Just started this game. Made my party>Human Paladin>Horc Barbarian>Halfling Thief>Elf Bard>Half-Elf Sorcerer>Human Priest of TyrThis a good party? I literally just got past the character creation, it won't be a big deal if I have to restart
Throw out the bard for xp boost. And get the iwd 2 ee mod.
>>3480713In ADnD, a rule of thumb is that fighter multiclass beats the regular class almost always. So a fighter cleric and a fighter thief would be more meta. Otherwise it is fine - sorc and bard are good. Cavalier might be better than just a Paladin and pure fighter beats barb, but you can still play barb fairly well.
>>3480733Idk barb rage is op. Useless for the most part in iwd2 though.
>>Horc Barbarianis this EE thing?
>>3480742Iwd 2 is 3.5e
>>3480713>This a good party?two people in top lane, nobody in bottom, you are fucked http://viewsync.net/watch?v=EAHlOMu7vNQ&t=0&v=RCiOTsIehkw&t=0&v=xRJOUCUlt6k&t=0&mode=solo
>>3480790?What is this?
>>3480713That party is alright. IWD is pretty sketchy with only one divine caster but that's just my own preference. Single class thief also kind of sucks, but that party will be able to get through the game.Keep the bard, being able to spam identify is really nice in IWD and their anti-fear song is very useful. Being able to cast arcane spells as well is just gravy.
>>3480733>fighter clericWatch out, fighter cleric will be bound by the cleric weapon limitations.>fighter thiefSeems like a great idea but fiddly in practice as the game makes you manually take off armour when you want to do any thieving.
>>3480912Fighter/thief only has to fiddle if they're wearing heavy armour. If you wear light armour like a thief normally uses then they're pretty much just a regular thief with better THAC0 and attacks per round
>>3480713I had a recipe stuck with me from old 90s-2000s gaming magazines1 arcane spellcaster1 divine spellcaster1 with thief/rogue abilities3 fighter classes of anykind, preferably of different classesI think your party is okay anon
>>3480713>this a good partyI don't know, but why the fuck would you play a party-based combat RPG... on a fucking computer?Games like this were a fucking joke back in the day because only total social shut-ins who had no friends to tabletop with would buy them. Like nigger you can't get four dudes together and throw some dice around?
>>3480713I never make it passed character creation. Spend an hour then fall asleep
>>3480943just curious, was it a german magazine? i read that advice, too.
>>3480943This is how I always did a party of six back in the day, too.
>>3481198nah, but I guess word spread around, world was very small back in the day, with many magazine writers talking with one another, sometimes blatantly plagiarizing stuff by just translating. The amount of stuff you could get away with back then was insane. Today people only catch boomer professors since academia is more anal about this, but man old ass magazines are plagiarism galore.>>3481308And I think games were designed as such, for example they basically forced you to have a thief by placing traps and locked chests, it became very frustrating to progress without it. This changed staring from mid 2000s or even with early 2000s when NWN only allowed 1 or 2(at some situations) companions. Then most games played around with 3-4 companion instead of the usual 6. Kotor, Dragon Age Origins. Some kickstarter era games went back to the magical 6 number however, Pillars being the most famous example, Latest example is the Pathfinder Wrath, with its party of 6.
>>3480943this is basic party composition 101 from the 80s, though 2 arcanes is better.
>>3480943OP here. This was basically my party comp in BG1, with a few deviations >Me, Ajantis, and Kivan on the front line>Branwen as the cleric/backup melee fighter>Imoen as the triple duty mage/archer/trap-disarmer>Coran as the main archer and lockpicker
After growing up doing the classic six man comp, lately I’ve enjoyed doing variations of the stereotypical four man fighter/cleric/thief/mage. I tend to do this nowadays even in games with a six man limit. Fun to do paladin MC, cleric, bard (dex skill monkey moonlighting as thief), mage. Depending on the ruleset, I’ll either have the paladin and bard as frontliners, with a squishy cleric and mage in back line, or paladin and tanky cleric in the front, with the bard with a bow as a sniper.
>>3480731>>3480744Why are you recommending IWD2 EE in a thread about IWD1?
>>3481488are you literally me?
>>3480948>get four dudes together and throw some dice around?sounds gay as fuckBG2 is consistently ranked as one of the best games ever maderpgs are rpgs, it doesn't magically become more pathetic to play them just because you're playing icewind dale instead of final fantasy

For a first playthrough 3 frontliners are recommended just to have enough meat to eat lucky hits at low levels. It also benefits to keep your class builds simple. Whilst ranged builds are underrated especially early on as a good archer can down or consistently injure an enemy or interrupt spell casters. After that it's players choice. IMO IWD sells itself as a 6 character whatever party adventure when in reality it's best done on a first playthrough with 4 defined role characters and 2 jack-of-trades or supporters. Considering what you encounter early on you can really hamstring the party without divine or arcane in your party.A typical 6 person first playthrough starter party would be:Heavy Tank - Ideally divine (Paladin)Bruiser / Heavy Hitter melee - Typically FighterTanky Divine Melee - Clerics a good choice (Buff and Melee Support)Dedicated Ranged w/Trap Finding abilitiesArcane blaster/Control (Buff and Ranged Support)<Self Insert> After that op try a 5 person run through and begin playing with dual and multi classes.
>>3483049I personally like to have one ultra hard tank and funnel enemies into tunnels, did this in IWD2 with EE installedhad a duegar fighter pumped to hell with buffs and fed him all of the big gearhe could blend up rooms with his axe too, like an angry hasted metal hedgehog I had a paladin but he just wasnt as thicc in AC as my fighter so eventually he became an offtank that was good for smiting bosses and that demon/devil side missionThere was a encounter that was really tough however, big mob of high level dudes and some big casters in the back with no preparation, took some attempts to get past that one
>>3480713>Teaming up with non-human mongrelsWhat is wrong with you?
>>3483784>human fighter>human cleric>human thief>human mageYup, it's adventuring time
