Finished the original Soul of Evil: Indian Summer. It's cool to see in these credits names I've seen floating around for years and years like Frika, Kell, Ionous, and Ijed. A lot of talented people came together to make this happen, and it's a crazy fucking difficult mappack. Not for the faint of heart at all. Loved it. To upload a map or mappack to Quaddicted, it has to go through Spirit (webmaster), or negke, and they have a third guy now, but unfortunately too little, too late. This process could take days and days at a time, and no other major game community website on earth operates like this. So Slipseer was created which allows users to upload their own maps, mappacks, etc. without a bottleneck. Spirit also continues to make questionable website decisions such as the unnecessary forum redesign. One time he even nuked hundreds of ratings on accident, and it took him weeks to rectify this.

As of February 2026 nothing has been uploaded to Quaddicted, but it continues to serve as an archive of all things Quake where users can rate, and discuss Quake content. And if one wishes, one can upload their own content.

hey dudes I just stayed up all night polishing off the next version of Slipgate Rangers and it is now live for some saturday morning action. I packed in a ton of new features and some really fun shit I think, I had a blast testing it at least. Congratulations to Cocketlauncher the top ranger from last version. my next goal is probably going to making a proper nice HQ map instead of my repurposed start.bsp, if you have issues with any of the models delete that file and try connecting again for some reason quake loves corrupting shit I was going nuts thinking I fucked something up testing this shit, I have slow downloads enabled to keep that from happening its just some of the textures and sounds from the mission packs though.

It was a fun movie when I didn't know Doom 3 was a thing because my dad thought it was too violent for me, nor had I known anything about the first two games besides seeingba single screenshot from a 1994 magazine. I actually really like it, it's generally a fun low-brow scifi action flick that's not quite Starship Troopers in quality but still rode on the 90s action movie fumes somewhat.

It's a fun and funny mod. Lots of people here (or maybe it's the resident dumbass samefagging) seem to write it off as trans-adjacent for some unclear reason, but there's no cringe in the assets unlike in say Diamond Dragon.

Some will say it's heresy, but I think Doom Deluxe reminds me a lot of Sgt. Shivers and Yholl's work. It's lighthearted enough to prompt the occasional smirk, really deepens the mechanics without being overdone, has fun melee weapons and everything is just punchy and really well-animated.

Comparing it to BD is strange, because they're just different approaches to modding. BD makes everything edgy and approaches realism, DD is more like say Zagemod or Complex Doom. It's a tad, more mechanics, souped up monsters and generally speaking, it wants you to engage with all its system - you can stun monsters, debuff them in various ways and even make them fight each other for you. BD hands you a shotgun and tells you to headshot barons into the ground, DD lets you bitchslap them around and make them pummel the dumbass imps around the corner. Hopefully this helps.

Yeah I was watching a lot of Vytaan on Youtube as well while Coin and Decino were silent.
I like watching good DOOM players play exceptional WADs like, before bed, when actually PLAYING DOOM would get my heart pumping too much, and I definitely prefer watching it when there's commentary provided. I wish some of the other better players like Ancalagon provided commentary.
Plus, I feel like I learn things from watching players who are better than I am. I took a break from playing DOOM recently but kept watching a lot of DOOM during that time, and I actually felt better at the game when I started playing it again.

I'm playing MechDoomer with Nostalgia mapset, but these techbases are too cramped for battlemechs. I'm not good enough yet to play these maps. Suggest me some mapsets that have some more open space and not too high difficulty.

Loving this mod overall. I enjoy how autistic it is and how I have to scroll through my weapons in an obnoxious way to assign firing groups. And I mean that genuinely, I like that part.

I'm gonna be real with you, setting aside whether or not it's "retro" this has a lot of problems visually. The max brightest floor ruins any potential look you have here. For something with dark in the title, your lighting is completely terrible. It also just has that undenialable look with the HUD and weapon view models that you're just throwing shit together rather than putting together a cohesive look.

You should ultimately take this somewhere else because as another anon said, if this isn't a retro engine, it doesn't belong here, but I will give you one last point. The floor should not be the brightest thing in view unless it is the light source. It's always gonna look weird as long as the floor is brighter than everything else like it is.

Trying to bring some approximation of IES light cones to Quake 2.
Baked a cone sprite and light ring in Blender using one of the lights from this site: https://ieslibrary.com/
The cone is a corona via the misc_flare entity, and ring is just an EricW Tools texture projection light.
Not really happy with how the cone looks in-game, but once I dial that in I'm going to put together a whole collection of these things.

On map12 on skill 1 and 2 there is a baron and an archvile stuck together in a teleporter near the bathrooms. I think the archvile was not intended to have the easy skill flag.
