Who names a shmup after a minivan anyway? The Gameboy wasn't noted for this genre because there was no way to have turbo controller support so the developer's solution was 10 fps framerates so you have plenty of time to react to enemies without button mashing.

As this anon said, the 6502 is a potato. it takes so much code to do anything compared to the LR35902. A given Gameboy title will only need half the ROM size it takes to do the same game on the NES.
