Sorry for the hiccup guys, the captcha check has been an especial ass to me today. It lets you text promises, but fails you the instant you try to deliver on them. I fucking hate the internet.
The captcha is essentially an iq test which i fail a lot of the time.. and i feel like a doofus.
>Try to replay Scourge of Armagon>Hey, this is fun, why did I only play it once?>The spike mines show up, hidden on high ceilings and spawning behind you to silently kill you instantly>Tiny rooms filled with fiends>Vores, vores everywhere>The atmospheric music is replaced with some generic stuffOh, oh right.
>>12766237It's more cinematic but I wouldn't say generic. It's quite flavorful, just not the Quake you'd expect.
Whats that wad about dementia called? It has completely slipped my mind again

>>12766321Yes, but half the time they're above your head when you enter a room or spawn behind you, it's kind of bullshit unless you know exactly where they are. It's certainly not Quake's best content.
>>12766413no they arent youre right but I do like the occasional annoying enemy on the roster. It has amazing tech base levels though levelords stuff is solid
>>12766320Since when "I love doom" anon has stopped posting? It couldn't be that Quake or Build games has took him over, otherwise he would've claimed so in the way of "I love Duke", or "Quake", or something. I'm getting worried.
>>12766514Speaking of missing anons, what about the guy who secretly lived in his workplaces basement for years? How's he doing? The one with the elephant plushie from his dead fiancee?
>>12765314>>12766071This was discovered by kgsws in late 2020[1]. It has yet to reach the same level of wellknownness as the likes of "berserk lasts the whole level" or "blue armour absorbs more damage than green".________[1] https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/118158-undocumented-vanilla-bug/
How awesome is psydoom. Love the pants shitting psx vibe
>>12766514IIRC, he stopped because he was led to believe the system was recognising his repeated posting pattern as spam/abuse. I think he was mistaken but was not able to convince him.
>>12766541Funny how people still keep learning new shit on occasion about such an old and well loved game.
>>12766571Indeed, did you know only two years ago they found an entirely new type of ghost monster?https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Ghost_monster#Boom_ghost_monsters
>>12766519that guy made it out and got a girlfriend too I think
>>12766598He also got a new job as a professional Fred Durst impersonator.
Were the weapon/enemy models in Scourge & Dissolution given HD models in the KexQuake update yet, or are they still chunky?
>>12766643Still chunky from what I can tell. There's a reason they replaced the model for the laser cannon entirely in the new expansion.
>>12766646Is it a rights issue that's preventing them? Because I thought one of the studios that made them (I can't remember which) is defunct.
>>12766646I get the idea that after DiOTM used only base Quake 1 enemies and weapons, they really wanted to finally use the expansions' content for DaOTM like they did with COTM in Quake 2, but only got as far as taking Dissolution's Lava Men (formerly Hephaestus) and making a legally distinct laser cannon from Scourge. And then from there they just made all new weapons and variants of the OG enemies as consolation. Maybe in the third "X of the Machine" Q1 expansion in 2031 they'll finally manage to bring them all together. But until then, I'm more interested in seeing if the inevitable Quake 2 30th anniversary expansion will finally include the PSX mod, make actual usage of Iron Maidens and the Black Widow, and unrape the Railgun and ETF Rifle.
Can we post DOOM reaction images
>>12766715
>>12766696It was odd how they added ONE SINGLE black widow into the Quake 2 episode and it wasn't even a dramatic reveal, it was just dicking about in a sewer part.
>e4m6
:/
>>12766696I like DaOTM with it having new enemies and stuff unlike DotM, but I'd love to have the gremlins, or something like the dragon with an HD model show up.
>>12766858Is this VR? If yes and it's your vid, how is the experience? It looks fun as hell but I can't justify spending the money on a setup. Maybe a used older one.
>>12766938Yeah, I played it on Monday with some anons from vrg. I think VR works pretty well, it really lets me appreciate the scale and atmosphere of maps more, but things like strafe jumping is hard hence everyone running in a line at a set speed.
>>12766943It looks fucking fun for sure
>>12766943Why is it every time I see VR footage it's always at an angleAre the headsets that heavy or does everyone have a neck lean they just unconsciously ignore?
>>12766320I think it was either Sigil or Sigil II.
>>12766946You hit the nail on the head
>>12766541>berserk lasts the whole levelErm, actually, it doesn't last the whole level, it lasts for 122,713,351 seconds.
>>12766945Watching it and Perfect Dark VR have been the only times I've said "man I want that."
>>12766962Which is about four years. Are you going to spend four years in a map?
>>12766979MAYBE YOU DON'T KNOW ME OR WHERE I'M FROM
Eviternity 2 map 24Probably the hardest map so far. Kind of annoying to single-segment because the hard fights start 15 minutes in, but I only died there once so I won't complain. The secret BFG helps a lot.
>>12766981Damn that must be one hell of a map.

>>12766760That was the most brutal pistol start for me of all of Doom 1.
>>12767019i would probably like the map if there wasn't a cyberdemon at the end
>>12767042Pretty sure I beat him with peekaboo shooting, which didn't feel very satisfying.
>>12767046i did the same but the rockets had a hard time autoaiming which was a pain
Nearly done saving all the babes in the first 3 eps of Duke. I've learned to use the shrinker/freezer to safely pick off the enemies and lure them away before teleporting all the babes out and away from the bombs. Pic only semi related since I'm much further in.
>>12766962I don't understand why you'd code something like this. Why assign it a timer at all?
>>12767106why write a new code function for how long something lasts when you can just repurpose code from another powerup and say it lasts over a year (so far longer than a player should ever spend on a single map) and then move on to a more important task? Same result on the user end - less work flow.
>>12767114Is it really a "new function" to just activate a thing via toggle?
>>12767075>Rescue the babesWAT.
>>12766962I'm surprised no source port has ever fixed that, if only to be able to write "Bug fix: berserk no longer expires after four years" in the release notes.Of course it would need a compatibility option to preserve the old behaviour in existing demos. Maybe MBF2y will do it.
>>12767042>>12767046>>12767060Doesn't the map basically give you a BFG and an invulnerability for that?
>>12767135it's a mod called save the babes:https://kidmarscat.itch.io/savebabesYou can set it to save only the ones who have been clearly captured but I am using the rescue all babes version instead.
>>12767143I never got them. Probably would've been less satisfying with the invuln.
>>12767106If I'm understanding your question correctly, there is no explicit timer for berserk, the maximum is an artefact of integer overflow. So, yes, the powerups are all gated by timers--simple integer variables, updated once per game tick, in p_user.c. Their values are interpreted as flags: if non-zero, you have the powerup, otherwise you don't. Instead of being set to e.g. 60 seconds and counting down like the other powerups, berserk is set to 1, and counts up. The value is used to in a calculation in st_stuff.c to gently fade out how red the screen is tinted.I don't feel like explaining integer overflow in full--I'm not an LLM, after all--but it eventually reaches the maximum value of a 32 bit integer, whereupon it wraps back around to zero, after which the game no longer thinks you are berserk, and stops counting up.The maximum value is 4294967295 which divided by 35 (the number of tics per second) gives the value the previous fellow said. Dividing it further by 86400 (seconds per day) gives 1420 days, a little short of 1461 which is 4 years.
>>12767157I like to just leave the podgirls to their fate.
refuelling base was made by a twisted man
>>12767175But think of the medical industry's profits! If saved, they'll need years of therapy and counselling! Cha-ching!
>>12767178If you can't handle Tom Hall's halls, you're not a real man.
>>12767169>I don't feel like explaining integer overflow in fullThat's OK, anon, I kinda get it (I have a teensy bit of coding experience). I just didn't know this was a case of that. I'm still not clear on if they intended the powerup to last forever or not, if they coded it to count up from 1. I'm grateful for it though, because berserk is a shame to take away at all. Does it really harm balancing if I can gib an imp with my fist past the 60 second mark? I don't think so.
>>12767179But WHAT IF in reality they're consenting adults. The "Kill Meee" is just the cringe they feel around Duke.
>>12767187>I'm still not clear on if they intended the powerup to last forever or notGiven that the limit is absurdly high, and that it only exists as a side effect of the implicit maximum value of a machine word rather than being explicitly written in the code, I am confident in stating that they intended it to last the remainder of the level.
>>12767183i'm getting there slowly
>>12767178At least there's a shotgun right at the start.

>>12767178My favorite D2 map. Tom was really onto something, they had to fire him before Doom 2 maps got fun.
>>12767195Would she rather be stuck in an alien slime cave with a man or a tentacle monster?
>>12767221You're fineIf this is your first playthrough, take your time, savour it as much as you can. You won't get a second chance to play the game for the first time, after all.
>>12767157Duke Nukem 64 pioneered this idea, and I'm all for it. Duke should be saving babes, not blowing them up. It's also a fun thing to tally.>Did you find all the babes? NO? Search the level a little better, bro.Duke Nukem Zero Hour even had unlocks based on finding all the babes in certain levels. And rescuing gave them double-entendres to tell Duke.>"OH DUKE, I KNEW YOU'D... CUM."Genius.
>>12767294>Duke should be saving babes, not blowing them up.Interesting how 3DRealms said "no" and also placed some items where you'd have to kill them to get them.
>>12767195Kek
>>12767306>placed some items where you'd have to kill them to get them.Everyone gives Spec Ops: The Line a lot of shit for that white phosphorus scene and its overall message to the player, but 3D realms did it first.
>>12767306Some enemies also only spawn in when you kill babes so it's a necessity if you want to get 100% kills
>>12767319kek
>>12767319>that white phosphorus sceneThere's something morbidly amusing about the thought of Duke walking through the charred remains of bimbos with huge tits and then blaming it on the aliens.
>>12767320the enemy counter is broken though, there's no point going for 100%
>>12767320>Some enemies spawn in when you kill babes and are needed for 100% killsI knew Toby Fox was a hack. What other games ripped off Duke Nukem 3D?
>>12767290it's my first time actually sitting down and trying to complete every d1+d2 level, then i'll play the master levels, plutonia etc
>>12767320This isn't true. If it were, I'd never have gotten 100% kills on Hollywood Hollocaust or Red Light District because I never kill the babes. Monsters unspawned by killing babes do not exist as far as the level tally is concerned.
>Scourge of Armagon beatenMaybe it was playing it in the Nightdive remaster that made it unfun, or maybe it was that way from the get-go, I don't know, but I didn't care for it all that much and I don't remember loving it originally. Is Dissolution better? I remember it being better.
>>12767362>master levelsPro tip: don't.
>>12767336Is it? I wasn't aware of Duke having enemy count glitches. I only know of Rotfish in Quake.
>>12767376I don't remember having that much fun or strong memories with either official expansion. Though I did only play each once a piece.
>>12767372>I never kill the babesAh, my opposite is here.I ensure they all die, unless it;s funny or cinematic to let them live, like blowing up the rocket they're stuck in on the first secret level (come to think of it, you killed them too to leave that one).
>>12767383are they that bad?
>>12767376Armagon is easily the better of the two. I genuinely like it better than the base game.Dissolution is very jank. Even its best levels feel like they weren't fully realized.
>>12767396Not him. They're a mixed bag, IMO. I think people blow it out of proportion. Just play them once and form your own opinion.
>>12767234A question of our era. Really makes you think, don't it?
>>12767384yes, it's broken in Eduke and all other ports. The game counts enemies that only exist when the map starts, when something new spawns in the count just goes up. Slimers and eggs can sometimes break it and the counter will go overflow. Some maps have 1 or 2 enemies you won't be able to kill ever, like Red Light District. It's a multitude of problems. I never cared for 100% kills in Build games, just feels wrong and tedious
I like how the protozoid slimers can eat corpses. Has his behavior been done in Doom? I want to design a level where you keep one as a pet. You feed it corpses and watch it crawl around an enclosure...and that's about it. Maybe throw some cocooned babes for decoration inside.
>>12767480>Has his behavior been done in Doom?Project-Malice has an enemy like that called the Corpse Eater>Starts off as a melee-only imp-tier enemy with less health than a Pinky.>However, it can eat corpses of enemies you've slain, exponentially increasing its health and even scaling up its sprite a bit.>If left unchecked for too long, it will wind up having more health than a Baron of Hell.He can become a tanky son of a bitch, though. Maybe I'll pop into the Discord and suggest it evolving into a completely different monster after eating enough enemies.
>>12767490I love Project Malice. I guess I haven't seen that one yet. I've only been playing it for a few days. I'll see if I can search inside and figure things out...somehow. Otherwise I guess I could learn Build.
>>12767490If you do do that, can you also suggest/request they give -CANUSEWALLS to the small maggots and flies? I always thought it was silly maggots could open doors.
>>12767480they can eat living enemies too
>>12767532Really? I don't know if I've ever observed that. Enemies in the 'don't kill' me state or full health?
>>12767527>CANUSEWALLS>ANUS
>>12766982Fuckin battleship? Fuckin battleship that you get to actually USE? Fuckin saved, ty for posting
those alien bastards payed for taking our chicks and now I'm gonna give their whole species a goddamn abortion
>>12767332it is their fault once they start surrounding the women in a dozen bombs and literally shooting the women or a bomb upon seeing you before you can even see they had a hostage forcing you to reload. You have to pull the aliens out one by one or snipe with the cryo beam. Had to noclip to get one girl on Rabid Transit because there was no way to turn off that barrier.
>>12767556Yeah, in fact it happens in one of D3D's default demos taking place in Ep 2. They gobble up certain enemies (not Octobrains, not drones, and some other exceptions) But you might not see it much because eggs are usually around Octos more than anything.
>>12767556I've seen them eat full health lizard troopers, enforcers and pig cops.
>>12767490I love this idea for an enemy. It's another method of making a used battlefield and making it newly dangerous... like an Archvile but the context of the fight has changed.Protozoid slimers never live up to this because they can only ever have 1 HP.
>>12767639Cool. I love the idea of revisiting old maps but something is terribly different. Duke Nukem Zero Hour did this right out of the box thanks to time traveling to the post apocalypse.
>>12767652> actor->target == actor
>>12767648That gives me ideas...>>12767646Thanks for the info.
>>12767490How about the enemy divides in mitosis when it's consumed a corpse. In a body littered den that could become a nightmare very quickly even at such puny health.
>>12767716Would it be better if they eventually started eating each other and turned into a big one? Would also be cool if they could eat the player's corpse and it prevented resurrection.
>>12767639Very cool.
>>12767716>>12767726Seems like you could easily do 2 varieties... one that splits and one that grows.
>>12767396>master levels>are they that bad?Christen Klie's (CATWALK, COMBINE, FISTULA, GARRISON, SUBSPACE, SUBTERRA): crash course into 90's kind of amateur mapping.Jim Flynn's (MANOR, TTRAP): chock-full of experimentation, could do with some more polish.Tim Willits' (ATTACK, CANYON): don't leave an impression and are easily forgettable.Tom Mustaine's (PARADOX): a solid sampler for what you could find on the renowned megawad projects from that era.John Anderson's (GERYON, MINOS, NESSUS, VESPERAS, VIRGIL): if you ever wanted more of E4M7, it's all here in a consistent package.Sverre Andre Kvermo's (BLACKTWR, BLOODSEA, MEPHISTO, TEETH): best of the worst to various degrees, very uneven but also memorable. The most strikingly bad part the Master Levels is in the poor choice of its name.>>12766568I often get pestered with mail verifications and claimed site abuser, eventhough I don't post often, so you might be right.
One time I was playing Duke Nukem as a kid and my mom decided to sit in and watch me play. Thankfully it wasn't the red light district or she would have been mad, but I later learned she just thought Duke Nukem was hot.
Forgot to tell, there's this things on Mist map, no idea if it's something intended or just a visual glitch. I only played trough this map on Ironwail once and could notice them.

Final Doom and works like Memento Mori pretty quickly outshone the Master Levels. It's worth checking out for the history, but maybe only do one level a day, few would fault you for getting bored with them.>>12767556>>12767646>>12767648>>12767705I deadass had a Protozoid Slimer gobble up a live Mini-Battlelord once, unendingly goddamn funny to behold. >>12768167>Quake on the other hand has both combat and good level exploration due to the verticality."Doom wads" can extend to "GZDoom slop", maps that aren't beholden to vanilla Doom restrictions that can look and play great. That said, Lost Civilization (even though it's Boom) and Ter Shibboleth are two peas in a pod.>>12768186>Maybe something ARCANE like magic staves that throw enemies around or gauntlets that leach health or enchanted crossbows that act as railguns. Have you tried Mjolnir yet? You've just described some of its weapons, funnily enough. Some may argue it adds "too much" new stuff but I think it's incredible.
>>12768191>Have you tried Mjolnir yet?I have. The new weapons are cool (if lacking in polish), but there really are just too many of them and everything to do with encounter design seems haphazard so none of them really get a chance to stand out. I think I also had a bug where some of them would just vanish between levels too. Some vanilla Quake weapons just need to be replaced I think. Throwing the kitchen sink at the player doesn't help, it's just overwhelming.

>>12768205>Some vanilla Quake weapons just need to be replaced I think.I only really have a problem with the two nailguns, I think the game could do without one or the other. I'm indifferent towards the shotguns: I wouldn't mind if they shot slower and hit harder but I like how they feel as is. I'm fine with the rest.
Doom 64 map 5 took me a good half hour. Made me feel that 5 second forgetful confusion. I didn't realize there was a hole in the blue key cage ffs

I finally got the trune of sacrifice. Is it worth playing for the rest of the trunes? Does the game get progressively weirder as you collect the remaining trunes,or something?
>>12768176>Perditions Gatenta but i just read up that it was supposed to be in Final Doom, how does it compare to TNT and Plutionia?
>>12768332I think its a really solid 90s megawad for the most part, but you can really tell the final episode was rushed to hell.
why can't babes be real
>>12768039GGs
>>12766240>Dimension of the Machine has really poor enemy encounters compared to both Past and Dawn.If only because it rarely pulls any dick moves where it drops a wall and lets 2 shamblers into a small room with you. I'll personally take some beautiful levels with normal enemy placement over monster closet "gotchas."It could have gotten much harder than it did though, I will grant you that.
>>12768332IMO, while its not outright bad, its easy to see why perdition's gate didn't make the cut. The early levels are decent, but its rarely a proper challenge and most levels throughout are on the shorter side. The latter half is also pretty rough, with a streak of maps that were clearly made as slot fillers.
>>12768332I think it's kinda weak. Lots of very samey levels, and largely uninteresting visual design and gameplay. There's glints of goodness, but I did not like it much overall. One of the parts that offends me is that it has a number of neat sets of textures, which are used some, but only VERY briefly, then they go away forever and it's back to Tom Mustaine's boring as shit and formulaic brown bricks levels again. Perdition's Gate clearly needed some other level designers on it with more imagination, to actually exploit its variety of textures more and to break up the gameplay more.
>>12768636I think at the time that they wanted to offer it to iD, PerdGate was still only like 10 levels or something like that and far from finished, and who knows what actual state it was in at that time. The statement they got from iD was that "the window of opportunity had closed," which suggests they were just too late to offer it, so it may not even have been looked at at all.>>12768161It does, and it also gets worse too.
>>12768613I was going to cite some encounters from DotM that were just plain lame but>It could have gotten much harder than it did though, I will grant you that.I'll just take this and chill.
>>12768090As a Doomniggur, I always loved Quake.
>>12768161I will always hold the view that TNT is carried by its concepts and ideas more so than its execution. There are good maps, but you can definitely feel that it was made in 1995. I ultimately prefer Revilution and Devilution, thanks to their more modern interpretations.
It's "id", not "iD".

Finished replaying Quake 1 this morning on vanilla NM. Glad I beat NM just to say so but the consensus that making the enemies turrets isn't great is definitely true imo. Lots of peekaboo shooting and Ogres are just more exploitable. Episode 4 was better than I remembered, even Spawns weren't as bad, and Episode 3 seemed more sloppy and slapdash than I remembered compared to the rest. Maybe this is the moment Sandy alleges Tim Willits deliberately misinformed American McGee? Might try with the current version of Copper this weekend since I've heard good things. Or the expansions on Hard.

All the OG id software guys should regroup and form an alliance and make a new game but with the sensibilities and graphics of the old games and when they make millions of dollars they should be given the rights to their original IPs and then there would be world peace and pizza for everyone and we all get nailbox keychains that make the nailgun sound instead and /vr/ finds and kills that guy that keeps shitting up the board with gay threads and we all get kittens

>>12769013Definitely linear. Nearest only makes sense with palettized textures that are too crunchy and contrasted to look good smoothed. Also there are quite a few instances in Quake 3 maps where textures are scaled up across a large surface, which looks silly without filtering.

>>12770134It really is weird that ogres can't aim vertically when Carmack was fixated on showing off how 3D the engine was. Surely the aim calculations for an arcing projectile wouldn't have caused performance issues?
>>12770134>>12770140Later mods would mess with this liberally. Drake defaults all ogres to be z-aware. Arcane Dimensions has variants that are z-aware, but the default ogre is not. Violent Rumble 2 uses the Ogre Marksman as its z-aware variant. I don't remember if Keep / Mjolnir functions like Drake's but I would assume so. Checked the latest Copper just now, not z-aware there and that's a shame but oh well.I have not played Tomb of Thunder, but there's an anon around here who has. I'd be curious to know what that does.

But I found Raze (just turn off chicken man's filters)/Build GDX/NBlood fine too. I might have to use Raze again at some point just to play Alien World Order for Duke & once you got away from forced compatibility with every mod in existence Raze actually ran pretty well despite being GZDoom derived.I hate secret hunting and generally enjoy every map more when I can just know where every secret is - it's my main reason for not liking the Kex ports since they are missing any option to just easily see where secrets are like modern source ports for every other game. Otherwise the Kex ports are playable although I don't like not having free look enabled in a modern source port for Doom 1+2. Blood's old port was fine refuse to pay for the new one though, Strife I still use desu despite it's age, Heretic + Hexen I actually liked being able to swap characters on the fly although I do think it does break the game a bit later but with the amount of BS the game spams I don't really mind just switching to a class where the map is actually fun - I did like the new music in Heretic from what I've heard of it - level design got changed which I could just switch to the original maps so I was like eh and enjoyed the prettier look to Heretic - which I already thought was a pretty game. I still have to go through Quake 2 but Quake 1 has been fun even if I prefer ironwail/quakespasm etc.

>>12771486>If the ‘hipfire’ is miserable without it then I’m annoyed. Then navigate the level to the close-mid range. Enemies at a distance are there to oppress you, not so you'll enter a sniping duel like it's MGS.
>>12770935It is a thrill and when you challenge yourself and beat the challenge after failing many times you're on the top of the world. Some people live for that thrill and feel that it's ruined when there are no stakes. I don't play Doom that way but it's similar to what I like that's beating NES games without savestates
>>12771486Plus, if you play the game at the resolution at which it was designed there is no long-range or even mid-range combat because everything more than a few hundred units away shrinks to a couple of pixels and merges with the background.
Eraser is still top priority, but I have the Halo/Marathon-inspired mod to work on still.Personally, I think it's easier to make a map than work with code and sprites. It's not easy the whole way, but it's not bad eitherMarathon mapping is a bit harder in this way because the space requirements are so tight you have to have shit overlap if you want bigger maps/more places for the player to run around in, but keeping track of everything in the editor when it overlaps can get tricky. >>12772101Time and again the idea for some TC entirely made by myself with whatever I can scrounge together and no outside influence does cross my mind. It's been happening more often lately because of Alizarin, a community project I made a map for last year. It helps the premise was "make some weird creative shit" but beware, your eyes might implode if you stare at it too long.It reminded me of this short 2d shooter called All My Friends Are Dead and had me thinking I could definitely make something like that if I wanted to, I already do some scrawls when I want to do *something* but can't figure out why. Picrel's there for reference.>Marathon mappingI've been curious ever since I saw Marathon RED back in 2012, but I never felt like taking the plunge. >>12772145>I've been curious ever since I saw Marathon RED back in 2012, but I never felt like taking the plunge. The basics are pretty straightforward to grasp with the most annoying part being probably terminals and setting up visual mode when you're starting out but that's just figuring it out over an afternoon or whatever. It's really only bad if you're an ambitious dumbass who can't stay in the lines of the engine. Everything works pretty well if you're making a fairly normal map. Would strongly recommend giving it a shake if you're already mapping for Doom.>Will say that screencap doesn't strike me as particularly nastyIt's not the worst example but that's also just the thing that shows polygons elevations. You can have polygons overlap, even be the same floor/ceiling height. The issue is that the editor only has sliders to exclude anything over/under a certain height so if you have overlap, it can get very fucking annoying to place objects/fix things. Currently working on a map that's going to involve the player going up and down and the areas do overlap and use fake vistas and the like and it's rapidly spiraling into a confusing mess to actually work on areas.>Marathon is a very strange thing. It is a strange and baffling creature. Just as some examples:-The aforementioned overlapping thing is just kinda silly in how you can do it and the game has 0 issue with it because it doesn't consider unconnected polygon's relation to each other.-If a polygon has 7 or more vertices, it is prone to glitching out.-Likewise, if a point has 7+ lines running out of it, it will also glitch.

I think. It's been a very long time since I tried anything of the sort. But for other formats like Boom and MBF21, you're much more reliant on silent teleporters taking you to differently structured areas that give the illusion of ascending/descending a vertical space.>the numberJesus. I knew the obsession went deep, but not to *that* depth. >>12772567Kick ass, I'll be messing around with this over the weekend.
>>12772670>This is different. In the sense that even less people here think about and talk about Marathon. Though, its level editing software might have a lot less friction than Mapster32, so perhaps it might go smoother on that point.
>>12772729In the sense this is a conversation between two Marathon nerds who have been around the block, you mean. At no point did either of us imply anyone else should start mapping for Marathon.Others are welcome to join in, of course, but this really is me expressing some passing interest in Marathon mapping and someone else giving some tips and advice.
>>12772729>its level editing software might have a lot less friction than Mapster32My understanding is that the best way to mod Marathon is still to install Sheepshaver and fire up the original Forge, because the modern OS tools either aren't very good or only handle a third of the workflow.

Eviternity 2 the endWhile I enjoyed this, it really works better as a casual playthrough with saves, instead of trying to single-segment the maps. A lot of the maps start with 10-15 minutes of low-stakes base-sweeping, which isn't very interesting to do over and over again if you die later on. Fortunately I didn't die that much, in fact I got a lot of maps first try (after a practice playthrough with saves).Funnily enough the one map which made me not want to single-segment this (33) turned out to be one of the more fun ones to single-segment.

>>12773848You don't go into nightmare machine or fight cthon again in full bloody nightmare run, you stupid faggot. The final map and boss is completely different one.
>>12773885No it's not. /v/ has nudoom fags that don't even play old shooters much less map for them. It's not far from r/doom really. Dw makes maps and is not even having any retarded forum war vr. (They had with db, but db died because 40iq was retarded and gay.)
>>12773916oh yeah for sure I just wanted to see how it translated before I started making it nice I think I will go more splatter on the sides as opposed to that wading through blood look too.
>>12773856>I have a hard time imagining somebody being so overly pissed to deconstruct a 320x200 low palette image just to prove its ai. You don't have prove it's ai when it just looks like shit.>Especially ai used in a niche imageboard subforum speedmaping project with like, a dozen contributors? 99% chance that nobody's gonna touch the final release except for few people it will rot in the corner like 512 linedefs of /vr/ did, or Fore/vr/ alone, or Sub Mortem, etc.Typical ai faggot. Doesn't even play or respect our projects.
>>12773873>>12773960mental illness
>>12773960Go play oblige maps, robosexual.
>>12773956>Typical ai faggot. Doesn't even play or respect our projects."It doesn't matter if someone half asses this because no one will care about the project anyway" is such a deranged argument to make about a project that people have been asked to contribute to freely. Might as well just tell people you don't care or appreciate that they've contributed.

Is there a wad with an art style kind of like Salvador dali
>>12773717Think there's any relation?
>>12773851That's not bad. Only thought I have is having an orange background for orange numbers, maybe make the backdrop more red instead for better contrast?>>12773869I could maybe give it a look tomorrow if nobody else does. Right now I must sleep.>>12773960I hope you get raped by a wild pack of Pain Elementals. The Doom 64 kind.
>>12773717He looks like he has a horrible hernia and is just non-stop howling in pain over it. I like that.
>>12773970>oblige>not obsidian
>>12772394lel I wondered why I randomly got another sub>>12773198I will...eventually. I don't know much about waifus, though.
so this is how you get people to move their ass and actually put in work for once: propose an ai asset
It's fine to have dark spooky levels, but goddamn remember that this game and engine don't have flashlights. Sometimes can't see shit even if I turn up the gamma and the other stuff, even at the risk of making everything look crappy
>>12774309Later, without the gamma touched.
>>12773885You must lurk for 10 years before posting.
>>12774309>>12774341I just setup a keybind giving me free nightvision for maps like this if the sourceport doesn't have an easy way to fix this that also still looks good. Don't got patience for this light economy crap when I know flashlights are everywhere and last years before needing a change of battery.
This thing is massive. It's tanking my FPS like crazy.
>>12774497Would be easier and performance-wise better if the author didn't built the entire ship inside. On a proper 3D engine this could be easier, but could've used teleporters and other simpler stuff instead.
>>12773914Working on something Stroggy.
>>12773970Speaking of, did anyone actually try to integrate AI models into WAD generators yet? Even SLIGE got notoriety and witch hunts for its time, and randomized sloppa is more or less right up its alley for the intended design goals of it and its successors.
>>12774449I wonder where this artist is now, his Tumblr is dead.
NOBODY PLAUED MY WAD ON YOUTUBE
>>12774558>TumblrI'd wager to guess he's posting his art somewhere else.
>hm, learning doom mapping is pretty interesting. I'm starting to run into a few walls though, I wonder how you can achieve thi-...What the FUCK is a DeHACKEd?!?
Just cleared map 5 Hangar in TNT EvilutionWhy is this hated again? It’s fucking great so far and the music is awesome
>>12774504it's not inside of the ship that causes the lag, Build can handle big environments. It's the layers of TROR that are heavy on the engine, they used outside to make the ship and the cave look more 3D
>>12774703also to add to that, you don't see the whole innards at all times, it's just the bridge that has a window. The rest is blocked off, the engine does a good job at culling. Doesn't matter where the innards are technically built
>>12773937No shit sherlock. I was talking about reloading the save before bloody Chthon, going back through the portal to Nexus, getting the axe (so I would have it on ng+) and going back to Chthon, which also requires to beat the Machine again.
>>12774689I finished TNT few days ago and I see why it's hated. It's not all bad there's good new music and few good levels but it's mostly trash, oversized trash is the best way to describe it.
>>12774703>>12774707Damn, you're right.Cool spooky level tho
>>12774614It's kinda like romhacking, for altering weapons, enemies, objects, etc.>>12774689Opinions on TNT are widely mixed, some love it, some hate it.It's an uneven mess of a megawad, and I think there's some fucking shit in there, but I also think there's gems too. I always insist people give it a try for themselves, and while I expect there's gonna be parts they don't like, maybe so much they stop playing it, there's parts they might like, too.Anyway, you like it, which is nice, but prepare yourself for bumps in the road as you go.
>>12774563https://x.com/CACOBRO666
>>12774892Thank you.
>>12774689it has vibes I like a lot even if the level design isn't that great most of the time.TNT feels like a series of adventures. Weird and experimental levels that are frequently poorly balanced and starve you of resources. A lot of the difficulty comes from how batshit and overambitious the levels are rather than deliberate or good design. There's some levels I like a lot, but there's also just plain awful levels.
>>12774689While it's definitely overhated, it varies in quality a lot, very rough with some of its early attempts at big maps, and just plain bad in some maps. But some maps are absolutely great, you can definitely feel the adventure >>12774913, and even the worst maps are not that bad and not so numerous to make the whole thing not worth it.
>>12774173Ghoul's Forest 3? Yup, that's some real jumpscare horror alright. *sip*
>>12774932I think TNT gets overhated, but then occasionally I see people who love it more than is actually warranted.
>>12774689It's the last third or so of maps where the quality drops off, maybe halfway depending. MAP30 at least has an interesting puzzle. Firmly middle of the road with slightly higher highs and lower lows than Doom 2, it's grossly overshadowed to Plutonia being right there in Final Doom.
>>12775170Yes, outside of some weak maps in the middle, all the shit maps are in the third "episode".Here's my approximate ranking, just replayed it recently.MAP01: System Control 8/10MAP02: Human BBQ 9/10MAP03: Power Control 7/10MAP04: Wormhole 8/10MAP05: Hanger 9/10MAP06: Open Season 7/10MAP07: Prison 7/10MAP08: Metal 6/10MAP09: Stronghold 10/10MAP10: Redemption 6/10MAP11: Storage Facility 7/10MAP12: Crater 9/10MAP13: Nukage Processing 8/10MAP14: Steel Works 4/10MAP15: Dead Zone 5/10MAP16: Deepest Reaches 6/10MAP17: Processing Area 6/10MAP18: Mill 8/10MAP19: Shipping/Respawning 7/10MAP20: Central Processing 9/10MAP21: Administration Center 6/10MAP22: Habitat 4/10MAP23: Lunar Mining Project 3/10MAP24: Quarry 3/10MAP25: Baron's Den 6/10MAP26: Ballistyx 7/10MAP27: Mount Pain 8/10MAP28: Heck 7/10MAP29: River Styx 4/10MAP30: Last Call 2/10MAP31: Pharaoh 6/10MAP32: Caribbean 7/10
>>12774738yeah, Titan was the highlight of the episode. Apparently the whole thing, 3 maps, took the guy 5 years to build
>>12775186Interesting rankings, personally I really dislike MAP06 and MAP25, I think they're really awful.Stronghold is fucking ludo though, very fun level.
>>12775421Baron's Den is probably the most overhated TNT map. Everyone hate it, and back when I just started Dooming and first played TNT, it felt like the most disgusting and annoying map ever, with all the endless lava tunnel labyrinths. But it's actually a decent, and fairly linear map, and the lava floor is not really an issue. And turned out outside of the lava tunnels the map actually has some really cool pieces.Same with Open Season, when I was new it felt really disgusting, among the worst maps probably, but now I enjoyed it a lot.Steel Works is the opposite. Everything about it is good in theory, but in practice it's miserable to play through.
how do I fix this error on uzdoom?/usr/include/c++/16/bits/stl_vector.h:1253: constexpr std::vector<_Tp, _Alloc>::reference std::vector<_Tp, _Alloc>::operator[](size_type) [with _Tp = short int; _Alloc = std::allocator<short int>; reference = short int&; size_type = long unsigned int]: Assertion '__n < this->size()' failed.zsh: abort uzdoom ~/stuff/dl/doom/m12-hdoom_techdemo11.pk3
>the legless mastermind in Abyssal Apocrypha can be revived by ArchvilesOversight or feature? Unpleasant surprise eitherway
Are there any drop-in weapon mods? Like idk grenade-launcher.pk3?
>>12775453>Unpleasant surprise eitherwayMore or less unpleasant than the massive jumps in monster count at maps 19 and 20?
>>12775451in english please
>>12775451Looks like an array bounds check failed?Maybe hdoom_techdemo11 isn't compatible with that version of the engine. You'll have to give us more information, I think. Not much we can suggest at the moment.
>>12766221Sunlust: The Way We Remember It releasedhttps://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/159873
>>12775535I dont get those releases, same as the original version of doom or doom2 or whatever it wasjust go play the original, like what’s the interesting part? mobs are slightly shifted in numbers and locations? Red key is 2ft to the left? who cares enough to make a mappack out of this??
>>12775438I like Open Season, but it's not the lava that I hate about Baron's Den, it's the overall fuzzy progression that I dislike, complete with one of the keys being hidden away in a REALLY easy to miss manner. It may be less bad when you've played it multiple times, but for a first time play, that one is kind of an unforgivable Fuck You to the player. At least when Pharao was missing a key, that was an honest mistake which there's a patch for, and you can still bypass that with a not very hard straferun. Baron's Den hides a key as deliberate design, and the ONE potential hint is not just easily missable, they might wander out of there and you just kill them like any incidental combat, and then that's it, you're extremely unlikely to find it after that, whereupon you wander around for 40 minutes in a now empty level, until you give up and look up a guide or open the map in Doom Builder. It's an incredibly damning design choice to me, and the frustration and memory of it still brings it down bad for me. Compare to the Disaster Area in Mt. Pain, I think that's pretty annoying and shitty design, but if you exclude that part then the level isn't actually so bad, in fact I kinda like it. If you unhid the key in Baron's Den, that'd make the level a lot better, but it wouldn't make it like, good. At least to me.Habitat gets lots of hate, and partially it's deserved because it's an ugly map that isn't fun to play, but while this is a big map that sucks, you don't need to max it or get all the keys, you can plain head for the exit early and be done with as soon as you're able, which means SO much of the potential suffering is optional.
>>12775539The gimmick of "The Way We Remember It" series is that the authors are supposed to recreate a level entirely from memory, as close as they can without looking at the level in question.Whether or not that's a GOOD gimmick is another question (I watched some of Decino playing the first one, and it seemed like shit), but there's a certain appeal I guess in someone's fallible and incorrect interpretation of an existing level, in how it'd then potentially trip up people who are very used to said level, they can't necessarily count on their own memory when playing.
>>12775438>>12775558I may be misremembering or confusing it with another level but for what it's worth I seem to recall Baron's Den being quite starved of health and ammunition unless you go the correct way round it, so it's also frustrating as well as being for the most part a boring tunnel maze.I don't mind a boring tunnel maze, I like exploring, as long as I'm not also being made to feel anxious by being constantly starved of resources with death coming at any moment.
>>12775539I haven't played this one but in general I enjoy playing remakes of levels I already like, as they have both familiarity comfort value but also novelty value.
>>12775558I just launched the Den trying to remember what key you're talking about. Holy shit what a dumb idea. It's Eternal level of "fuck you", except Eternal actually expects you to suffer looking for keys and switches.
>>12775539>>12775663This one is a ebin shitpost mapset, the jokes kinda fell flat for me for the most part.Though the womb 2 joke being a Binding of Isaac map did get me.
>>12775451>hdoomGet out.
>>12775727Oh wait, I thought it was hdest, nevermind, you can stay.
>>12775730Don't try to pretend to be me, faggot. Get that gooner shit out of here.
>>12775535I notice a big uptake of furry/gender-bender/eunuch filled projects on our news reelBut maybe that's just how doomworld is in general nowadays...
>>12775568>Decino plays The Way We Remember It>the level where the whole map turns into an elevator because the author made it for the wrong source portAbsolute cinema
>>12775685>>12775760Obviously this was a mistake. It's not what I thought it was. Please don't put it the newspost >>12766221
>>12775675I don't like that much in Eternal Doom either, but at least with Eternal Doom, that kind of shit is a consistent gimmick through much of the set, it's a core theme. For Baron's Den, that key is just fucking tucked away in an anonymous little secret because go fuck yourself, and no other level in TNT does that.
>>12775734>>12775727Fuck off.
>>12775778what level is it? sounds funny
>>127757602x2 is there because it has one of /our guys/. I myself linked it. I just like to promote stuff that any fellow anons do, even if they themselves don't want to.I didn't link Abyssal Apocaryphca or whatever it's name was, but it's quite nice lovecraft-influenced wad. It seems it's made mostly by normal guys too and not usual discord inside groups.Troon groups as they are very rarely host open community projects and even more rarely they do it on dw forums, but discord instead. Dw as it is today is more of a release platform for multiple different groups, and I see no reason to not use it unless you are involved in some forum retard olympics. That being said, the Sunlust jokewad doesn't need to in our news.

Halfway through my first run of Quake's Hipnotic expansion. Might just be that I'm playing it on hard and had recently replayed Quake on Nightmare, but I'm enjoying the expansion more so far.
