Hello anons. I'm working on some maps and I would like to ask you a few questions.
Currently making an episode zero of a bigger pack to start off, using standard Doom textures, but I plan to make custom ones for future episodes. Intended for DSDA and comp level 21.
Very few hitscanners, I'm way more into arena fights, or at least dancing with projectiles rather than corner peeking.
Maps are rather big and detailed. Picrel has something like 40k+ sidedefs. Mostly arena fights, but there's also some tight spaced ones with less enemies. A bit of platforming here and there.
Each episode is to start off with lower enemy count (like 100-300), getting closer to what I believe would be considered a slaughter map by the end (M8 has about 1,5k enemies on UV and about half of them are revenants).
Mostly reliant on super shotgun and rocket launcher. I don't enjoy blasting through ten thousand cells with BFG every fight, although BFG segments are present as well.
Balanced around pistol starting, for all difficulties except nightmare cause I'm not good enough with it to balance it out. The amount of ammo is the same on all difficulty levels, but monster count and types are different. UV max requires some infighting to be utilized but not a lot.
Visually it's mostly dark, but not all the maps are. Landscapes change a lot, but there's obviously hellish and tech base stuff. Backgrounds outside buildings are completely dark (brief tl;dr of already brief lore: hellish dimension inside a black hole), and there's some blinky light effects, but not that much. I've heard this is considered slop by some people. I don't plan to overuse neon colours, even once I get to custom textures.

I'm asking for feedback since I have played less WADs than veteran anons out here for sure, and I've noticed there's some aspects of modern mapping that people don't like.
What do you think anons. Any slop or garbage in general you can already smell from this description?
