just the Steam store page. They've done in it the actual game.
It's even on the GOG version which is why people are pissed
>>
are the outbreaks worth playing solo?
>>
In the original game and the remake, why do Chris and Jill not see or hear the zombies wandering around on the second floor of the dining room at the start of the game? Why are they not visible until you go upstairs in either game?

The history behind RE 1.5 is the most autistic shit imaginable.
>>
>>12524916
That's just fucking disrespectful no matter who they got to dub over it. Even for nu-Capcom it's vile.
>>
>>12525864
the dining room you enter through the ground floor and the upper floor are two different physical spaces. reisdent evil doesn't have our universe's physics
>>12526157
That writer was so fucking based for forcing Crapcom to make Resident Evil a continuous series with a proper timeline and overarching story

I think I'm coming to the end of RE2 98 (I think at least, I'm at the laboratory which feels like the end) and it's interesting how much it seems to be a redux of 1 with much higher production values across the board. Has most of the same beats, the same structure, the same character dynamics.

I've enjoyed it, but as a game it feels inferior to RE1. They kind of want to shepherd you along to the next cinematic scene in a linear way compared to RE1 in which at least the mansion did feel a lot more open.
>>
>>12525864
They probably wandered in a little later.

>>12526307
>two different physical spaces
That's the gameplay reason, he's probably asking why they wouldn't be scripted to notice that there was noise from above.
I really think it's as simple as the zombies not being there at the moment, and that they got there while you were on your way.

>reisdent evil doesn't have our universe's physics
That makes LESS sense in this context, and is disproven by other games in the series letting you hear enemies in spaces above or below you in the same rooms.
>>
>>12528528
They have a similar formula but I never felt they were super similar.
Also, yes the lab is the last section of the game however you are not done yet because you have to complete the other character scenario, you will see when you finish your playthrough. I recommend playing it to get the full RE2 experience
>>
>>12528651
Just beat Leon A. I love how hard the magnum just destroys bosses. Should I do Claire A or Claire B now?
>>
What are more 3D games with RE like levels? KFIV, DeS, and DS1 come the closest. I guess games like Metroid Prime and Doom clones are also similar, but they don't really have the same sense of mood, atmosphere, and motivation for exploration for me. I have heard Amnesia is like it, but I am too scared to play run away horror games.
>>
>>12521894
That looks nothing like weed, you dumb fat fuck.
>>
>>12524185
It's not difficult at all, it showers you with items. It's just obnoxious to traverse.
>>
>>12528992
Look at the fucking date you retarded nigger
>>
>>12528825
Found the answer myself, no reason to do Claire A
>>
Man I thought Resident Evil 3 was bad but Code Veronica takes the fucking cake. The enemy placement fucking blows, the game is constantly putting you immediately in harms way where you can barely react and at times putting enemies just on the edge of areas of camera changes.
>>
Replaying REmake for the first time in years. God damn its so fun. I mean I knew it was good but I feel like I'm appreciating it a lot more sense its been so long.
Might go for all the achievements this time, I've never done real survival or anything.

good luck broski

A lot of ink has been spilled about how ass RE0 is but I really can't get over the fact that the controls screen gives you five options yet none let you swap A and B back
>>
>>12528976
Try the Tomb Raider quintology. Not the AI demake but the TRX projects.
>>
>>12531001
Back in 1996 RE1 let you freely rebind the controls to whatever the fuck you wanted, yet NONE of the subsequent games ever let you do the same thing. What the fuck were they thinking?
>>
>>12531107
IMO, the best control scheme for a RE game is Type C in the Gamecube remake where you push R to walk forward and the turning is done by the d-pad/control stick. Makes it easier to turn while moving, while also not having to worry about a deadzone where you have to stop moving to turn
>>
>>12503954
Nah but I watched a pretty great story explained video on them and they're looking to be my favorite.
>>
I've been playing the OGs on keyboard and arrow keys work really well as a control method. I appreciate how simple the games' controls are, I can do just fine on keyboard.
>>
>>12531132
Yeah that was great with the analog trigger that let you walk or run based on pressure. Should have been the default control scheme for the fixed camera games, but they were basically dead by that point.
>>
>>12519428
>crowd control enemies to group them up
>exploit this with a well placed hand grenade
How is this a bad thing?
>>12519558
Crow on the sign right next to the dog in the bear trap has one, there is another in the chainsaw house, and an incendiary in the house connected to the chainsaw house.
>>12519986
It's pretty obvious you have never played this game. Regardless of that by your logic the newer games are even worse where you can shoot them 3+ times at point blank and they don't even react.
>>12519575
While I don't know how you retards would gauge how many trannies play each version the REmakes have all objectively sold more than the originals and for the majority of "normal" people is the preferred copy by the very nature of it being the only one they have played. So yeah objectively more trannies have likely played the remake but percentage wise I suspect the originals are higher. If you wanna research deeper be my guest.

Awesome game. The Scenario A/B stuff was executed great. Felt like replaying the game, which I wanted, but with just enough shook up or made extra. Do the games after this still do the 2 characters thing?
>>
>>12532324
I'm p sure RE2 is the last game with this "mechanic". Like you'll still have games where you switch between different characters, but the idea of two different stories from RE1 got lost in the evolution of the games. Code: Veronica and RE3 have you playing as Claire or Jill and switch to other characters when the plot requires it, while RE4 lets you play as Ada in Separate Ways after already beating the game as Leon.
