Doom crushers, love 'em or hate 'em?
As a feature that can easily kill you for making a single mistake, and one that's used often just to be a dick to the player, you could easily grow to not like them. But it can also introduce strategy to an encounter in a way damaging floors can't. That's to say I think I'm not a huge fan myself, I'd rather have a death pit.
Any funky ideas for crusher usage? WADs that do it well?

Crushers can be thought of as ~70hp or ~1000hp (i.e. fatal) damage sectors with visible timing
Known crushers are okay I guess, bit irritating to have one's movement restricted, but otherwise they're not too different to damaging floors in gameplay terms, at least in the way I look at them as a player
Surprise crushers are annoying especially if they are the deadly kind (in which case they essentially act as a recent savegame check) but the fast ones that take 60 or 70% off your health can be "fun" to give the player a scare (especially if you can be reasonably sure he can survive one round of compression) -- the amount of damage is comparable to a successfully landed archvile attack
Entice the player with a soulsphere, but make it so unless he is unusually nimble (or forewarned, on a second playthrough) hit him for 70 health when he touches it -- he still comes away 30% better off than he started, but he won't be trying that again in a hurry...

Check out FastDOOM while you're at it. It has novert by default, some pretty crazy video modes including some using text characters, and just more options in general. It's also more optimized than the original exe as the name implies, so you could even get some relatively playable framerates on a 386 by tweaking some of the options:

Maps with relaxing and comfy music are underrated. Weather Report using Fogger from Red Alert was a great idea, it made me feel so nostalgic for the late 90's, more so than any Duke or Doom map I've played so far.

I’d also recommend Return to Na Pali Ultimate Edition over the original expansion, it adds in levels that were cut from the base game and ditches the voice over scenes to make it feel more like the seamless, vanilla campaign.

Pretty much, but for Zephon you wouldn’t know from looking at or playing it: It uses all Unreal assets - the weapons, the hud, the enemies, and controls just like the original Unreal. Unreal Gold itself is basically the original game plugged into the UT engine, and if you’re feeling kind of nutty you can even load a lot of UT mods through Gold.

My biggest gripes are the projectile weapons are useless against dodging enemies, and it gets way too dark in interior spaces.

I don't miss Quake II's repeating enemy jumpscare placements however, or brown-castle-sewer levels. I will get to Quake 64 after.

The trick to Unreal's enemies isn't to prevent them from dodging, but to get them to dodge where you want them to be. If you get the angles right, you can consistently fool a Skaarj into rolling in the path of your shots, or right into knockback damage and off of a ledge.

Lost Civilization is damn pretty and apart from being unable to enter every building, you wouldn't really catch on to the fact it's running on a slightly more advanced port (it's Boom-compatible). We Have Doom at Home also has some lovely spaces.

It is time for strong men to create a WAD that rebukes all the troonworld and trooner boards slop. A WAD that will ignite the Roman fire inside you. Only real men would be permitted to play this WAD. Doom is not a game for women or faggots, but for strong men who know that their place is at the top and wish to use their power to dominate weaklings. Men such as me.
My ideas for this WAD:
* You must provide a DNA test, a blood sample, and a picture of your face to start the game. The game will close if you do not meet the requirements. I highly doubt many of you will be permitted to play my game.
* The WAD will celebrate strength and inner power only. No weapons or armor or items. You only use your fists.
* A fatality system better than any game that has come before. The demons/humans will be unaltered from their base (except for former humans who are replaced with living UAC soldiers of both sexes), but instead of killing him quickly you tackle him to the floor and force your 12 inch long penis into him, this restores your health to full. The demon/human will remain alive after your domination, but will walk around listlessly and will not even recognize your presence. You may even perform a fatality on a demon or human multiple times. Because there will be no items in the game, you must do this a lot to gain health.
* Hell will be described as being "in the East".
* My manifesto will be included with the game.
If I finish this WAD there won't be any need for anyone to create any more games.

Meeee... Kinda burned out on the mapping currently so taking a break for a few days but this is my current project. This is map 2 in likely a 5 part episode. You start in sub level 2 in a lab's holding cells and have to make your way up to the surface and escape. As you can see in map 2 the elevator is locked down. I liked the idea of building the first few maps around an elevator so the room you spawn in is also the exit.

Best looking wads imo are those that throw a shit ton of decoration sprites everywhere. Like Build games, but making it even more intense. All kinds of grass, flowers, hydrants, signs, posters, arcs, and whatever else. Using billboard sprites like this is a very strong part of aestethics even by modern standards when you think of it deeper and realize you get all kinds of artsy NPR this way, because sprites include artistically prerendered perspective. It's way harder to incorporate this in modern games and they feel very lacking in this department by depending on uniform 3d perspective for everything other than minor baked AO and highlights that exists only in the most "painterly" ones.

I normally take out one group of HK's, and (hopefully) have the cyber take out another group, to create a safe spot behind the pillar there.
That said, this first area isn't the biggest problem in the map, even if I only manage to survive it maybe 10% of the time. It's that there's 3 more fights after it which are also really difficult.

ECWolf for vanilla. Gives you modern resolution, framerate support, as well as an automap which sucks by default unless you enable a setting that should be enabled by default:

Brutal Wolfenstein is phenomenal as well, but it's a TC at the end of the day, albeit a faithful one to the source. I personally consider it to be the definitive version of the game, so if for whatever reason you just can't get into vanilla Wolf, just play this instead.

Amalgoom is weird to me because both the maps and songs feel like they take a lot of creative liberties in that concept of "let's mix the two together".
DeXiaZ Fantom I think did a project mixing D1, 2 and Final Doom maps together and the map 01 still looked like it mostly relied on existing parts of the maps and didn't get too creative with it.

The trouble is there's no better word with its very specific meaning. "Decline" or "deterioration" are too general, they don't cover it. I agree the use of expletive is not laudable but that's how the world works now, being vulgar and offensive is how you get attention to your cause.
